Illinois TE Hunter Boyer commits to UK!

Oh No!! I am “part of the problem,” because I want UK to win next year. Not sure whose problem, but I accept the role!!!
You know the definition of insanity, don't you ? A Stoops ran football program insanity on steroids . My god some of the mindboggling decisions ,asinine decisions ,that comes from that football program well you can't make it up DISGRACE

I remember when we tried to do that in the Joker days because we couldn’t get any OTs, not saying it can’t happen but it didn’t out very well.

Under brooks its exactly what they did and it worked. Worked for several other positions too under brooks. Two more off top of my head was woodyard and tamme. Its a viable strategy at several positions.

Joker just sucked.

Ironically, that’s not the definition of insanity.

NO. More like a sixth offensive lineman. He is a blocking TE, you do have to have those you know. Don't you ?
My wife's cousin has a son who played at Baylor from 2011-2015. He was a backup DT for his first 4 years who was in the rotation and started 3 games. His senior year, they moved him to "TE" where at 6'3 295, he was basically an extra OL. He was really effective in short yardage/goal line situations as a lead blocker out of the backfield and in max pass protection, with the exception of one memorable occasion where he slipped out and caught a 9 yard TD pass against WVU. I'm guessing this is how Boyer will be used as well.

I’d go out on a limb and say we traded up regarding what is needed incoming vs outgoing tight end

Yeah, a few more of those 10 win seasons would be disgraceful. Total insanity.

I agree largely, though it seems it worked out for Brooks in an instance or two, though names escape me.

It worked some because our coaching was good enough to coach around it to a degree. They developed enough skill guys too to be able to work around it. In this day and age I’m not sure anyone stays long enough to see the results of putting weight on them either.

We had excellent coaching no doubt but we also struggled in recruiting. That meant we had to take different level of risks then than now.

Was getting ready to type the same thing. Would be hard to gain 10-15 let alone 25-30. He has the frame though.
Would he be willing to RS and gain weight if that is the plan? I mean... dude probably isn't playing nfl at TE but maybe you could sell him on making the league as a OT....?

It speaks volumes that we are considering this though. We "thought" we had recruited OL well the last 4 years... LOL.

Doesn’t matter anyway he’s going to be an extra lineman with all the running that’s in store next year!

QB and OT. Are there positions more difficult in recruiting?

I'd say he will probably just ride the pine like most of the players on the roster. Coaches don't know what to do with players when they get here. They either rotate them not enough or too damn much.

That's a big old boy, six six and 270? A TE? Cool, welcome young man to the BBN.

Because of @The-Hack I'm craving some good jowl. Not all jowls are created equal, lol. My grandmother used to always say, the fat should be the whitest of white on any jowl. She was right.

Now back to UK football.....

I would put DT/Nose/Cornerback on or near the same level of difficulty.

With dedication and some decent size/strength, lots of players make good Centers, Guards and tight ends. A greater degree of athleticism is needed to excel at OT and DT.

And more folks fit within the size/needed athleticism of LB and Safety than fit the needed athleticism of a good Cornerback.

QB is obviously the toughest spot, and good ones need all the blessings to truly excel.

If I recall correctly, Howard Schnellenberger would recruit a bunch of big DT’s with the expectation that some would become OL, probably OTs.
