It’s a new season. No excuses.

Everyone knows our roster. We’ve proven we can beat good teams with it I mean winning at Missouri is perhaps our 3rd or 4th best win of the year. On the road against a very good Missouri team. We will probably be close to top 10 net going into next week. We are likely a win away from securing a 3 seed if we aren’t already locked in. So here it is.

I’m thinking given the roster, given the growth, what we’ve done on the season there should be no thought of next season. It’s right now. Do we have a title team? Not likely but we have a team that were they to lose the first weekend would be a massive failure. A sweet sixteen? Meh. An elite 8? Yes. That is our mark for success imo. This season. When you have a team that is 3 seed level there is no room for a learning curve. And after all the tournament losing we are at the point where we need to hit expectations this tournament. A solid showing would help us recruit, would get fans excited about next year and most of all wash out the taste of losing in March cal left. This is a massive opportunity in front of us to get things back on track and have the sense once again that something is being built in our program.
If the Cats win a game and then loses to a six seed in the second round, how are you going to react to it? Such a thing is fairly probable. Does that move you into a position of being anti-Pope? You seem very tense and anxious about the postseason, where I would see us as playing with house money given everything that has happened during and before the season.

That’s friggin awful. This attitude is why we’ve sucked the last 6 years

You’re no fan if you’re ok with losing. I’m serious. That’s what kills programs like our low expectations. We could lose to byu or Louisville and you’re ok. I’ll tell you we go in a 3 and don’t make it to sweet sixteen this ridiculously long honeymoon with pope will be over. We need a solid fanbase which means winning. You got the players now. You have the team now. Yeah “win one game and I’m happy”. What has happened to uk bb???
You have some dumb takes, but i am happy to say this isn't even in the top 10.... keep improving!

I thought we could be a sweet 16 team after watching the first few games this season so I'm sticking with that. Even given our injury luck this year our defensive growth the last third of the season has me excited for the possibility of more. I thought we were flat out awesome on defense yesterday. I thought Chandler's D on Grills yesterday was phenomenal. If we can clean up all the unforced errors we will be a very tough out. Gotta hit some layups too.

What is it with moving the goal posts all the time?
the 'if you're satisfied with ....?....you're not a true fan' stuff is horseshit.

Pope said the job is to win...he never said you can't enjoy the moment

Enjoy the ride man...it always ends soon enough for everybody.

Its a throwaway year.. Starting next year its back to normal final 4 or bust.. Pope was an awful hire to you earlier in the year.. Now its final four or bust for you? You just a shitty poster 😂
There’s no such thing as a throw away year. No I don’t think ff is the mark of success it’s an elite 8. Which for this team is very doable. And as of now I still just like the day he was announced and everyone here melted down. Just because people came around doesn’t mean he has a “throw away year”. This is what has irritated me about the pope hiring is the lowering of expectations because of his lack of resume. I don’t look at any of this personally. Pope wasn’t the best resume we could land so it’s natural for a lot of people to be skeptical of his march abilities. You can call me all the names you want it’s not going to change the facts. We have a top 10 roster even without Jaxon. We have guys who would be offended you call this a throw away year. That’s disrespectful to our guys like Carr, brea, Williams, butler, etc. This is perhaps the most balanced roster we’ve had since 2015 and you call them throw away. I mean what kind of a fan does that. I promise you this because I hear pope talk it’s aligned with what I say and my expectations not your super low “throw away” expectations. And heres a shocker. We are a better TEAM without Robinson. That’s forced chandler to grow up and what does chandler do very well? Defend. He makes our team a better defensive team just one more perimeter guy to join butler. But this is a “throw away” year. Did Barney tell you that???

Not anti pope but still a skeptic. You realize his resume is worse than BCG? By all measure he wasn’t qualified going from a place like byu. The only reason people are defensive of pope is because he played for us. That’s no reason to hire someone and that’s basically all he had going at the time. So yeah a second round loss would be a massive wasted opportunity when this guy needs to build a resume on the job. There are plenty of fans like me who need to see something but they are afraid to say something because of the mob. Again winning in March is what’s always mattered at UK. It’s been a good season but if you get into the top 12 and do nothing with it yeah that’s not going to win pope support. Bbn needs to be solidify and totally believe in its program. Every is apprehensive until pope proves he can win in March and mark would tell you that himself.

