It's March. It's fine to critique a player, but stop insulting our guys

These guys have had an up and down year and they need our support NOW. hey had a bad game tonight...they lost to Evansville...ok fine. They clinched an SEC title with 1 week to go in the season. They're on the 2/3 seed line. We have the chance to make a run for a title.

Ashton Hagans is a KID. All of you can whine and moan about his "struggles", but most of you couldn't even get a walk-on spot at Asbury College....leave him alone. He plays his heart out every night and you can't question his heart. He chose to come back and play here...wasn't a kid that just wanted to jump to the NBA after a year...

He's hit a rough spot...but it's our job to get him through this spot. Because this forum and whiny babies on here don't have a good track record when putting down OUR GUYS

-You all just whined about Darius Miller being "soft" and never being able to step up in big moments...

-Terrence Jones was overrated and costing our team....yeah how'd that turn out?

-Poythress was soft too...really was never going to do anything big for us....

-The Harrison's were just looking for one year and to get out...they were just selfish and couldn't take our team anywhere?

-DeAndre Liggins was a team cancer....why was he even still on the roster?

-The 2014 team was the biggest waste of talent in history? How could they lose to a SC team with a losing record. Biggest bust recruiting class ever....

Hagans has hit a rough patch, but he will be fine and I trust Cal to get him through it....whiny babies can cry about those college kids not giving the effort that they see through their tv screens...but I'll be right here when Ashton turns it around!

Hagans nor any of the other players even knows this board exists. You give this place too much credit.

Maybe Michael Porter it tough enough for ya? Maybe he should eat some more pop-tarts to toughen him up.

I know....the guy that's so dang tired at the end of games because he gives so much effort is just not giving you the play you want.
I’m just saying. Every night is a bit of a stretch when I watch him jog back on turnovers and lay on the ground to pout and then run back. Hagans has great plays defensively sometimes. But those plays happen sparingly this year.

Maybe you guys should read one of the other threads on here regarding a Hagans.

Listen I love Hagans he’s tough as nails and plays hard mostly every night and when he’s on he’s the best PG in the country but right now he’s hit a rough spot on the court and off and cal and staff have gotta fix it it’s that simple.
And I trust our coach that he'll get it right. Cal has a track record to get it right come March....he's earned that benefit of the doubt.

He’s not a kid anymore he’s an adult and he needs to act like it and be this teams leader if we want to have a chance in the tournament. He can’t be fighting with the coaching staff and other players on the team like he did tonight or we won’t make it past the first weekend in the dance

And I trust our coach that he'll get it right. Cal has a track record to get it right come March....he's earned that benefit of the doubt.
no doubt but he better fix it fast the SECT is coming up and so is the big one we can’t have him lashing out at coaches and trying to knock the ball away from teammates in march

Dude’s 20 years old and is supposed to be a leader on the team. He ain’t a kid anymore
And how old are you and what's your contribution to the Kentucky Basketball team?

Why didn't you personally go into the game and win the game? He doesn't owe you anything, yes he needs to play better and get that attitude right...but he isn't supposed to be anything other than what he is...

He's a top talent and that's why he's on our team. We're fans...and he's not being paid a salary like an NBA player.

Play him at the three as an undersized liggens type. That’s the only hope with him now. 80% of the game is between the ears and hágans isn’t on the same page as his mates.

You can be all in with him all you want but if he exchange occurred with cal as reported then there is no doubt he cost us the game, a good seed and is potentially cancerous. He’s no kid. He’s 21. This isn’t the university of Ashton hagans the team the program come first. If that means he has to sit or leave whatever he needs to do that. This program is too big to allow one player to have the negative affect hagans has the past several weeks. As someone else pointed out as quickley emerged in a big way thats when hagans went headcase on us and it hasn’t been about his team, his coaches or his fans it’s been about him.

What’s our contribution to the team and program? It’s called being fans. We contribute support and $$$. Oh yeah, without us none of this would exist. It’s always good to remember this simple concept.

So to be clear, when Hagans was being a whiny baby tonight, you were OK with that, but when fans become whiny babies over his whining, that's where you draw the line. Makes sense.
I'm not saying it was good and I'm not mad about the loss....

But I've just seen his character completely attacked on here and he does not deserve it...He's had a good year up until the last month.

HE CAME BACK. He was a 5 star kid that struggled and chose to come back and work hard.

Wanting him off the team...calling him selfish....

But if he had chosen to play at UGA over us or went pro last year he would've been soft or selfish for not wanting the challenge of Kentucky.

I want him to get it right...but our fans are just being overly viscous towards him tonight.

He's not the sole reason we lost. EJ, Brooks, Nick, and Nate got ABUSED in the post. Quickley shot 3 for 11 from 2-point range with 4 turnovers. Ashton wasn't good either...but it's a TEAM effort. Fulkerson ate us tonight.

And the players get how much $$$?

"That free scholarship is so much money compared to the millions and millions the University gets from TV deals and endorsements"

His character is being attacked based on his actions tonight. Its not rocket science nor is it behavior that is rationally defensible or acceptable. Period.

We lost that game. Panic all around. Cal couldn't coach and Jones was selfish. We lost to Kemba when Liggins missed a 3 that probably would've won us a title.

