Jaland Lowe to uk

I hope this guy and Pope prove me wrong but this is the only player that UK was reported to have contacted that I hoped we wouldn't get. I hope he isn't a starter because I can't see him as anything but a downgrade from Butler. If Lowe and Garrison are starters next year I see UK going downhill on offense and defense. I wish my feelings were different. I don't think the lack of interest in UK from so many players is because of Pope though I really can't say what it is...

I've seen him listed At 6'5"

Either way, they will be taller than average guards even if they were just 6'3. They're going to be playing a lot of opposing guards who are short and less lengthy.. so im happy either way. That's solid length to start with and it will help on defense.

Do the people wanting Lee over this kid watch film? Lowe is the better player who will not be hindered by SEC defenses. What's not to like about him?
Who cares if he struggled from 3 this year. His shot looks good. He was 35% from 3 as a freshman and shoots nearly 90% from the line.

Acaden Lewis and Koby Brea were pretty big wins, were they not? We beat out UCONN for Lewis if I’m not mistaken.
Hey Ron remember last year when we missed out on the guard from st Mary's and he chose uconn over us and the same Nellie's that were biatchin then are the same ones that are biatchin now that st Mary's guard never saw the floor at uconn this year nevermind the Nellie's and trolls welcome to kentucky jaland

A big thank you for this info.
No problem. There are stats and then there are reasons behind them. I posted everything that needed to be posted about him in one post. He played very well against good teams, not just ACC teams. I will take other coaches and scouts opinions of him over arm chair posters wanting to be scouts but only look at the averages as the see all be all, not dig into them and try to understand why they are. A lot of want to be basketballs who are only interested in the players THEY think will make UK great. If it is not someone they want (and do not have a clue other than reading stats and never watch the player play), they are going to do what they do best, be a closed minded, uninformed want to be expert. I do not know it all, but what I do is peel back the layers of a players info and be open minded. I do know 100% without a doubt, surrounded by better players in aa structured offense, this kid will prove just how good he is. he will NOT have to jack up shots at the end of the shot clock, go one on 3 trying to make plays because no one else will or can. He will not have to play out of control and force things. ALL of that will be less of a factor simply by being on a more talented team in a structured offense, not a ISO one on one street ball system.

Lowe has been mentioned as a great prospect since the end of his freshman season, this is a very good add.
I think there could be truth to the rumors barnhart and nil hurting recruiting, but gotta wonder if our fans who constantly bash our players is a contributing factor to guys going elsewhere too. What player would want to come here after seeing our fans bash a high level player like Lowe?

Kentucky fans: “We need to get highly ranked portal players”

Lands top 20 player, the highest portal commitment UK has ever had

Also Kentucky fans: “nO, nOt tHaT OnE”

Wait....what the heck was Oscar rated LOL.

Or well I guess he wasn't a "portal" guy but just a normal transfer.

This kid will excel here and go to another level in Popes system just like Butler and especially Otega did. He's just the kind of point gaurd needed to compete in the SEC. And like Oweh he will end up a fan favorite. Mark it down.

Player comparison:

...................... P, R, A, TO, A:TO, 2P%, 3P%, FT%, S, B

Guard 1 - 16.2, 4.7, 1.7, 1.5, about 1:1, 49.2, 35.5, 77.6, 1.5, 0.5

Guard 2 - 16.8, 4.2, 4.3, 2.2, about 2:1, 38.1, 26.6, 87.7, 1.3, 0.1

FG %, FT % and assists are the biggest differences.

I'll take both.....Oweh & Lowe....pretty good backcourt.

So far he would be our 2nd highest rated transfer portal player from 2024 or 2025 according to 247 if I’m reading correctly

I didn’t think of Pope as PR guy, but the timing of getting Lowe , it is by design to keep us in the conversation , on a final four weekend where Kentucky is not part of it.

