Its becoming more and more obvious

AD was final 4 MVP and barely put up any scoring numbers in those 2 games. There's never been one player to effect the college game defensively the way AD did. AD isn't the best freshman to play at UK. He's the BEST PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF KENTUCKY BASKETBALL.
No doubt. To bad there is the one and done. AD at UK for four years. He would have broken every stat in the record books including the scoring leader.

I think who was the best freshman, and the best player, ever at UK is very debatable. There are so many areas where you can judge it. AD did not score as much, but I am not sure that anyone could control a game like he did.

I love them both but come on. Anthony Davis was a Stud. He won a title. Mashburn wasn't bad as a sophomore. Neither was Ron Mercer.

I was just about to add that Davis and Mashburn respectfully disagree.

With last night’s 23-point performance, Murray became only the seventh Kentucky Wildcat to score 20 or more points in seven consecutive games, joining Dan Issel, Kevin Grevey, Alex Groza, Cliff Hagan, Cotton Nash and Jodie Meeks on that list. If Murray can do it again at Vanderbilt and Florida, he will match Meeks’ program-best nine consecutive games with at least 20 points.

But it’s not just the Kentucky record books Murray is making a name for himself in this month; he has also been one of the top players in college basketball during his recent tear.

In the month of February, no one in the country has scored more points than Jamal Murray. He has 178 total points for an average of 25.4 points per game.

Murray is also leading the nation in three-point field goals made in February, connecting on over four per game for a total of 30. He is shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 46.9 percent from outside.

Greatest freshman scorer at UK? Probably.

Davis is the greatest freshman basketball player at UK though. Understand that there's more to basketball than scoring.

Jamal Murray has attempted 421 shots in 28 games and has played a total of 974.
Karl Anthony Towns attempted 256 shots in 39 games and played a total of 822 minutes.

I'm just saying. Murray has been great, but it's impossible to just crown him the best because his role has been ideal to get such exposure. For instance, put Karl Towns on this team and take Jamal Murray off, to where the offense was run through KAT and he was the #1 option. He'd be NPOY.

If we really got into advanced stats and looked at PER, PER48 and per FG attempt numbers, Murray wouldn't rank in the top 3.

I'd bet Towns, Davis and Cousins would be ahead of him.

He is absolutely on fire, for sure. He may be eclipsing Wall, and making moves on Cousins. But he simply doesn't have the overall game impact as Anthony Davis.

Let's put it this way: Anthony Davis shot 1-10 in the title game and was CLEARLY the best player on the court and MVP.

Didn't Jodie Meeks average over 20 one season? I guess by your logic a case can be made for Meeks being the greatest Kentucky player to ever don the blue and white. Let it go man. AD is the best freshman and best player in the history of our storied program. IMO there's not even a close 2nd. Murray is awesome. And could be a great NBA player. Could be an All Star, I think he will be. But not one player is ever going to replicate and change the game for us the way AD did. We've never seen anything like it before him. And we never will after him. Remember that team beat every single team they played that season.

The 2 losses. At IU on a last second buzzer beater. Who we beat in NCAAT by 10+ I believe? And we played Vandy 3 times and lost to them once. So the 2 teams we lost to we either beat on a neutral floor by 10 after losing at there arena on a buzzer beater, and won 2 out of 3 against the other. You also got to remember that was a way stronger year in college basketball. Better teams top to bottom. Lots of great teams that year. You could probably find about 7/8 teams from that year that would be far and away the number one team this year. AD won every award possible that year also, Including NPOY who I believe is the only UK player to do so? Then went on TO A GOLD MEDAL, same year. You're beyond clueless man. Murray isn't even going to win NPOY. Maybe not even NFOY. Maybe not even a national title!?!?!

I guess my post did not survive. AD is definitely the best frosh ever at UK...he did it all.

It is hard to consider Murray the best freshman ever when he isn't even the best player on this team. That honor belongs to Ulis.

And before the protest about Ulis being a sophomore comes, let me explain it this way. At least three better UK teams had freshmen as the best player. 2010 with John Wall, and 2012 with AD (whose season accomplishments have never been equaled by a player in any class from freshman to senior). and 2015 (KAT). 2011 could very well be included on this list with Brandon Knight.

I will definitely give Murray credit, but he ranks no higher than 4th on the all-time list. The three easily in front of him were overall number one NBA Draft picks. (Coincidentally, the only three overall number ones in UK history. So, my rankings would go like this...

1. Anthony Davis (no-brainer)
2. John Wall
3. Karl Anthony Towns
4. DeMarcus Cousins
5. Jamal Murray (perhaps even Brandon Knight or Jamal Mashburn)
