Watching several of the big plays.

1. UK is still running tons of outside zone....maybe it's starting to click.
2. Buford was tremendous on run blocking
3. Kattus was kicking guys butts all over the place....he and Dingle have put Upshaw and Cummings off the field.

Scang said they committed more to the run when Flax went down. It suggested Buford is a strength in the run game, but protecting the QB is a struggle.

Scang also said the Crowdus play was designed by a GA (Josh Estes - quality control coach) after watching Ole Miss film.

In that highlight package I only saw one outside zone. At least one that was blocked how we were blocking it by going laterally instead of firing off the ball. The rest were pin/pull and inside zone.

There was one more than might've been outside zone based on the aim point but it was blocked differently. We fired off instead of going laterally.

UK went with a lot of max protect in the 2D Half using 3 TEs, Dingle, Kattus and Bates. Talking heads mentioned how much UK likes Kattus although he's a little undersized right now. Said he was an annoying little shit....well, didn't exactly put it that way but they like his intensity.

1-12 Rush Ana 1:59 rush are outside zone concepts.

the pulling guard plays are not but a ton were outside when the Oline all turn in sync to the same direction

Said it after week 3 that we needed to use that TEs more for pass pro as well as motioning into the backfield as lead blockers. Good tk finally see us start to adjust to our weaknesses

Just going outside doesn't make it an outside zone. It's an entirely different blocking scheme

On the pass to Crowdus, MSU had brought 5 or 6 and Levis was under duress, their DBs were thinking he would try to throw a short ball so they came up not anticipating any sort of long throw, but Levis heaved it 50 yards off his back foot and Crowdus was standing back there by himself to catch it. Regardless of the play design, it was an amazing throw by Levis.

Ok. All the runs cut back to inside the tackles….but you must be Bill Belicheck

Not at all. Just explaining the wide zone concept as all these teams run it. It's more than just aiming. It's the lateral movement of the OL. That's why it's so good in pa because the OL movement looks the same. I linked a video below so you can see what I mean. The OL all go laterally then try to get second level.

Last night we fired off the ball and didn't go laterally at all. Way better results.

I just don't think the wide zone that we want translates to cfb. Last year coen finally scrapped it after msu and we took off. Last night we finally went away from it and looked much better

Josh identified a MSU tendency and Levis got the protection to make the play.

I had an eye on Buford. He played a solid game and I didn't see him blow any assignments. Still a young player. Rapid improvement going on right before our eyes there.

I guess to look ahead a bit. I don't see a reason even if Flax is back....we would not try to rotate him in to keep them fresh...build some depth as well. I was pleased to see a back up guy come in and play solid...When Wohlbaugh beat him out and looked terrrible....I was flabbergasted. BUt this kid coming in and looking like he belongs is a nice sign.

I’m guessing the Kattus, Bates, Dingle, combination was for max protection and to help the running game. I think they want to rotate Upshaw, Cummings and Dingle in route schemes when the OL can hold up on their own.

The one obvious change Stoops and Scangarello committed to was to use as many blockers as necessary to run the ball, and reduce negative plays. (Sacks) One of two things happens in a perfect world. One, the OLine continues to improve to point we don’t have to keep multiple TE’s in for max protection. Two, Kattus becomes a decent threat to catch the ball. The 3 TE set helps our running game, but causes 1-2 of our best playmakers to be out of game. If OL cannot hold up on their own, I expect Stoops to stick more with 3 TE sets and ride the running game as far he can ride it, with a few deep shots per game.

On a positive note, we have a very deep TE room.
