Jaland Lowe to uk

And by "Talent" you mean guys ranked higher in portal rankings/recruiting?

If so please enlighten me on how many teams have guys that were top ten in those portal rankings.
And if you wanted top 10 high school talent then you should have wanted to keep Cal and have that season.

I'm meaning just overall........with everything.

I don't care how Pope does it just like I didn't care how Cal did it.................but we need to get better IMO.

Why do people keep saying this

He was never a 40% three point shooter lol.

It was in this thread…

The last 19 games of his freshmen year, his percentage was 40%. Improvement similar to Chandler at the end of the season.

So, hopefully his adjusting to the college enabled the improvement…better movement without the ball, adjusting to the speed of the game, etc.

I think some are seeing that and saying 40% as a freshmen. Others, when seeing his poor 3pt % in his sophomore year are blowing up saying he cannot shoot.

Curious thing is…which is more realistic…a 90% FT shooter can’t shoot, or playing on a crap team made him either have to do too much or at least Made him THINK he needed to do too much thus causing bad shot selection and lowering his shooting percentages.

It could obviously be that he isn’t a great shooter, but because of his FT shooting, I lean toward giving him the benefit of the doubt and giving him a chance to prove it.

Not sure where they are grabbing that number but he did shoot 41% from 3 in conference during his freshman year.

Yeah I think that's exactly what they were referring to.

Not sure we want to throw out half a season of data to make a point tho lol

I think the more reasonable thing to say is.............he's a 30% shooter on his career and with a lower shot volume he can probably up that to 35-36% .......league avg. Which would be fine.

I trust Pope knows what he is doing. I hope this kid excels. I’d really just like to see Pope win a big time recruiting battle for someone.

RSCI Top 100: 97 (2023)

Guy had a 29% usage rate on a 17-15 Pittsburgh team. He had the ball in his hands a lot at end of shot clock situations. He won't be as relied upon in those situations with the guys we'll have around him. He assisted on almost 1/3 of the baskets made when he was on the court. 4th in the ACC in SPG and total steals.

With better players and less reliance Jaland Lowe should have a very good season. On top of that he's faced 50 ACC/SEC/Big10/Big12 teams in 64 college games.

710 points, 206 assists, 117 turnovers, 176 rebounds, and 67 steals

Averages

14.2 pts, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.34 turnovers, and 1.34 steals

Shooting(obviously cant all be blamed for end of clock or not being on a good offensive team)
38.5% FG(little over 600 attempts)
42.5% 2pt(414 attempts)
30% 3pt
87% FT

I mean at the end of the day, people just want players here that can compete on the big stage and become title contending team.

Some think these players can do that, others do not.

It is what it is.

We got Perry he should start next year
Please tell me you are joking ? Are you saying Perry is a better PG / player than Lowe ? If so, that explains a lot of some of the fans shitting on guys who can actually play. Lowe is a very good PG who will NOT be expected to do everything here. He will have SPACING and shooters around him, something that makes a good PG great. He had NONE of that at PITT. Terrible offensive structure and terrible players around him.

I’m really curious to hear Pope break this guy down. I know he uses some deep analytics when going after these portal guys.

I remember last year, we were all questioning why he wanted Butler considering Butler’s shooting percentage and Pope started talking about his spot up 3 percentage being really good.

I want to hear him talk about Lowe, to get an idea of how he fits and what Pope expects of him.

At first glance, he looks like more of a passer and scorer than Butler. I haven’t watched him play, just looking at his raw stats.

Cannot wait to hear Pope break him down and then we will have idea what to expect.

I like that we could potentially have him for two years.

So far, two guys who should be here multiple years. This is good roster construction, not for just one season but two or three seasons down the road.

Hope our talent evaluators see a decent progression here.

ACC was awful and he shoots 3's worse than Branden Garrison.

He was either a brick later or just likes to chuck it off balance from anywhere.

Decent steal numbers but 3 TOs a game means that his shot selection isn't the only thing that needs work.

He had a couple productive seniors and a junior on his squad but it appears the ball was in his hands most of the time.

Here's what U of L coach and KING OF THE PORTAL Pat Kelsey had to say about him.

