Jackson Smith...??

Kellan had the third most field goals for a season in state history last season, he led the state. He has 15 this year and leads the state. if they continue to advance in the playoffs he can expect to break his own record. He already has the most in Trinity school history, has the Trinity record most FG's in a game with 5, and Holds the Trinity record for longest FG at 54 yards, last year against Cincinnati St. Xavier. Kellan's FG stats last season were better than Smiths.
Smith's FG stats from high school are a bit misleading because Boyle doesn't kick a lot of field goals. Not saying he's a better kicker than Kellan, but his FG total in high schools was never going to be very high playing for Boyle.

What game winner did he miss against Florida? Maybe it was another team?
It was at home 3 years ago against UF. Terry had gotten hurt and the transfer was playing qb that night. UF qb got hurt and Trask replaced him and brought them back. Poore missed the late FG that would have won or at least tied the game. We led all night till right at the end

My recollection was that he was recruited to be a punter, but I'm not 100% certain of that.
With Schwartz coming on board and no other kickers, unless Poore uses his Covid year, I would think they are leaning towards Smith being a kicker. Whether he does FG's or Kickoffs or both we will see.

Well once you said he was open to a PWO I put in a call . Surprised it happened that quickly though.
I say he'd be open to a PWO, he's hoping for a scholarship somehwere, but it would have to be the right fit. Purdue is in heavy with him. He's been up there several times.

He was our FG kicker until he missed a few kicks including the game winner against UF. He had a big leg but Ruffalo replaced him and they never looked back
It wasn't that missed that cost him his job. He did miss the 35 yarder against UF that would have put us up with a minute to go. He then went 1-3 the following week against Mississippi State with one of the misses from 26 yards. That's what cost him his job.

He was a true freshman thrown into the fire that season and he developed the yips. He looked intimidated by it all. I would hope he's well beyond the point of intimidation these days.

That FG was what started it. The pressure that night was too much and the next week finished him off. I think he has a better leg than Ruffalo and thought he could have been good. He might come in and do great now

That's what threw me off. I was looking at final scores. We lost by 8. Florida went wild when Trask came into the game and scored 19 unanswered in the 4th quarter.

They scored 12 and took the lead. Then Poore missed the FG with a couple min left that would have put uk up 2. They got the ball and was trying to run the clock out and broke a 76 yd run to finish the game.

Congratulations!!! Hope he's wearing the B/W next year. My BIL is a Trinity grad along with a longtime friend who's a huge BBN fan and post here some.
I was at Trinity’s game last Friday and he was booming them. And the PAT’s have plenty of height unlike Ruffalo’s.

Trinity's placekicker is my nephew.
In his playoff game last friday, All kickoffs were touchbacks or out of the end zone, made all his extra points and a 41 yard FG.

Trinity's season hasn't been great. Fans and families aren't happy with the new coach who took over for Beatty. he's mismanaged some games. Kellan has great accuracy, but his protection has been bad this year, he's had a few blocked. He's got range to 60+ yards. He had an individual camp at UK because he couldn't make the main camp. They put him through all the drills they put the campers through and he outperformed all of them. Kicked a 60 yarder (granted it was inside the Nutter Fieldhouse) but he impressed them, but unfortunately now he can't get them to respond to him about attending a game, (even though they told him to take his pick) I'm kinda pissed about that. He has a lot of family hoping he could wear the blue and white, but more than likely he winds up somewhere else. Wherever he goes they're getting a gem. Super proud of the young man. He has a real good and disciplined head on his shoulders as well. Puts in overtime in the weight room and on the practice field, has very good grades, and works a job part time too.
Sure would like to get Kellan in UK blue. Clutch kicker already. Made some game winners and comes from the top program in the state. 27 state titles. He knows what it takes and he sure is full of energy

UK should have all sorts of ability. The #1 Kicker/Punter Combo in America is an hour south in Corbin with Jacob Baker. Jackson Smith was a top 5-10 kicker last year, and the kid from Trinity is good. I know you can't go throwing around scholarships to specialists all willy nilly but there are plenty of good options out there.

For how long? Surely not that long.
I've thought about that too. You obviously want as many reps so the snap, hold, and kicks become routine. Given that the specialists practice away from the rest of the team for the most part, there's the built-in familiarity there. That's what makes this season's situation so frustrating; it looks anything but routine and is a hot mess.

