I agree but I think all the hand wringing is due to Cal screwing the pooch the last 7 years he was here. His non coaching was devastating to our program and with Pope having to start from scratch no one knew where we would go. We are all desperate to get back to a final four.
I think we are certain to go dowhhill on offense and defense regardless. Pope missed on way too many top targets for us not to. We lost 5 of our top 6 players and have replaced them with 3 freshmen, a kid from Tulane and a bad shooting/defending pg from Pitt.
I always knew all the UK fans claiming this year would be our least talented team under Pope were FOS.
It’s funny/odd that during the season KSR and other media said they’d heard behind the scenes that there were top players wanting to come here because of how great the offense was. Then portal season gets here and we basically have to kidnap players to make them come here. No top players will come. Certainly no “superstars.” Pope should have kept his mouth shut on that comment.
We clearly have all the playing time available you’d want, a system players want to play in and supposedly all the money needed to get them. So what’s the issue? Doubt it’s negative recruiting. Our misses have been too wide spread for that. I think it’s either 1.) we actually don’t have anywhere near the money certain people claim or 2.) someone is actively screwing things up on the nil side. Barnhart would be a likely candidate. He could screw up a two car funeral.

Seems like a project that could be pretty solid in his second season. Either way I hope he improves his game and does well here. Lets see what he does after a few games before totally dismissing him

Why is THIS year the anomaly and not last? I have no clue, but the point is neither do you. His 2pt% is trash as is his finish rate. All that would lead one to believe he’s not a great shooter. The HOPE is its equal parts selection and lack of offense that caused the dip.
He’s THIRD team. In a horrible ACC. Let’s not pretend that’s anything special. I think people wanted a sure bet. Know we NEED a dude to be national championship relevant. This guys isn’t it. Not close. Hopefully he can improve and be a part of the equation.

When you want to run a 5 out offense, you really need your guards to be dangerous shooters. Putting this guy at the 1, makes us easier to defend. You can leave him open and get away with it.

No, what got me going was you making really negative assumptions about what Pope is saying and doing while recruiting these players.
You accused him of penny pinching and you accused him of trying to get recruits by just selling them on UK's tradition.
You have zero proof that those things are true. You have no idea what Pope is offering, or saying.

Here’s the flip side…you just want to pretend Pope is God and these guys are great. When, in fact, our roster as it currently stands is worse than last years roster. Which was supposed to be the worst roster Pope will have. There’s a way to go, but there’s also a pattern that’s concerning.
Here’s the part that torques me. The dude can obviously coach and scheme. Go get some damned elite level talent and let’s do some ACTUAL winning. Stop with the pretty girl that needs to lose 20lbs talent.

I like his overall game, I just hope his shooting improves. It’s funny how rating services are. On3 has him not rated at all that I can find 92 overall and 24/7 has him 20th in the entire portal. Hopefully he turns out to be more of the stud rating! Go Cats.

His actual game is very smooth. I like that he can drive by a man on his own. His form and FT % show that he has potential to be a great shooter.

Here’s my issue. If this guy is our starting pg then our starting backcourt will have shot 27% and 35% from 3 this year. In a system where you have to hit 3’s to win, that’s not remotely going to cut it. Even having the shooters we had this year we still had plenty of games where it wasn’t good enough. If we had Brea and Reeves on the roster then Lowe at PG could work but we don’t. We don’t have anyone remotely close to them.
The reception to Lowe wouldn’t be near as bad if we had a couple high end impact guys already coming in but we don’t. We aren’t going to either considering most of the top guys are either gone or we aren’t recruiting them.
I just don’t see how some of y’all can be fine with move and act like it’s a good addition given who all we lose, what we have returning and who all we’ve missed on in the portal. Not mention I thought it was universally accepted that we didn’t have enough talent this past season? Now we are looking at roster that’s likely to have even less talent and we have posters acting like it’ll be fine and telling people to “enjoy the ride”. That just doesn’t make sense to me.

I mean the ACC wasn't a gauntlet, half the teams were below .500 and now he has to play in the SEC. I am just putting hope in Pope and hoping I'm wrong, but these feels a little like a Wheels2.0.