They get a whole lot more than I did when I went to college (that I had to pay for). A 100% free education. Rockstar treatment. The ability to start building a brand for themselves. Training for a career to play a game and make millions. Yeah, poor babies.

Also, it’s not like anyone forces these poor mistreated kids to play college ball. It’s their choice. They can do something else just like the rest of us. Don’t make a decision and bitch about the outcome of it.

I hope you're character isn't judged at your worst moment. I'm betting a lot of people attacking Ashton tonight have done much worse than had a bad attitude during a basketball game at 20 years old

....and I bet none of you had 20k+ yelling at you and the weight of a state on your shoulders...with millions of dollars at stake for your career. And when you mess up...a bunch of guys talk endlessly about you on an internet forum.

Has he committed a crime? Has he failed his classes? Did he sexually abuse a woman? Has he mistreated someone or bullied them? Has he joined ISIS?

He had a bad night. He's been playing bad and this forum hasn't been happy with his play...now that he has given the crowd a reason to judge his character...the sharks smell blood.

And if he did something that warrants suspension or removal on the team...fine...but I'm not going to let this happen.

Then don't watch them if they make you so mad. It's sports and they're humans. Yes I get into games and I get mad when they lose, but these are kids. And just because someone magically turns 18 doesn't make them automatically have the maturity and life experiences of a 45 year old WWII vet.

But if your reason to get mad is
"Them dagum kids getting a dorm room and girls likin em is fair game for me to rip em a new one"

I haven't once in this thread defended his play or his actions tonight...but every time a player struggles it's always the same...

"AAU ball, selfish, ain't like they used to be, waiting for their NBA check, don't care about UK"

This is a business....... thats the only reason Hagans is here. stop your idol worship because he doesnt give 1 sh*t about you. He deserves what he gets from the fans now......... if he wants to atone for it.. then he'll be forgiven... but if he chooses to be a baby about it... he'll get more flak

Pretty much in agreement with everything you are saying tonight.

I hate it when fans get on here and post as if they know the kids personally, know what’s in their heads, know how much they do or don’t care, and know how much they do or don’t try.

We are not privy to exactly what went down tonight, so I think maybe we should calm down and trust the coaching staff to take care of it. Your last statement is EXACTLY right.

I’m not “mad”. I’m disappointed. It doesn’t affect my life. I enjoy and support the program, probably much longer than you and many others on here have. I just get sick and tired about these poor kids and how they’re treated. Bullshit. Save the sorrow for our servicemen and women who deserve it, not spoiled rotten teens that are treated like rockstars. Is there going to be pressure. Sure. Suck it up. No one makes them do it. Don’t get me wrong, I love our players and want them to succeed to the fullest. I just don’t want to hear the “poor kids” routine. It’s time to put on the big boy panties.

Father forgive Ashton Hagans, for he has Sinned in your eyes for the sin of (checks notes), had a bad night and upset some people sitting at home watching TV.

May he meet all upset fans at their homes and personally apologize to all he has sinned to for not performing up to their standards!

I know, right? Maybe if we had an IG group or TikTok, but these dudes aren’t on these message boards at all...if they r hearin shit from fans, it’s from those platforms...not freakin RR on Cats illustrated. Plz..if they were readin the boards, then they would see what GYERO on the Paddock says about them....and then they could wine and cry. This board is vanilla af...

THen save the anger and disappointment towards things that deserve it...like ISIS or North Korea....I had to wake up this morning and look at my city be destroyed by a tornado. I'm lucky I'm fine...but I know may who lost everything. Kentucky lost a basketball game.

They're popular so they don't face any pressure? He's getting free college and yes he gets benefits of being on campus, but stop acting like Ashton is rich and famous.

It may make some mad...but his draft stock should be important for him...because that's his shot to make it in life. He's trained his whole life and it's make or break.

Just like if you were going to Law School and you just failed an exam and you're close to failing a class because of it....

And say what you want...but remember back when Quickley wasn't playing too great and Maxey was inconsistent....Ashton was pretty much the only guard we could count on early on and no telling how many other games we could've dropped early on...

Look man, its admirable that you’re going on a crusade to defend Hagans but guess what, Hagans isn’t a kid. He’s the same age (20) as my son who is currently serving his country in Saudi Arabia. My son’s superiors don’t baby his ass and Cal doesn’t need to baby Hagans ass. Sack up and work on your game instead of sulking like a whiny baby on the sidelines.

All true, but newsflash: this is a message board to discuss Kentucky basketball and other sports. If I want to discuss world hunger or some other heavy topics, I’ll locate media for those topics.

You're the one that told me to save the sorrow for the other topics worthy of it...go back and read your post.

If I want to have sorrow for a Kentucky Basketball player on a Kentucky basketball forum....I will.

I'll be rooting UK on no matter what but I'm not going all in because I don't want to be letdown. This team is too Jekyll and Hyde and there's way too much parity in college basketball this year to do that. This team could win it all or they could get knocked out in the first round or anything in between. After tonight, I have serious doubts. Blowing a 17 point lead at home, especially on Senior Night and in the last home game a few of these guys will play to a 16-13 rival is a serious red flag to me. Plus, this Star Wars/Christopher Lee quote always comes to my mind in situations like this.
