If brandon garrison can play pf?

I think he is good in transition and has shooting skills, but does not look good in low post. So basically, his skill is more like a pf than c.

i think this year we have no choice and Garrison has to be the backup center. But I want to think about next year, if he and possibly wilson share the pf spot time and then we recruit one center with huge physically in portal as starter?

I just feel Garrison's size is a little small for center, we can see this in lots of games when he guards other center. But I think he has enough size to play pf. He performs good defense against Flagg. Pf may be his more natural position. He lacks physically for C but I think he could perform significantly better in physically in PF position.

Remember when the morphed Patrick Patterson into a 4 man. Maybe BG could make a similar move next year? 🤔 Not the worst idea I've heard

Wilson isn't coming here to share minutes.
Wilson will be the starter if he comes. Garrison will still be the third option for frontcourt and Moreno only plays about 10 mins. Expect the frontcourt time split like 25/25/20/10.

Moreno will be solid player in his second year, he just needs to develop his physically to compete in SEC. He has very high basketball IQ

Would you say Moreno is a good passer for a HS big? Clearly that needs to be an emphasis while recruiting bigs under Pope.

And when you say Garrison will be the third option, are you assuming we get a starting C in the portal?

Moreno is a good passer. Others mention in other posts that he always makes correct decision on the court.

Yes, if I am Pope, I would like to grab a physical starter C from portal and makes Garrison the third option (but plays similar minutes with starters).

What I’ve seen of Moreno, his passing is what stands out. I mean he’s 7’, so he gets a lot of rebounds and blocks a lot of shots, but his passing and decision making is great. His shot is pretty good too. I may be wrong, but he doesn’t look like he’ll be a great low post scorer with his back to the basket. A couple years of strength and conditioning and he’ll be a good center.

Players get better. I expect Garrison to improve and be a threat for all conference center. A springier Nick Richard's.
But I don't think hes a power forward. Not coordinated enough to guard today's stretch 4. Plus, he turns offense in to Cal Ball where two bigs clog the lane. We need to make cutting easier, not harder.

Garrison will be a lot better next season. He’ll start at the 5 spot. Moreno will back him up.

Wilson, if he comes here, starts at the 4. They will sign a Portal guy to back him up. Hopefully, a 6’10+ dude that give us minutes at both spots, so Moreno has time to learn.

I see this kind of split:

PF Wilson(25)/Portal(15)
C Garrison(25)/Moreno(10)/Portal(5)

He does not have the size of Nick Richards, unfortunately. Nick Richards is 6-11/7-0 with 7-5 wingspan. The size of Garrison is smaller, do not think he will reach Richards level in potential third year

Stil need to grab a solid portal C as starter. Hopefully can get a daniel wolf (c in Michigan) caliber player, solid in rebounding and can make some smart plays.

Did you see him standing next to Somto Cyril??
I feel Somto is definitely bigger than Garrison in my own eyes. Garrison is a little skinny for SEC caliber center

I thought Amari Williams could provide toughness and physically we need but he is very soft. I think Amari has good size

Amari plays like a 6'5" white boy.

We run a complicated system and bigs traditionally come into their own beginning their junior year in terms of development. No matter who we bring in I expect Garrison will get significantly more minutes than anyone else at center through at least our first ten games or so. After that it will depend on how much he “blooms,” how mature freshmen bigs look in actual D1, and how quickly they and portal players are picking things up.

Definitely don’t want to see Garrison at the four. Begging for a completely clogged paint at that point. You definitely don’t want to lose the strength of our guards next year, being their ability to blow by for layups if guarded out too far. That’s gone if the opposing fours are able to play free safety

Can not understand. Amari is about 6-10 or 6-11 I think with 260 pounds. Should be strong enough.

But he is incredibly soft

if Garrison can be developed into stretch 4 role. He has shooting potential

Brandon is coming along, I thought he played his best game the other night . That lame ass call ,where that defender was pushing under the backboard, then he made that big time move that the ref called a hook was a big time flop .those refs let one side do all the shoving and holding despicable ref game and need to be held accountable

If he can develop his shot to be good enough to be a stretch four, he will be a perfect stretch five for us. Pope won’t be playing Garrison as a four for numerous reasons. I have no crystal ball but there are too many issues for that to become a thing imo.

I don’t know about the white boy comment but I do know Garrison is definitely improving before our eyes. I hope he is here next year as well.
I said in November that Garrison had the most upside potential on this team.
He only needs more game time and lots of practice, but he has the talent to help this team where we are the weakest right now.

Amari is a " what you see is what you are going to get" guy. If anyone thinks he is suddenly going to grow a motor and get aggressive on the boards and in the paint....I have some sad news for you.

What you see, is what you get.

I agree with that. Williams reminds me a bit of Poythress in the way of all the potential in the world but he just can’t seem to put the car in gear sort of speak. It used to kill me watching the highlight moments from Poythress thinking “why doesn’t he play aggressive like this all the time”.

Exactly.

When you observe a player that CAN perform at a high level when "THEY" feel like it, yet play below their ability 90% of the time on the floor, you know it is a head and heart problem.......or, they are just plain lazy and don't want to exert the effort required to play at that level.

Garrison has improved no doubt but he needs to avoid trying to dribble the basketball at all costs

Garrison is coming along great. Some of the posts here that "so and so isn't good enough, I've seen enough, need to recruit over so and so blah blah blah" are beyond insufferable. Bunch of clowns on their couches.

I was going to put white girl. Both feet rarely leave the floor and he obviously can't lift both arms at the same time.
Plays soft.....like some g***s.

I like what Garrison brings to the table but I cringe whenever he puts the ball on the floor
I scream at the TV when he starts dribbling. I scream at him and the TV when there is a guard standing there asking for the ball and he takes off with that 6 foot high dribble like he was Majic Johnson. Lol.

Got to get that tuned up for sure.

Garrison needs min at the 4 now! Not next year. And he should be starting over amari Williams. Fire away but Williams isn’t getting better garrison could be a problem for a lot of teams

Honestly, I hope he improves for his future and UKs but a few games ago, going to commercial it showed a highlight of a drive and he just stood there hands down by the basket like he was positioning for a rebound. Never even tried to challenge the shot. He was the only defender between the ball and the basket. He didn’t even look like he thought about challenging the shot. I was done.

Go back and watch the Georgia game if you can stomach it.
Count the number of times that Williams and JR are standing under the basket and never leave their feet in an effort to get a rebound.

And to make it worse, they blocked out nobody. Check the number of offensive rebounds and second chance points Georgia scored.

They both need to go down in the rotation. But, CMP knows as soft as they both are, they would never bounce back from a demotion.

I think at this point you decrease the minutes and get Garrison the time. He is developing nicely.

Edit: I think last game showed Garrison has earned that chance.
