Is Chandler injured?

At this point he just looks either lost or like he is having to think and not react which puts him a step behind. I remember the last game he played he made a pretty bad decision and the camera picked up Pope and he, for one of the only times I can recall all season, showed frustration with Collin's decision.

He had a hammy injury in the offseason but I haven't heard anything recently. I think Pope is just trimming his lineup and Chandler isn't ready.
Yep. Played 16 mins against a weak Brown team, and went 0-5 from the field. Let's face it. if you go to the bench Brea, Almoner, Perry and Garrison are going to be called on ahead of him now.

I don’t know what some folks here were expecting. Did you really think we were gonna keep playing everybody for the whole season?

The reason Chandler isn’t playing is very simple: we’ve reached the point in the season, where it’s time to tighten the rotation and get serious. The games where everybody plays are done. Hell, the only reason Perry’s playing is because of Kriisa’s injury.

We’re already playing a nine man rotation. That’s a lot. It ain’t gonna get any broader, and it might get even smaller.

This.

He just isn't ready to give major minutes. To give him minutes, you'd have to take them from someone else. We could do the developmental minutes vs CupCake U and little sisters of the poor. Now we're in SEC play and every game is a war.

He's fine we just found our rotation and he's not in it unless we're winning by a lot.
If Chandler had some good handles maybe he could have got some time at point guard but I don't think that's him so he sets

I had heard he retweaked the hamstring, so they were taking it slow in his return. He may be available and just not an option if they can help it.

The notion that it's time to "tighten up the roster" doesn't make any sense.

I don't think like Cal, and I don't know that Pope does either, but that's what "tightening up" sounds like. Cal was one big sphincter the tightness of which affected his teams in big games and in March. Tightening up is THE OPPOSITE of what this team needs to be or do. We need to continue to develop depth ALL YEAR. The more depth the better when we get to tournament play.

What ever the reason we seem to be playing good ball, minus the UGA game. Hopefully we continue to get better at D and rebounding each game, keep playing at a high rate on offense and continue to move the ball and hit our shots. We need a great game Saturday, Bama will be trying not to go on a 2 game losing streak. Like to see Brea, Oweh, Carr, heck all of them on their A game, have it all come together for the perfect storm and send Bama back south hurting with a 2 game losing streak.

I think he’s just a typical freshman who isn’t ready for SEC play. The kid also is shaking off two years of rust from not playing.

I just hope he sticks it out with us because he has the athletic ability and tools to be a solid contributor as an upperclassman.
This. I think we will see a significantly improved version of Chandler next season. It takes a while to build that strength back, plus adjusting to the speed of athletes in the SEC is no simple task. Long term he is a promising player.

Agree.
I don’t think anything is wrong with him.
Kinda like Noah. Just some dudes are ahead of you at this point in his career.

Give those dudes time and make sure they are ready for when their time is called to produce.

Shortening the rotation in the second half of the season is not a Cal thing, instead it's a college basketball thing.

It's the way almost EVERY good coach has done it for the nearly half century that I've been following this sport. Why? Because it seems to be the way that works best. In November/December coaches play more players to experiment with different combinations, give everyone a chance, see what does and doesn't work. But after January when shit gets serious they reduce the rotation to usually no more than the eight or nine that they feel they can most rely on.

If you haven't noticed this pattern over the years, then you haven't been paying much attention.

Yeah, Pope likes to use depth to wear teams out, especially in the first half. If you can contribute, you are going to play. I just think Chandler can't really contribute this year. Hopefully he sticks around

I don't think he's hurt. He also doesn't have a role. He's not a PG. He's not a great shooter. Unfortunately, he's not providing depth for some of the areas where UK is thin, and there's no reason to ever play him over Brea, Robinson, Oweh or Almanor.

I don't think it's decided yet. We have 2 months to go still.

He just isn't a ready contributor yet. It's also hard to distribute minutes to everyone when you are n wars every game n the sec.

We play 9 now and that's a good rotation and deeper than some teams. The freshmen were never playing much this season (except due to injury) and that's ok. These guys all didn't transfer here to sit behind freshmen.

Clearly not ready and didn't make it into the rotation for conference play. I'm good with it. When he subbed in, it often killed momentum or resulted in wasted offensive sets (his last shot might have been an airball from the corner that missed by 3 feet).

Glad Pope stopped putting him out there with Perry. I think that hurt Perry's overall play, too. Now, we get Perry with starter-level players and he is gaining confidence.

Said it before but he’s the #3 SG in the rotation behind Otega and Brea. The same way Noah is the #3 SF behind Robinson & Almanor. He may even be the #3 PF for small ball behind Carr and Almanor. Perry is the #3 PG but he’s playing because Kerr is hurt & he moved up the depth chart.

These guys all had upperclassmen ahead of them who we PAID to come here. Their minutes will come. I still think Noah will be the best of the 3 when it’s all said and done. His size & strength to go with his shooting ability is too much of an upside. But Chandler has the best athleticism of the group. Just the opportunity has helped Perry a ton and he’s doing well. I take Pope for face value when he says he believes in all 3 of his freshmen’s abilities. Looking forward to watching them develop.

Before the one-and-done era, one of the most exciting things about college basketball was watching our freshman make the sophomore and then even the junior leap. The development and maturation were obvious. It was almost as gratifying to watch, as fans, as it must have been for the players themselves to experience. I hope Chandler and others return and we get to see it again.

The only thing he does better than Noah is jump higher, he’s been given ample opportunities and has produced nothing. Perry has gotten a chance because of the Kerr injury but Noah has passed him it seems and they’re still behind OO, JR, brea. If he stays which I hope he does, then he’ll be a big time contributor the next 2-3 yrs but he may not stick it out like some have said.

The days of kids of Chandler's caliber hanging around a program for 4 years just to get some "more minutes" and develop doesn't work anymore. They hit the portal, get a payday, and land someplace where they can start or even be a star. And then maybe hit the portal again. Dude is not hanging around UK to get more 'minutes' next season. He's not a Kentucky kid where this was his lifelong childhood dream. And he came in with a lot of hype.

So in other words. Coach Pope’s decision.

We have seen that happen a couple times in this era, with WCS and Richards, PJ for just the sophomore jump. It is a lot more rare nowadays though.

I completely agree. But, unfortunately, those days are over. The free agent mercenary mentality has taken over the sport.

Look at the box scores. Call it whatever you want, but five dudes are averaging about 30 mins/game in SEC play. Four other dudes are averaging about 10-14 mins. It isn't because of injuries.

Is Collin Chandler not playing because of an injury or is it just Coach Pope’s decision?
No.He’s just not very wise . He’s a basketball player on a campus with thousands of coeds ……and he got engaged to a chick that lives in Utah. lol . I’m thinking Kentucky is too big a stage to “relearn” basketball “ and he’s riding out this season and will be back out west with his wife/fiancé next season.
