"I Think Tyler Ulis Will be in the NBA Next Year"

If he plays like everyone anticipates he is definitely an NBA talent and will go at the end of the season. His height has not been an issue.

If Ulis has a great year I can see him going after this year. As others have said he probably may not grow anymore but who knows. Wish the best for him.

Yep. UK fans should preper for Ulis to leave if he puts up stats like 8-10 ppg, 5+ assist, and shoots around 40% from 3. Dude ain't getting any bigger or more athletic. In the NBA you have unlimited resources and time to work on your game and aren't limited to 20 practice hours during the season. Size is his biggest limitation, but that could possibly be outweighed by his great skills as a point guard.
Yyyyyup. I don't see why some people swear he's going to stay 3 or 4 years just because his upside is "limited". It didn't stop Doron Lamb or either Harrison. Kids play for Cal because they get to the league ASAP. When they get their draft stock as high as possible they bolt. Ulis may or may not accomplish that this year but if he leads the team the way we THINK he will, I see little chance he stays.

There's no way Ulis is in the NBA next year. Cal is using coach and recruiting speak.

"I can get 5'8, under athletic, point guards into the NBA in 2 years. Hello 2016 class"

I love Ulis and think he's exactly what we need, but it's not happening.

I need paypal accounts and wagers.

the ulis fanboys wont like hearing that.

step 1: denial - he is just 5'8"
step 2: bash, i mean critique his performance
step 3: blame cal for pushing him out

I think our top six will leave after this year. The only one that I think might come back is Lee, but I think he goes ahead and pulls the trigger.

I think we sign five players:

Point (Fox or Simmons)
Two Wings (from Monk, Bridges, Alkins, and Simmons)
Two Bigs (Killeya-Jones and one of Giles, Adebayo, Gabriel, Bolden, Maker, Leaf, or Allen)

Of course, as we have learned this season, there might be a surprise player or two that ends up coming here (like Murray and Humphries), but I think those are the big targets right now.

[laughing]

1. I love Ulis
2. I never bash his performance
3. I don't believe Cal really pushes anyone out.

On the flip, you have the other side of that coin. The Ulis "metrics don't matter here" fanboys.

Step 1. denial - even though they've never seen a player like him get drafted that young, they think with Cal it's possible (could be right)
step 2. completely ignore all the things he couldn't do right now on an NBA court.
step 3. Blame a strong draft on his staying till his junior year.

haha. just messin in with ya. I got a laugh out of your post.

Ulis never has an off game Boston and always plays great...according to some on here, so he should be a lock to be a lotto pick by their logic.

And in all seriousness to everyone, I love Ulis, but some people on here are a bit delusional with his game.

LOL I seriously can't believe anyone is naive enough to believe he comes back . He will be the best or at worst 2nd best pg in the league and height don't matter much in terms of pgs.

I think Tyler leaves... Having said that your comments makes little sense. He'll be the best or at worst the second best pg in the league? That doesn't add up... He won't be an all star. But he can be a solid pro.

He's gotta be talking about the SEC. I assume he means either Ulis or Murray will be the best PG in the league and the other will be 2nd. He could have worded it better though. I don't equate "league" to "country" so surely he does not mean in the whole NCAA.

The biggest reason Ulis may go after this season is because of the weaker PG class set to enter the draft. The year after will have a loaded class at the position. It would be smart to capitalize on that if he has the opportunity.

His stock will likely reach its peak at the end of this season. He isn't likely to improve his stock by staying another year.

The NBA cares a ton about height and especially PG height. They mostly draft only on potential which is athleticism combined with their height

I don't think it's a lock, but I think it's possible. If Cal believes this to be true, so do I. Ulis is 5'8 and may never grow another inch and usually when talking about the NBA and that height, I Wouldn't like his odds of being drafted, but with this kid, I think it will happen sooner than later. I expect this kid to be even better as a SO with the improvement over the summer and finally being the starter/leader of the team. Let's hope we are right. If Cal can get a 5'8 guy drafted to the NBA in 2 years, it would be amazing and Help us become point guard U. Then again, we kind of are already. As well as SG U, PF U, C U. We just need to start locking down the elite sfs.

Looking forward to watching Ulis this year, I'll wait to see how he plays with the new players on this years team before I say he may jump to the NBA, either way he's gonna do what benefits him the most:popcorn:

While I tend to agree with your point, I'm not sure why folks keep saying kids like Ulis can't improve their stock. Developing better skills is one way to improve stock. It happens all the time, so why the definitive tone?

If Earl Boykins at 5'5 can play in the NBA and stick around for like 13 seasons than so can Tyler Ullis. No he might not go first round and he will likely never be an NBA starter. (Starting PG is the deepest position for quality in the league right now) But as other posters have astutely pointed out his measurable's aren't likely to improve by staying at UK for a couple more seasons. BUT effective bench point guards are very valuable in the NBA. Just look at how long somebody like Luke Ridinour has found a place in the NBA. Heck Kendall Marshall just got a multiyear contract from the 76ers and Ullis is likely a better shooter today than Marshall and isn't far behind him in court awareness and passing ability. Playing a position that traditionally generates scoring like SG, SF and PF it's harder to make NBA rosters because everybody at that level can score. But NBA teams always seem to need more quality back up PG's and C's. (I'm looking at you Matthew Delvadova)

A lot of people underestimate his shot. Everyone knows he's smart, has great court awareness, and is a great passer, but other than the more knoweligable fans, few talk about him shooting over 40% from behind the arc, and I think his shot gets better as time goes on and he'll shoot lights our when he has more time to work on his shot.

Those who think it's crazy and he won't go need to think about the fact that one GM who ask all 8 of our players who hoped to be drafted that if they had to go to war with one player in that team, who would it be, and all 8, including the twins said there's no one that they rather go to war with than Tyler! I guarantee that every NBA GM has heard that, and that that made a hugeimpression on them. I know it did me.

The NBA cares a ton about height and especially PG height
They care about PG height the least of all positions.

Ideal PG height is 6'4 in the NBA, but a ton of the starters and backups are 6'1 or shorter.

The other ideal heights are something like 6'6, 6'8, 6'10, 7'.. How many high level contributors do you know at those other positions are 3+ inches shorter than the ideal? Not that many.

I used the word "likely" twice. How is that a "definitive tone?"

If Cal is saying he expects Ulis to be in the league, why is their an argument?

Can't we just accept it or are some just obsessed with thinking they know more about this than Cal does?

Ulis may come back, but right now Cal is working with the idea in mind that Ulis will be gone after this season. Given that he talks with Ulis every day and knows his intentions and he knows what the NBA wants in a player, then shouldn't we trust his judgement on the matter?

Unless something unforeseen happens, we should be prepared for his departure after this season.

Cal sees it happening, why can't we? Are we fans smarter than the coach that has already put a zillion guys in the league?

I would suspect it's because not everything he says comes to fruition. He told recruits that at the end of 2014 season, UK would lose 6 or 7 guys. UK lost 2 guys that summer. Sometimes these things just don't go according to plan.

I give it a 30% chance he goes after this year. He's still 5'8..
Calipari is recruiting Fox, Simmons, Monk, all 3 of whom see themselves as point guards. Of course he is pushing the idea that Ulis will leave. I don't have to be Einstein to figure that 1 out. LOL! Ulis will be back.
