If $44 million was too much to pay, will $35 million be any different if next season goes bad also????

That’s the buyout after next season, so I STILL can’t see Mitch paying the $35 million either.

So, are we stuck with Stoops for at least 3 more seasons no matter how bad it gets???

If we get worse next season, I don't think they'll keep him around. The difference is about 7M+ assistants' buyouts if there are any. If we finish with 7 wins, they won't likely fire him. If we win 8 or more, someone else might hire him.

Asked this same question couple weeks ago. Was told the buyout money is there if the athletic department wanted to buy him out. I'm still banging my head against the wall. How come he hasn't been bought out??? It's past time.

It's not just his contract to account for in the calculation.

It's $44m plus millions to fire Stoops' assistants plus millions to hire a new head coach plus millions to hire the new head coach's assistants. The price tag to move on is closer to $65-70m when projecting next year's expenditures on staff alone.
How much does UK lose in ticket sales, concessions and merchandise if he's retained a couple more seasons?

That's about the right range in total. But the salaries for next years' theoretical staff would go against the $16.5M Stoops and company are set to make in 2025.

bthaunert said above it's actually $40.95M for the buyout. You estimated $12M to buyout our current assistants. That's $53M.

My guess is the next coach would earn about $5M and the assistants would make about 7M (our current assistants make $7.4M) so $12M ~ obviously a little less the $16.5M in keeping him and staff for $9.1M and $7.4M respectively, but a total price tag of $65M like you suggested.

Next year you the buyout would be $34M and $8M for a total of $42M in buyouts. I think it will be a lot easier to stomach if 2025 doesn't go well.

Yep, that's correct. I posted this above:

He's paid $9.1 million annually and has 6 years remaining on his contract. His contract goes through the 2030 season.

Total remaining contract - $54,600,000
Current buyout at 75% - $40,950,000

Year by year breakdown of buyout:

$34,125,000 after the 2025 season
$27,300,000 after the 2026 season
$20,475,000 after the 2027 season
$13,650,000 after the 2028 season
$6,825,000 after the 2029 season
UK can maybe afford to get rid of him after the 28 season. Don't think this will end anytime soon.
