If this is true, why is UNC sucking so bad?

Oh, where ever you are now, I am not much on wasting time. You be gone. Respect goes a long way. Try it some time.

I’ve dealt with jealousy. Know how to handle it.

Wayne was top 10 in his day but that’s about it.

Those anniversary plastic knives with his face on the blade are always so awful.

Just messin with ya old timer. The Japanese respect their old people so I guess I could learn a few lessons.

Been a while maybe we’ll speak again.

When I’ve gone, I’ve always thought it was the other way. I see NC State stuff the most. Maybe I’m just in a certain part that it seems that way. I was shocked at how little of Duke garb I’ve seen, and definitely saw more NC State shirts. It’s been a while but the people we associated with there were all NCState fans too. Anecdotal but it was noticeable enough that it grabbed our attention.
NC State is the land grant university. It is one of the best land grants in the country. Because of that it has extension offices in every county. It’s the people’s school and a great one. UNCCH is an elitist school of national reputation. Duke is private and I would guess has a very low percentage of students FROM the state of NC. Both Duke and CH have a higher profile nationally because of more athletic success but NC State is North Carolina’s school.

Us then Duke. And there’s been times where they’ve clearly been more valuable than us but they also have more band wagon fans and so when they’re down they lose more than we do.

Jmo, and it kills me to say, but duke is far and away tops. The only reason this will never be verified by data is because they're private and nothing is open record.

They have just shy of an outright partnership with Nike, usa basketball. That alone puts them well ahead. Then add in the propaganda arm of espn and its just absurd.

Hate it but can’t disagree. I think it’s also a testament of how strong BBN is that we can organically hold up against such a powerful combination of forces.

Cal’s last year. Doesn’t surprise me at all. Compare it to once Pope got hired. I bet there’s a difference.

It ran through December of last year.

And it has nothing to do with Cal frankly when you break down the numbers.

It has everything to do with how our athletes are marketed.

UNC is a land grant university also…

And having lived in NC for a good bit and traveled the state a good bit and being a Duke grad — I think most of NC citizens bleed baby blue.

You’re right that NCSU is the agricultural college and has presence in all counties. It is a great school and provides more services to more communities in the great state of North Carolina. But there are just more Tar Heel fans. Period. Just like…

KU has more fans than KSU (the Ag school)
OU has more fans than OSU (the Ag school)
Michigan has more fans than MSU (the Ag school)
UVA has more fans than Va Tech (the Ag school)
Alabama has more fans than Auburn (the Ag school) this is the closest.
And even t.u. has more fans than A&M (the Ag school)

All public universities are land grant universities. The only universities that come to mind where the ag school is the most popular in the state are LSU and Kentucky.

I think more universities that have a veterinary program and an agriculture program have the county extension program offices. The schools have a persona of students from small towns that work hard and know how to wake up early and drive a stick shift. The other ones are mostly liberal and entitled that want to be women’s studies English teacher…

NCSU is no exception. I would hire a kid from State over UNC 9 times out of 10. But UNC is North Carolina’s school.

IMHO

I thought you were talking season and not hard date range. Be interesting to see if that skewed up after April 24 or not. I’d bet it did. Also not doing squat in the tournament has to drag that down. I’d bet at least a quarter of merch gets sold around the tournament as the band wagon fans jump on board.

I think he is talking from a point of view of the community rather than sports. He is saying NCSU is the university that provides the most service to the community and thus the “people’s university.”

You are talking sports fans, and UNC fans by far outweigh everyone else.

two things are missing from our board :

1) "The List" permanently stickied and updated at the top and ....
2) A 100+ page thread that runs for nearly ten years that says "Bump this thread when UNC*** Sucks"

Maybe the Tar Holes can continue wallowing in mediocrity another year and give us a legit chance to start that thread up!

I was tempted to start it last year, but I knew they had Bubba as the chair from the get-go. Absolutely no chance a UNC*** "bubble team" would ever miss the NCAA tournament, with Bubba as the chair, right ?

of course not.

which brings me to the relevant question :

Will Bubba be chair for NEXT YEAR?
(let's hope not!)

Go Big Blue !

ps - whatever happened to the West Virginia Governor's FBI investigation of NCAA corruption ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Bubba keeps adding gasoline to the Tar Heel dumpster fire. Better question to ask is “who is fired first: Cunningham or Davis?”

North Carolina

edit
North Carolina State University(NCSU) was founded after citizens criticized the misuse of federal land-grant resources by the University of North Carolina(UNC).