Some teams use a backup QB as the holder (maybe 3rd or 4th string). That way your primary backup QB doesn't miss snaps. We've done so in the past sometimes. QBs are used to handling the ball a lot anyway, so there's a comfort level there in receiving the snap and holding. It also makes the opponent consider the possibility of a fake with the QB as a holder.

I get all this, but can any of them SNAP THE BALL?

Ruffalo badly hooked one last game when he weirdly started his approach way early.

The whole debacle started vs Florida with a bad snap that is now clearly a mental thing that he is yet to overcome. Thanks to horrible snaps and kicks, even pats are an edge of your seat adventure. It's ridiculous
You don't think about a long snapper until Mizzou happens

Ruffolo's problem is obviously mental, but he has had a month to get it fixed. Apparently he can't. That cost us the Ole MS game and almost cost us the MO game too. If Stoops gives up on Ruffolo, which is overdue, Chance Poore should get the first opportunity. Poore already handles kickoffs. He has a strong leg, and he is a senior. Fans may not like him, but fans know nothing about him. Poore stuck around and stayed loyal.

Joker gave up on Joe Mansour. Then Stoops came in and gave him a chance. Mansour had a good senior season for Stoops.

Either way, Smith will become the FG kicker in 2023. If Poore can't handle it, Smith could get promoted sooner.
Its not just menal Rembrandt, IMO its technical too. Even since he got here I've been saying something doesnt look right. Started noticing it on the extra points where he was always late and low getting them off. As I watched him more he starts his approach a lot farther off the ball than others and is a half second later than most getting to the ball which gives the rush that much more time to get penetration.

I think he got by with that for a while even though a lot of his kicks looked like they barely cleared the rush. But this year the timing is so far off form the snap and hold its added to that and got him completely screwed up.

I agree that has led to a loss of confidence to but always felt like he was walking on thin ice the way he approached his kicks and now seeing that small margin error playing out.

Who's the PK if not Smith, who if I remember correctly, was voted #1 in his class...

Guys, do your research. That top video (that says Kohl's kicking) is not the Jackson Smith at UK. No idea who that kid is. Our Jackson can absolutely do it all - place kick, kickoff and punt. All these comments about his high school stats and comparing him to current kids in high school are apples to oranges. He played at Boyle. A prolific offense that rarely kicked field goals. When he did, he made them. Was 8/9 as a senior. Was 8/8 as a sophomore. Kicked the game winner in State Championship game as a junior. Most all his misses were when he was a freshman in HS. Never had a return yard against him in high school as a punter. He is the future at UK and all this negativity with the current mess of special teams shouldn't be associated with him. Very excited to see his future. Hopefully they will get him some reps over the next 4 games. Go Cats!

Also, don't forget he kicked a 51-yard field goal as an 8th grader in state champ game...

Not sure where you got your stats. KHSAA website says Smith was 4/6 on FG as a junior and 7/9 as a senior.
I'm not sure why you think anyone was associating any of the current special teams mess with Smith either. No one here is doing that. In fact I think most of us are excited to see what he's capable of being a legacy recruit and all. Smith hasn't played a down of college football yet, so how anyone can make that association is beyond me. Smith is definitely a good kicker/punter, but he's not going to do all three while here. They will likely hone in on whichever specialty he fits best. My point was that with Wilson Berry and Carter Schwartz (who is strictly a punter) coming on board. that my guess is they are leaning towards Smith as a placekicker. Outside of those three next year, unless Poore uses his Covid year, I'm not sure who else we have, which is why I've been pumping up my nephew, who is an elite level kicker as well. There's room for both on the roster. After seeing what happened to Goodfellow, I think it's imperative to have options at each position. UK routinely has someone different doing kickoffs vs. FG's, but there also needs to be competition for the spots.

👍👍video to VM...can he bring his LS with him?
Add a 39 yarder into the wind to tie the state record for most Field Goals in a season. Puts him pretty close to the record for most FG’s in a career. Super proud of the young man. Great game the night before he visits UK. Made all his PAT’s and kicked all his kickoffs out of the end zone.
