Was texting with an IU alum when the news broke. I chuckled:
“I saw a rumor where Mark Cuban was gonna be taking head of iu basketball ops a few weeks ago....if that happens, it's gotta be brad Steven's.”
When I shot that down, here was his next brilliant idea:
“Honestly, there's alot of buzz around Tom Crean making a return also. With the new NIL structure he'd do great. He was pretty Stellar when he was here and brought us back to prominence, he just couldn't get over the hump so iu fans went for his head, but he achieved more than Woodson and Miller combined. I wouldn't be mad if he came back.”
When I mentioned Pearl as who I would go after if I was in their shoes:
“Pearl said IU was his dream job in a press conference a few years ago, I think he coached at an IU system school like cignetti.
Pearl has been pretty mid at auburn. Obviously they've done better than IU, but he's older and hasn't really taken a team to a championship.”

I want Beard nowhere near this program. And Pearl isn’t leaving Auburn at this stage in his career. He’s got it made there and there’s nothing UK or Indiana can’t give him resource wise that he can’t get at Auburn. He’s got them absolutely rolling and it would be stupid go somewhere else at this point.
I agree with you. The 2022 team was absolutely a title contender. Injuries did us in that year in my opinion.
He was about to be fired anyway i think. Heard at one of the games they lost a bunch of IU fans left the game yelling "fire Woodson".
I agree that I care much less about IU being good than those others. I don't even really consider them a rival at this point, other than their fans being absolutely awful everytime I've been to games in Bloomington

I’ll die on this hill - had the portal not just been getting going and our roster got ravaged by it prior to Crean’s last season, he’s turning that year 4 corner like he did at Marquette and IU and we’re winning a ton of games. You could see it about to happen and then boom, portal destroys our roster and he wasn’t ready for it. Timing sucked.
I can bet if Pearl was offered our job last year he would’ve crawled here….. UK>Auburn and will always be and it’s not even close! Auburn is no where on UK’s level!!

Forgive me, but I’ve heard that before about many coaches who didn’t come here. In 2024 people still overvalue how attractive blue blood jobs are. I know Indiana is more irrelevant right now, but I think the concept is the same.
I’m sorry for saying IU is too irrelevant to worry about. They deserve a bad coach and I’m sorry for my words.
Say it again for those people in the back. This is pro style competition now. We don’t need any more challenges than we already face to be great year to year.
They will do the Indiana thing and hire Dane Fife.

If I were the head of the IU search committee, I would consider a bidding war with UNC for Hubert.

In my entire lifetime they have never been close to relevant so I think it’s a perspective issue. People my age have zero fear of Indiana. I do realize it wasn’t a wise thing to flippantly say about IU so I do apologizeI'm afraid you don't mean it... Again please.
If they get Beard, they can to back to what the program was built on - choking players!
A return to a real Kentucky/ Indiana rivalry would be good for us and all of college basketball.