March always has been and always will be a crapshoot. Perfect example is looking at what the 2014 team did being a bubble team that got hot and went to the national championship game while the overall #1 2004 team lost in the second round. Would love to win all the postseason games but it seems you’ve set yourself up to be dissatisfied. Worrying about Popes resume during the hiring process is irrelevant since he already has been hired and is the coach. I hate to assume intent but it almost sounds like you’re upset that whatever guy you wanted didn’t get hired and you’re throwing something of a tantrum. You can either try to enjoy what’s going on or be miserable. That’s up to the individual

This is, was, and always has been a mulligan year . Pope has done a magnificent job. If we lose the next 2 games it will be disappointing, but it doesn’t change that fact.

We do have a shot to be the champs this year. I predict a FF or Elite 8.

If I recall correctly, it seems the OP has been beating this “no excuses” drum almost since Pope was hired, and especially so since the injuries to Butler, Carr and Robinson. He’s gotten especially adamant about the “no excuses” mantra after those injuries because he knew that those injuries were valid reasons why UK should generally be considered an underdog in many games, and that hurt his narrative. The OP was (and continues to be) very upset at the hiring of Pope and has been negative toward Pope at every opportunity right from the beginning because he wanted a “bigger name;” and he’s getting more frustrated that he can’t attract more converts to the anti-Pope club. I also suspect he views high school recruiting rankings and freshman projected NBA draft positions as his measuring stick for having built a successful roster - due to confusing notoriety with effect on winning - and may be concerned that the freshman one-and-done train has left the station.

Is he a Cal-hanger-on? I’ve only been here since 2024 so I don’t know the whole deal

For the SEC Tourney, really have no idea what to expect. The whole conference has been beating up on each other all season. Hell, even Auburn has lost 2 straight to end the season. Feels like it’s almost as likely to get bounced on Thursday as it is making a run to Saturday, or even Sunday. Total crap shoot.

For the big dance, I expect a win in the first round… and depending on the bracket and matchups, a second round win and trip to the Sweet 16 isn’t necessarily a huge ask.

After that, everything is gravy in my opinion. If upsets break our way, we could be facing another opponent in the Sweet 16 that we would “expect” to beat… or we could be facing a #1 seed… of which 2 or 3 of the #1 seeds are likely to be teams we have already beaten this year (which is crazy!).

If it’s a crap shoot well we are way overdue to make a run. We have a team to do it.

I swear I think it’s that guy Gromcat. “Title or the season was a failure” nonsense. Same ignorant type of posts.

Not a “bigger name” that doesn’t make sense. I wanted a coach with a proven resume. Do any of you remember the initial reaction to popes hire? It took Barney to go on ksr and explain himself. This is a message forum. We should be able to discuss any scenario that is possible. The entire mark pope machine is based on emotion and the appeal as a former player. It’s not based on logic. Pope had done ziltch to make him the guy for the job. A lot of fans are like me I’m not the only one. I want to see pope take the team on a run like an elite 8 then the resume issue will be a non issue. Mark isn’t reading this and he will be the first to say I’m dead on so why this hypersensitivity? He wasn’t the guy for the job. everyone questioned it at the time. Mark knows the expectation thank the almighty because his expectations are higher than a lot of fans. I have some theories like young people just haven’t seen the consistent tradition they have only heard of it.

I’m going to add even worse would have been Scott drew. So there are worse scenarios than pope. Let’s see if he can get the monkey off his back and do the most important thing, win in March. So far he’s off to a good start.

No he hates Cal too. I think its the Memphis fan that hates Cal and UK for taking him away from the little boy table and wants all UK fans to be upset.
Hit me personal all you want I have lifetime ties to UK. The lifeblood of UK basketball are the fans that have high expectations. We don’t discuss “throw away” seasons like we have with our fb program. That’s not what this program is about. We have several and they are the same give cal time fans that treat our bb program like UGA treats it’s bb program. Do you guys even believe we have the all time best program? Do you know what it takes to stay on top? Not “throw away” season attitudes.

Skeptic or wanting to say you were right if Pope does not win?
Your writing indicates someone more interested in being 'right' than the team having success.
