Let’s seal the deal and make him a Wildcat. The kid can flat out play and will be a NBA player in the near future.
Side note. There s a kid, Paul McMillan IV, still available that is a straight bucket getter. Only shot 33% from 3 this season, but he was a Top 20 scorer in D1. I watched him play all through high school and he can go.

Honestly I agree with this. We need competition at the guard position and someone to compete against Lowe. Steel sharpens steel.

If he wants to come here fine but I wouldn’t pursue him. He already rejected us once in favor of that fake diploma mill UNC. There has to be a level of respect and a desire to play here… not just “I have elite numbers so you should waste your time begging me to come”.

I would bet the farm it’s St John’s. He’s from New York and we see time and again kids going back close to home. Wish we had a chance with him, but I don’t see it. Sure do hope I’m wrong.

the reality is you buy loyalty in college now.

all the other things you say are idealistic superlatives for an era long ago.

I love the kids talking about the name on the front, but let's be honest. It's about being the best of the best, and that used to mean fanbase, tradition, and facilities (in no particular order). Now, it's about those things but also being the leader in NIL payment. Wilkerson made it clear, he wasn't just talking about not being the man, he was also talking about being paid as part of the pack, not the leader.

<soapbox >
and unless something is done about it, its going to spiral out of control to the extent that college's financial stability is in jeopardy, as money that used to go to philanthropic, scholarships, or infrastructure is now earmarked by donors to make the sports programs the focal point of the university

</soapbox>

So don't be surprised when a school comes in and buys a kid out from under you and don't denigrate a kid for changing his mind last minute to come to us.

that's the business NCAA colleges are in, and the kids are just taking what the market will bear.

<soapbox>
and you can make the argument Kentucky set the tone for this when we became Mercenary U with Calipari

Didn't JQ technically reject us once? Yes, he was a Cal recruit, but Pope made a push before he ultimately went to AZ St. But now he's back and we are welcoming him with open arms, as we should. I think in this new era there can't be hard feelings over where a player initially chose out of high school, even if they chose a hated rival over us. He would be a great get, and he would fall in love with UK after spending time here, just like most every other player in our history, with the exception of few, have done.

He’s the best option and I would rather have Jackson over any of the other guys we’ve recruited, or it’s been rumored we have recruited, and missed on.

He’s been at the top of my list since he entered the portal.
I agree here.....to be honest, if he can stick at PG vs. combo guard stuff....he's probably better than Lowe (and I'd be fine running him at PG if it cost us Lowe)

lol. its like you havent learned jack sh*t about how Pope recruits yet. zero % chance we even come in the top 3 for Jackson even if we tried for him, we wouldnt drop the bag, Jackson would want guaranteed minutes and shots and all of that is a no go for Pope . Its going to take a special mentality of team first for a star to land at UK

UK probably can't come in late and beat out the other schools. We also won't pay as much so I doubt he's considering UK.
Be careful saying that, there’s a “crowd” that says you don’t know what we have in NIL to pay etc 🙄……..they get their panties in a wad cause they can’t use common sense.

But I agree, I don’t think we will pay what I’m sure is being offered for his talent.

It AMAZES me that our fans truly believe that a player like Ian Jackson would come to UK and share playing time with our other guards. These types of players want the MOST money AND playing time. Whoever gets him will have to structure their offense around him. Coach Pope will NOT do that.

I would be SHOCKED if he even visits here.

If we want to win a title it’s gonna cost us. Period! And to land superstar level players it’s gonna cost more than any assigned values to players. I don’t want to get into a bidding war but if 500k more would have secured Wilkerson you do it while he was here. You make the offer equal to IU while he’s sitting in front of you. You have a pen and the contract right there. That’s how you close deals. When you say yeah go home and pray that’s not how you close deals. Nil contract matching ius in front of him in lex if he doesn’t sign move on quick. When it comes to Jackson. Get him on campus and have the nil offer sheet ready with another 500k higher. It’s like “you want to think about this. Well if you sign now we ll get you an extra 500k.” It’s the only way. We aren’t developing players here we are in position to have to rely hard on the portal to fill out rosters this year and next. Get Barney out of the way and go all in like hasn’t been done in a long time at UK. We aren’t winning big because our roster is constantly a player short or depth is iffy. Right now we are 2 players short. A guard and back up pg. Ian should be able to fill both roles so pay him more. I agree no bidding wars so have a ridiculously high contract ready for the superstar talent. After that if they comeback with an iu offer see you later. Your chance was the moment the contract was in front. Gotta play it like this if you want big fish.

If he wants 35 min a game he can get it but he’s gonna have to play some pg. St. John’s has offers out to several guards. And from what I’ve read pope has been talking to Jackson since he hit the portal

As you can see with Eaglestaff decommitting, that’s not as final as you think.

He won’t take a back seat to other players already here.

By now you have to KNOW that. Wilkerson just said that he didn’t want to share time with a loaded roster. That’s why these kids aren’t coming here and if the player doesn’t want to do that, Coach Pope is NOT going to pay them MORE than what he’s paying players that are ALREADY here and ARE willing to be team players that are also extremely talented.

We have boosters that would absolutely pony up , but Pope is using NIL like a screening test and if they accept less to be here then thats who Pope wants. Some seem to think JMI is still being a huge problem with getting the extra up front NIL

Ian Jackson would start and Wilkerson is an idiot to think he would have had to share anything. And to be fair he didn’t word it that he didn’t want to share time. He wanted to be THE guy. Had nada to do with PT bc he could have had 30-35 min a night if he wanted and when the game is on the line the ball would have likely gone to him. It was a cop out statement. It was the money boss. I don’t think pope is going to bring in a superstar player and cut his time. Idk what any of our guys make but when you need that last piece it’s gonna cost. These guys aren’t holding out for peanuts. Ian Jackson is a legit nba player. Forget the budget bargain on players. You want a title? It’s gonna cost.

Oh I know there’s some that would if asked to come up with that type $$$ but saying that they haven’t for the reason you mentioned. I’m talking about posters on here that cry a river over someone saying anything about us not going to pay certain amounts etc. they cry over not being able to see how things are trending.

He sees guys like him late getting big nil deals so he wants to last piece type money. I’d take him but it would be fine to not take a hard run at Jackson. Offer him big sell him at playing the 2 with time as backup pg.

Well its possible giving him that extra 500k would have surpassed Owehs deal when he returns.. You can't give a player ranked #40 or so more money than your main man going into next season.. I know nothing but just throwing this out as a possibility why..

I think on JQ his asking price droped big time because of the unknown of will he even play this year. Might be ready to play and might be using KY for a cool mill and a rehab place.

JQ has already said he'd be back by September.

Pope won’t pay Jackson more than he’ll pay OO. And Jackson will want a lot more.
(I have no idea what those numbers are, just a hunch).

I would be really interested to see how much Florida spent on their title team...
