Jackson Smith from Boyle County

Andrew Dobbs kicked at LCA, kicked without a tee, was very impressive in all kicking camps and UK didn't recruit him because of the kid at Boyle County. Meanwhile, Andrew sits in a dorm going to school at UK and I have no doubt could be the kicker at UK.
Well, Doctor my eyes

There was some talk that UK was interested in talking to Andrew about a PWO last winter but it fell apart when Boulware arrived. Dobbs is so smart he is on a full ride academic scholarship at UK so he doesn't really need football. His family are big UK fans but the coaching staff treated him pretty disrespectfully about a PWO which is sad because they could use him.

Let me guess, Lou Matsakis was part of his recruitment. There's a reason he's no longer with the team. Carter Schwartz who was in the same class with my Nephew at Trinity (and his holder and good friend) had committed to UK, then decommitted and wound up at UofL. He blamed it on lack of communication from Matsakis after his commitment. My nephew had a great private workout with Coach Matsakis, Kicked a 60 yarder for him, excelled at all the drills, Got tons of praise, then communication dropped. He did get invited at the last minute to the Vandy game in 2022 for an unofficial visit after trying to reach out numerous times for one, but even on the visit, the interaction with Matsakis was limited. Just a bad recruiter all around.

Which is why he should have worked on that during his senior year. My nephew didn’t use a tee his entire senior season at Trinity and lead the state in Field Goals. He did that in preparation for college and his coaches trusted him enough to allow it.
That's the difference between strategic thinking vs short-term. You see it a lot in life, especially in business/finance.

Didn't he go to Miami of Ohio? Don't see his name on a roster or commit list for Miami anywhere.

He's at Miami, OH. He was Graham Nicholson's backup this year and redshirted. Had Graham opted to transfer out for his final year of eligibility, Kellan would be the starter next year. But Nicholson is staying for his final year. Nicholson just won the Lou Groza award for being the nations best kicker and damn near set an NCAA record for most consecutive made Field goals in a season. He missed his 25th which would have tied the mark. We were all a little baffled as to why Nicholson decided to stay. He could likely be kicking for anybody with some decent NIL money to boot. He's got nothing left to prove at Miami and will be hard pressed to better his 2023 season. But who knows where these kids minds are these days. So Kellan will have to be backup another year, but expects more opportunities. He did kick almost the entire second half of their blowout of Delaware State and made all of his XP attempts and all of his Kickoffs were touchbacks. Miami will be loaded for bear next year by MAC standards. They bring back a ton of key players and should be the odds on favorites to win the MAC next year, they open their season at Notre Dame though.

He’s at Miami OH. He is the backup to Graham Nicholson who just won the Lou Groza Award for the best kicker in the country. The job is Kellan’s when Graham leaves. There was a chance Graham would enter the portal for his final year of eligibility, he actually entered his name briefly then decided to come back. They had originally brought Kellan in to compete immediately for kickoff specialist, but funny thing about competition is that Kellan’s presence all of a sudden made Graham start putting his kickoffs in the end zone. So while it’s not ideal Kellan has to be backup another year, they’ve invested a lot into getting Kellan ready at the drop of a hat. And the coaches are really high on him. He was the only kicker they did in home visits with during his recruit. Miami places a big emphasis on special teams. Even their punter had the highest net average in the country and he was the backup going into the season. Kellan did get to kick in the second half of their blowout of Delaware State and made all his XP and put all of his kickoffs in the end zone. He likes it there so far. He was able to redshirt this year. We’ll see what the future holds. He’s down in Orlando for the Cure Bowl today. Look for #38 on the sidelines if you watch.

Great school! Glad to hear he landed at a good school & program. Wishing much success to him going forward
