It looks like the beginning of some very exciting times for UK football. It may not be this season, but I believe this will be a memorable one. It is obvious with the excitement of the stadium and other facility upgrades, along with superior recruiting and the huge amount of quality talent committed and coming to UK, that those who seriously considered UK and went elsewhere couldn't see what the future holds here.
You don't build a quality football team in 3, 4 or even 5 years. You can if you start with something, but you can't when you start with very little - as Coach Stoops did. We are just now starting to be taken seriously by the players who will be out future. The first two classes to come to UK are heroes to our football program. They came because of a vision and to be a part of building something big - they understood what they had going against them. The recruiting classes of 2016 and 2017 can see some results on the field and more importantly on the practice fields that are opening their eyes wide to the UK's future. That has been no small task and the UK coaching staff and Coach Stoops deserve our admiration and support.
IMO, UK football is progressing as quickly as possible under Coach Stoops. We have seen the improvement on the field, if you haven't noticed it, then you haven't been watching. It takes time to fix a program with experience and depth issues. You can see it is coming. Too many people don't understand it takes redshirting to get a program to where it can compete. Most quality teams are full of 5 and some 4th year seniors. When you look at UK the past two years and even this year, we are short in that department. But it will not remain that way much longer I think a couple of recruits made serious mistakes in their careers buy not joining UK at this point.
I want to give a great big shout out to those players and recruits that have "signed up" to make UK football great again! They are going to be rewarded big in the future. UK football is on the rise and a title wave of excitement and bowls and dare I say it - Championships -are coming!
