Is Z the real deal or ……

Or me. You don’t explain it because there is no explanation.

Reeves is a practice player. Nothing more.

He’s not really even a practice player since he doesn’t guard. And can’t play the point for the scout team either.

I hope Reeves is not one of our best 5. If he is then we aren't very good.

Reeves will play his way to the bench.

No way he starts over Dillingham, Wagner or Sheppard as the season progresses.

Reeves minutes will dwindle to almost nothing by Feb.

If you think Reeves is a bum then yes
Should I go on?

Z is one player that looks as good in real life as his highlight reels, that people have posted on here. It is quite the luxury to look down that bench and see 3 7 footers and each one of them bring a little something different to the game. I enjoyed last night as much as I enjoy Christmas, what a treat.

After one game with Z, if I were asked to rank our bigs in order of impact, it would be easy (again, one game sample).

1. Z
2. Ugonna
3. Bradshaw

If I were to rank just Ugonna and Bradshaw, I still think Ugonna has proven to be more impactful than Aaron. In fact, I see Bradshaw being more of a project than I thought, by far.

Bradshaw isn't a college big. He would be a lot better on a team who let him play more like a featured offensive player. Not saying he's Jabari Smith, but put him on another team without, literally, 7 players or more who are better than him, and he's fine. He's not a project. He's just a project on this team.

Bradshaw is better off as the reserve 4 than the starting 5 man.

Ivisic and Onyenso need to split minutes at the 5. 25/15 split. Split Mitchell and AB the same way at the 4.

Rotate Wagner, Sheppard, Dillingham, and Reeves at 1-3. Give Edwards a few minutes at the 3.

Oh, and…

GO BUCS!!!!

Once he gets his wind it's going to be hard for Cal to keep him off the floor. He's has to get major PT for us. He's better than Bradshaw after one game. No knock on Bradshaw. He just doesn't have the skillset Big Z does. It's a good problem to have with all three of our big guys.
Bradshaw doesn’t have the strength either. Z is bigger/stronger. Which means he’ll be a better rebounder

Good plan except when Thiero comes back....hopefully Saturday. We need to find a place for him.

Same. I had zero expectations this season for him. I was surprised to see him coming into the game so early.

It was probably the most spectacular first 5 -7 minutes of game action I’ve ever seen from a player here, no exaggeration.
The fact Cal put him in the game says a lot. I thought once he got cleared, Cal would ease him back in. Play him when we were up big for a minute or two. He wasted no time with him yesterday. He knows he has a game changing player.

Yeesh!

@STL_Cat just made @UKBB4Ever look silly for saying that Reeves was a bum.

He absolutely decimated you, UKBB4Ever, just by showing you your own words. Why would you talk so negatively about our guy, Reeves?

Maybe you should sit down for a while and reflect on your silly words from the past before you critique anyone else?

I always felt the '96 team was so good defensively because they knew they were going to get 15 to 20 minutes of rest during the game. This team needs to commit to defense now that they know that someone capable is sitting on the bench. All of these guys come from a background where they cannot be expendable. That mindset needs to go.

Dude eviscerated himself. The receipts aren’t hard to find.

No question in my mind he’s a troll. I’m treating him like deserves to be treated.

But if you do the math….even that isn’t going to work out minute wise

PG - Wagner 25 Reed 15
SG - Reeves 15 - Reed 10 - Dilly 15
Sf - Reeves 10 - Dilly 10 - Edwards- 15 - Thiero 5
PF - Mitchell 25 - Ivisic 15
C - Bradshaw 20 - Ugo 20

And even that distribution gives Thiero 5 snd Ivisic 15..which isn’t enough

- It’s obvious Edwards doesn’t belong in court…Cal ain’t going to pull him…which screws Thiero who gives this team what we need most …defense and toughness
- secondly …..if Ivisic isn’t Jeremy Lin mirage….you got to play him more then Bradshaw and Ugo…he brings their size and same level athleticism…but eons more skill snd iq
Finally…Ugo Bradshaw inside….i see Ugo as more impactful. Much better rim protection and better on glad ( I thought Bradshaw would be better)
I think Edwards minutes are gonna come to a halt, it’s obvious at this point that Z is the most skilled Big, maybe he has a couple bad games and you give UGO or Bradshaw more run. At this point we just need to play our best guys the most, only foul trouble or breathers for the rest.

With all back platoon them but DARN IT Cal,

Don't back off the horses this time just because one piece goes down!

Well, Cal historically gives 7 players meaningful minutes....sometimes 8 and at least once 6. Let's say he gets it down to 8 with more than 5 minutes. What does everyone think that will look like towards the end of SEC play? Thiero back soon in this scenario.

Will Cal let Edwards slide down to about 5 minutes?
Can Ugo replace Bradshaw as the 8th man? Can Thiero replace one of those two to be in the top 8?

I don't see Cal letting both Edwards and Bradshaw slide down the minutes played too much. Maybe one. If Thiero's healthy I don't see how we can keep him down. He has what we need right now IMO.

So, Mitchell, Reeves, Shep, Wagner, Big Z, Rob, Bradshaw, and Thiero would be my best guess. Edwards will finally play himself out and Ugo will be the odd man out. Not what I would do, but that's what I think will be our rotation in another month or so.

I'll say this, he plays much more mature and physical than Bradshaw (and Onyenso, at times).

He was in better position for numerous rebounds that Bradshaw and Onyenso haven't been there for.

There's a scheme issue though because every UK big man gets sealed off on drives.
Bradshaw was getting hooked and held many possessions to seal him from the lane. Refs didn't call crap on UGA including elbows and lots of shoving. The refs have no desire to clean UK games up and give two craps about player safety. They are going to get someone hurt if this trend continues.

Could platoon again, just don't call it that. We have the horses to do it. (Made too big of a deal of it the last go-round...)

Yeah the platoon worked great last time for 38 games. Then..... I also think with this team getting a set amount of minutes would lead to more defensive issues. If they're not giving max effort now on that side of the court it may get worse.

I checked the 96 team's minutes. 10 players averaged 10 minutes or more and the 11th avg. 9.7. The top minute getter (A. Walker) got only 27 with Delk about a minute less. I would play 10 on this team and adjust according to how they're playing (mostly on the defensive side) and the other team's strengths and weaknesses. But Cal doesn't like playing that many.

Hopefully this is the first of many great games from Z. I hope he's not another Rekalin Sims or the 2003 Big Blue Madness version of Woo. I remember seeing him in that scrimmage thinking he was going to dominate.

Almost a platoon....

This one wasn't a scrimmage but, yeah, I thought Woo was gonna be a good one. (He was built like a basketball tank.) He was of good character but sure fell on the court. I hated that for him.

what I loved most is the kid seems to have a nasty streak. Most of these Euros look scared or very timid. Not Z, he was mixing it up. That spin dunk miss was so aggressive, looked like he wanted to bring the rim down.
That move was nasty, you don’t see 7 footers make moves like that very often.

A couple of things not really mentioned much about Big Z I noticed. When he was going to rebound he looks more aggressive boxing out than our other bigs. And when he was pushed going down the floor because the guy was mad being elbowed Big Z was ready to go with him. He does not look like a typical freshman but a more mature and confident been through the wars type.