Lowe is going to be okay on offense if he has 3 other guys around him that can shoot the 3 . He is lefty , like Wagner but plays better of two feet. Not sure about on ball defense, but he is good jumping in between lanes and getting deflections. Two years of eligibility so that’s another plus.

Welcome to BBN!

He was a 3rd team ACC performer lol
How much did we dog the ACC for being terrible this year? 3rd team in one of the worst conferences doesn't scream PG1 for a Blue Blood that's trying to make Final Fours and win the SEC?

Look, I'm not saying he's not a good player. I like him as a guard in rotation. Is he an obvious upgrade over Butler and the PG1 on a title contender? Probably not.

I could be, and hope I am wrong. Feels like we settled after missing out on top targets. Few of his stats or metrics aren't that impressive for this level.

So if I follow your logic Perry is a much better player because he played in a tough sec, correct? And I assume you dogged Butler big time because of his prior conference, correct?

Just cuz the conference wasn’t good doesn’t mean there wasn’t good players.

Yep, the 8th guy is the same as the starter and best player, sure. I think you know the difference.

Butler had led his team to a title game. Kid was a proven winner and maybe the best defender at his position.

I'm not dogging anyone. Just a big question mark.

You do lean pessimistic so no change there

3rd all ACC is pretty good. I don't see how getting an award is a bad thing. And he's only a soph.

Khaman Maluach was ACC honorable mention and everyone here would take him in a second

True. Be honest though, are you coping a little or genuinely psyched?

I'm not even saying he won't be great. I don't know. There are some guys we KNOW are though, and we whiffed on them.

I hope he makes me look bad. I'll happily be wrong.

I lean realistic. I try not to be too negative or positive. Not good to be doom and gloom or a sunshine pumper. I like the kid as a player, just not sure he's a title team PG. Should always be our goal imo.

Mainly I just have high standards for our roster and goals. I want us to be elite, not just good.

I like the pickup if Pope can fix Butlers shot then why can’t he fix his shot?? Dude is considered a dynamic player maker and he’s an excellent FT shooter. I think 2/1 asst to ratio and 2 steals a game.

The only player I’m not excited about possibly adding is Mgbako.

I will say I like the add. I'd just feel better with a truly elite PG1 as well. Will be hard to bring another in now.

I feel the same about Mgbako also. He's a Cal wing. Super athlete, not skilled. Can't understand his system fit. If he's a rotation forward off the bench to give you size, rebounding, and athleticism I like it. Doubt he'd come for that though.

Yeah if he’s a bench piece then I’ll be fine with that but like you said doubt he’s willing to be that.

He shot pretty poor the prior year as well. I guess he onlu has one way to go and that's up in shooting percentages.

I'll trust Pope here though. He knows way more than we do.
Butler shot 29% from 3 as a freshman and shot 30.2% the year before he came here. He wasn’t known to be a great shooter. He shot 39% for us because the offense gave him open opportunities. His role is to facilitate and set up the offense for others, he’s not the primary three point threat.

Some of yall are a joke.
The only joke is our portal recruiting.
They weren't pumped about Butler either.
Even trying to compare this kid and Butler is laughable. Butler was a DPOY and title game experience. This kid isn’t even a good defender and hasn’t played on even a decent college team.
And Pitts beat writer said if you surround him with shooters and a better team he will thrive.
Look at who we have coming back? We have no shooters. As of now this is a worse roster than the one that just got beat in the S16 and lost 10+ games.
You don’t this is a piece of the equation? You forget about Jasper, Lewis, Oweh?
Two potentially good, not great, freshmen who’ve never played a game in college and a guy who can’t be depended to hit an outside shot. We desperately needed a big time shooter or major offensive threat and yet again it looks like we get neither. Looking at our outside shooting alone, we’re in trouble. His teams have to hit 3’s to win and what we have isn’t remotely good enough for that. We are going to be left praying that two fringe 5 star freshmen have huge years for us just to finish in the top half of the SEC and that’s not a position you want to be in.
