Jamal Murray says he will play the 1 position. link inside

No hidden agenda here.. Just a topic for discussion. I like a 3 guard line up .. Looking forward to seeing it in action.. They can all 3 play the 1 ..

I think it's a great problem to have, but the one thing I see is that Ulis can't play any other position besides PG. While I get the position-less discussion, at least the other two are tall enough to play off the ball.

Kids say a lot of things until they get on campus, practice with the team and talk with the coach. I'm sure Cal will get them to buy into whatever he sees as the best fit.

Labissiere will be used like Anthony Davis, not Karl-Anthony Towns.

With the guards we have, it makes no sense to post Labissiere up every possession.

We will see him post up at times, but like Davis, he won't need to be fed the ball in the post to get his points.
The guards are exactly why Labissiere should play mainly on the low block. Labissiere has the skills to be used in a variety of ways, but basketball is a team sport. This team will be much different from the Davis Teague team which had 1 classic point guard, 1 classic wing guard, and 2 legitimate forwards. This team has 3 of the top ball skill guards in college basketball. Calipari is famous for clearing out the floor for guards like Murray and Briscoe who can put the ball on the floor and finish against anyone. It doesn't matter how we think they should play. I am happy to just wait and see the style Calipari decides to use.

Ulis and Murray should start at 1 and 2 with Briscoe coming off the bench as their backup. Milder or Matthews at the starting 3. That's what I'd do.

Why would you want Labissiere on the low block if you want to open up the lane for your guards to penetrate?

Put him off the block, opposite ball side. That way when your guard with the ball penetrates and gets by his man, Skal's man has to choose whether to stay with our stud big man or help. If he helps, you've got an angle for the lob or to hit Skal for the jumper or drive himself.

That's the DDMO. It should work to perfection with Briscoe and Murray.

I don't want him posting up ball side very much, that clogs the paint and negates driving lanes. Also, he is like Davis in that he is as good or better facing up as he is posting up. He'll post up, but not near as much as KAT or Randle or Cousins.

You'll see that combo a lot, but Cal will want Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray on the floor together as much as possible. You want your best five out there. I'd say Matthews or Mulder will play 10-15mpg or split that time.

With foul trouble, we'll probably see Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, and Matthews (or Mulder) together in a four guard lineup.

I think a lot depends on how Matthews and/or Mulder play. With Cal wanting to play 6-7 guys, it could be that one emerges as the 7th man while the other gets relegated to spot duty. If neither one emerges, then Cal plays 8 and they both see somewhere between 7-10mpg.

Ulis is a proven commodity, Briscoe and Murray are two of the top 10 guards out of HS. Based on Cal's track record, they will get the start.
