I'll say it again

The most consistent part of our team this year is guard play, and that includes Briscoe. We need him to come on along with our two star guard studs.

I agree. He plays hard but he can only score on layups. If he had to earn his playing time like some of the other guys, he would never see the floor. He is a big time recruit but so far he has under performed just like Skal but he gets to play while Skal sits. They both should sit based on how they are playing.

I think Briscoe has a nice pull up jumper from 15 but he doesn't do it enough.

This team goes no where with a 6-3 forward who shoots 40 percent from the free throw line. He allows his man to help off him clogging lanes for Ulis and Murray. His presence shuts the offense down at crunch time. Next, too many mismatches exist on defense making Kentucky too small across the board. I like Briscoe, but he should only play as the point, when Ulis rests on this team. This team has options. Mulder would stretch the floor. Matthews could add physical edge. Nice win today, but it took a sensational shooting day.
Ulis
Murray
Mulder
Willis
Lee/Poy
Or alternatively
Ulis
Murray
Poy
Willis
Lee

Briscoe will start every game from here on out unless he gets hurt. So are you gonna just keep saying this over and over? Seems like insanity since it's not going to happen.

I guess I'll have too. A 6-3 bull that no one guards does not work too well with no post game.

The one game that I thought Briscoe made that turnaround was the Mizz game when he went 5/9 from 12-15ft jumpers and went 5/6 from FT Line for 15 points. That was the game he took all midrange jumpers from 12-15 ft and was successful at the FT Line. If he could do this each night and get his 5 or 6 rebounds and 5 or 6 assists each night that is the Briscoe we need. I had thought at one time that Coach Cal might try Ulis, Murray, Willis, Poythress, and Lee as a starting 5 and that would put 4 good shooters on the floor at one time. Ulis, Murray, and Willis all good shooters and good 3-point shooters and Poythress has a nice shot too. I just think Coach Cal like Briscoe so much because of his good Defense, hustle, rebs, and assists he brings each night. I just wish he could have the offense output he had against Mizz when hitting 5/9 and 5/6 FT line for 15 points. If we could get that production each night on offense that would help this team alot!

I think most shooting guards in the country would be happy to play as well as Briscoe did against Missouri. Asking for him to do that consistently is asking for way too much. I think what we saw in the Missouri game is something that Isaiah would give us next year if he worked hard over the summer but I just don't see it this year.
But he can defend and rebound so he has to be in there.
He's complicating free throw shooting. It's not as hard as he's making it look.

I agree it may be too much to ask at this stage of the year for free throw shooting. But I like his pull up jumper from 12-15. He doesn't do it enough but when he does, he hits them at a pretty good clip.

Matthews does not shoot any better really. Otherwise I agree.

I'll take your word for it, I've not seen him shoot anything consistently. Seems like a mental block to me. He's too good of an athlete to struggle with shooting the way he does.

We straight up have some idiots as fans and the OP is exhibit A. Briscoe will not be in if it is close game late as he was not during KU. Simple as that. Briscoe will work on his Freebies over the summer and come back and shoot like he did from the time he 5 to 17 ( 70 % from the line ) . Once a ball gets rolling it is hard to stop .

I can't understand how he can be so woeful at the line. I would think he could hit at least 50% just by luck
If he's not in the gym every day shooting a minimum of 500 shots he's making a mistake. I'd be more than happy to drive all the way to Lexington from Walton to shag balls for him if he needed someone to do it. He would be a huge weapon if he could shoot.

If he ever found his stroke he would be scary good. I'm sure he's in the gym a lot working. I just think it's some mental block. Other than that, I don't have the answer.

Maybe it's not the refs. Maybe it's something we are doing. We put zero pressure on the defense when we have the ball. We take a lot of jump shots and we stand around. With our guards we should be moving our bigs out of the paint and letting our guards penetrate and create.
Maybe it is because Murray and Willis can't guard their men and our big guys are forced to defend them at the rim and foul?

That is definitely a problem. But our offense is just stuck in the mud. I watched games all day today and I never saw another team stand around like UK does. I Marvel at teams like Duke and Notre Dame, they move everyone out of the paint and let their guards cut to the basket.
The teams that aren't perimeter oriented still move and set screens, our guys stand there and allow the defense to rest and get rebounding position. We would shoot more free throws if we put more pressure on their defense.

Lol yep, he did say it before lol. But Briscoe isn't a problem. Yes he needs to work on his shooting but he's a bulldog on the defensive end. And he rebounds the ball well for a guard. I don't have a problem with Briscoe at all.

And I have no problem with this statement
