If I were coach

UK can’t compete consistently with the top 1/2 of the SEC by playing like they do, because we don’t get the players they do. So here is what I would do if I were coach on offense;

1. Pay and go after the best O and D lineman you can find. Pay them as well if not better than other top SEC schools.
2. Recruit athletic QB’s who if they went to Alabama or Georgia would not play QB but will play QB for us.
3. Run an option/short passing/trapping with the occasional long ball offense. Make the other teams D have to account for our QB’s legs.
4. Play fast
5. Recruit big strong good blocking receivers who may not be super fast but can post people up when needed.

We can’t out play other SEC teams by doing what they do. We never will be able to. We have to play and think differently.

I would think I am living in high cotton when I can make $9000000 a year without ever winning a SEC title. I would think my AD must be brain dead to pay me so much. And finally, I would do, or say, or blame any coach that works for me as long I got my extensions. Maybe if I was coach I would ask for a raise and a lifetime deal. $9,000,000 a year, I must be dreaming no one is that stupid, are they?

I guess you forgot the Gran years. Quite literally what they did. Could run block all day, have 200 yards on the ground. 45 yards passing and lose to the big boys by 35. This idea does not work in modern football

At the end of the day people either want to see winning football or fun & exciting football. Stoops offered us a small glimpse at winning football (probably mostly due to a down SEC East) and has never offered fun. But going forward I think most of us aren’t seeing that winning continuing.

Is what we are doing now working?:) it most certainly can work. Control the ball ..
Blocking and running the ball always works.

And that is very boring football

I’ll tell ya what’s worse than boring.. losing 31-6 to South Carolina at home because we can’t block.
Tommy Frazier and Nebraska was not boring. Ky can’t compete doing it the same way as Georgia, Alabama, Texas or even TN.

Yeah it didn’t work against decent teams like OP is suggesting. FCS, mid majors and low level SEC team, sure it worked well enough to be 4-4 in the SEC and make it to Nashville in December.
