I was In Nashville for the first game of Stoops there are several constants that have not changed.
Stoops teams are sloppy, inconsistent, and with the rare exception unimaginative displaying really poor football IQ. This team and it’s coordinators display these traits more than most of Stoops teams. Busted assignments on defense, poor special teams play, and completely inane offensive play calling are the main problems. If Stoops can’t run the ball down the other teams throat UK is done.
Has Stoops improved UK football? Obvious answer is yes. My question is whether he can take the next step and that is on him to clean up the messy product he and his coaches consistently produce.
Two seasons ago Stoops said he needed to evolve the offense. While partially right - he is missed the biggest problem: mistakes, lack of discipline, and preparation. The offense and defensive scheme don’t matter if that scheme is poorly executed and the players aren’t prepared.
Unfortunately, the hallmark of Stoops teams hasn’t changed since that first terrible night in Nashville.