"No. 15 (Lowe) is a dynamic guard. He puts fouls on you. He's as fast and quick twitch as any guard we're going to play against. He's got this uncanny knack when he gets to the rim," Kelsey said.

"He's got this ability, like, at the last second, to go whoop and fire that thing for threes. We call it matrix, right? So, you've seen the movie The Matrix, you know, like when the bullets are flying over the guy's head, and they watch it. Well, [Lowe] throws these passes that, if you ball watch, he's going to find that dude. They got too many open looks off of that. We actually got lucky a couple times that they missed some of those open looks. But we knew it was going to come to a one on one challenge, because [Lowe is] a terrific one-on-one player. He wants to go left, and you try everything in your power to keep him from going left, and he gets to his left somehow, some way."

I like this pick up, he can score, rebound well for a guard. Obviously needs to clean up his shot selection. Interesting that he had 4 games of 10 or more assists and 9 games of 3 or more steals.

37% shooter and 26% from 3 n the mid major awful acc. Will be interesting to see the spin Job from our fanbase on this.
And he's a solid downgrade from Lamont Butler to boot.....not the promises all kept saying

1. Players are going to want to play in Pope's system
2. Paying Pope 5M allows UK to fill up NIL coffers

None of it looks like an upgrade and getting back to being top dog in bball.....

Very concerned. We should be attracting the top 5 portal guys not "hopefuls." Remember these players have to exceed the gets at other SEC programs. Do you think he fits that description? Hopefully, this wasn't an out of fear recruit based upon the misses so far. I don't see any superstars yet but there is still time.

So, our starting PG can’t shoot. And our starting SG can’t shoot. I don’t think Jasper is known as a knock down shooter either. If Garrison is your starting 5, then four of our starting five can’t shoot and we’re back to Cal’s brick laying offense.

The 40.3% from 3 as a freshman was games he was the starter - 19 games 25/62. In the 14 games as a reserve, 23% 6/26. It is really eassy to find, unless you just want to take the worst of every situation. of course most are not talking about the really great assist #s and even rebounds for a PG. Nah, that would be saying something positive about a player they have never watched play and only look at stats. Also averaged nearly 2 steals per game (1.8). he is very quick and can attack and distribute (you know a PG's job). He played on a very bad defensive Pitt team that under performed all year. They had no structured offense and everyone just kind of winged it.

Notable games showing he is more than capable :
LSU - 22/8/6 had 3 steals, 4/7 from 3
Wisconsin - 15/5/5
Ohio State - 28/4/4
Miss. State - 19/4/3 / 2 steals. Was 4/9 on 3s.
Virginia Tech - 19/5/2 FOUR steals
Sam Houston - 19/3/11 was 3/9 from 3
Cal - 27/4/8
Louisville - 24/2/6
Louisville #2 - 16/10/5 with 3 steals
FSU - 22/2/5 with 3 steals
UNC - 18/6/7 with 3 steals, 3/6 from 3.
@ Duke - 8/5/4 with 3 steals, 2/4 from 3. Pitt only scored 47 points but he had a solid all around game.

He also hit the game winner his freshman year to beat Duke, @ Duke he had 17 points / 6 assist / 2 steals / 2/5 from 3 in a 80-75 upset AT Duke.
After becoming a starter (his 15th game) from 3, he had games of :
2/3, 1/2, 1/2, 2/5, 2/5, 1/2, 2/3, 2/5, 2/5, 2/4, 1/3, 1/3, 1/2, 1/1.
That tells me that he CAN be a above average 3 point shooter, just better shot selection. It clearly shows when he doesn't have to play hero ball and plays within the offense (which he will at UK), he is a very solid shooter / scorer.
A big thank you for this info.

Welcome to UK. The one thing we missed this past season was a playmaker so that is encouraging to hear . This team is looking like we will have multiple playmakers .

Also him shooting 89% from the line is encouraging . His other shooting numbers could go up with a change of scenery and on a better team . Reading that Pittsburgh and they seemed to be fed up with not just Lowe but the entire team.

Jaland Lowe took as many FT attempts per game as Lendeborg. His 5.4 average was higher than Oweh's 5.3 and Willliams' 5.1

He is barely behind Broome and Flagg per game in that category. The guy gets fouled and most importantly, he makes them.
