I really feel sorry for Malik Monk

I live in the DFW Area and there are a ton of Arkansas fans here. Absolutely one of the worst fan bases in college basketball. They came into the SEC thinking they were going to dominate and got a rude awakening which makes them worse. Just can't stand the fact that they can't compete with UK in basketball.
They had a nice little run about 20 years ago and have been living off of that and Wal-mart money ever since....they like IU and little brother are UK wanna be's. I don't think when Damion Harris committed to Ala. to play football that our fan base acted this way. I understood he wanted to play for the best.....good grief Hawg fans.....you lost to Akron last night.

Y'all are worried some dude's gonna come up and try to fight him? LMAO. Malik Monk is a 6'4 freak of nature athletically. Among the people who care down there. I doubt there's to many dumb asses from Arkansas that could take him. Monk would open a can of whoop as on some fools if they came up to him like that. He;s tough. He can handle himself
Thst would not help Monk's situation one bit. And it doesn't really matter how big you are, if there's 4 of em you have no shot.
But nevertheless, he would be the one that looked bad in that situation.

I've been reading some of the reactions to Malik Monk's signing with Kentucky today and these are some of the nastiest things and most negative comments I've seen. I mean, you'd think he joined ISIS or something. An Arkansas sportscaster told him he better move out of the state.

The sad thing is, he's got to play a basketball season around these people now. I think I might be fearful of some kind of attack from these people. They are serious and they hate this kid now.

So what is it with Arkansas fans? I remember the way they treated Archie Goodwin when he came to UK. When we went to Fayetteville that year, they booed him from the time he got off the bus. He grew up there and they treat him like a real enemy because he's going somewhere that can help him realize his dreams? I guess I'll never get it.

One thing is sure, if you're a great high school player in Arkansas, the best thing to do may be to just move out of that state.

The other issue here is that these fans are simply not realistic. Arkansas is not gonna win a title anytime soon. They have a good team about once every 10 years, if that. If he could have played with the guys they had last season, it might have made a difference, but next year the cupboard is bare. What do they expect of him? Just come languish in obscurity for a year and hope someone notices? Oh well. He's going to be treated terribly this season. I hate it for him. His high school should get security personnel to stay with him.

Kentucky fans are crazy but these Arkansas people are scary.

Years of sleeping with farm animals has generated a whole new strain of STD's down there. Ever watch Walking Dead? They hate Ky. for stealing their pig. But the sad part is, they think they now have to kill the pig for not committing suicide.

I lived in Plano,Texas north of Dallas back in the 70's,Arkansas fans were heavy in that area back then. They were some of the smuggest, most asinine people with huge egos I ever met even then.
I only wish they had kept Eddie Sutton,he caused no end of grief at UK.

a) ALL FANBASES, including ours, have these idiots, so take it easy depicting all Hog fans like that.

b) UK never had a chance to recruit Portis, so who knows if we would have or not. Dude committed to Arkansas really early in his career.

c) There's a difference in rooting against a kid, booing when he comes to play you, etc. as compared to being a complete a-hole on social media and doing what that Arkansas broadcaster did. One is part of sports and the other is being a despicable human being.

When Rod Thorn was in high school, the West Virginia legislature passed a resolution declaring him a natural resource and that it was the policy of the state to conserve its natural resources. Those Arkansas folks clearly didn't know how to deal with the situation.

It's not just Arkansas. When Eli Manning didn't go to Ole Miss they went crazy. Note: Eli Manning never lived in Mississippi, he grew up and went to high school in New Orleans. But his father and older brother played at Ole Miss so they felt they had some kind of a claim on him..
Eli went to Ole Miss, Payton went to Tennessee.

Well Monk has the support of BBN and that will last longer than the hatred of some crazies in Arkansas. I hope the UK fans that live close to Monk will go out and support him this year because the poor kid is going to get some serious boos. He made the right decision for a chance at a National Championship and path to the NBA.

So glad he is a Wildcat - what a class!

Arkansas fans, including the ones that come over here during b-ball season, are dog crap. That is all they are. They are an irrelevant program that will never win another national title. UK will hammer them this season, next season, and beyond.

You beat me to it. Just depends on whose ox is gored doesn't it.

This is apples to oranges. Harris strung UK coaches along for months after admitting he knew he was going to Alabama. Monk actually did the right thing, the brave thing, and announced way earlier than he had to do. Big difference is timing in the two cases. I agree that some UK fans acted idiotic (and still do when Harris is mentioned) about the decision.

the oldest brother Cooper went to ole miss as a wide rec. he got sick fresh year and it ended his football playing days. had Cooper not gotten sick Peyton would of gone to ole miss to play with his older brother. they played 2 years in HS together and would of gotten at least 1 year in college.

Archie caught hell. to the point he actually hunted a guy down and told him talk about me all you want but if you say another thing about my boy I'm going to kick your a$$$$$$$.

Eli saved Archie a lot of grief by going to ole miss. So all fan bases have their nuts and go over board

Peyton should have went to Ole Miss so he could have avoided playing FL every year. [laughing]

My wife tells me Midol works for vaginal cramps,

This. It felt like the Harris kid showed up to like every UK game that year to the point that it was like he was already on the team. It was like why would you drive up on your own dime to attend every game then pick Alabama? I understood the decision because it's Alabama, but it was just weird that he kept showing up at games when he knew Bama was the pick.

If being loyal to Arkansas is so important to Portis, why didn't he stick around so Monk could've had a better chance at making the tourney there? Because Portis did what was in his best interests just as Monk did.

Being from NJ, this is even more puzzling to me. NJ has talented ballers every year. Do they get forced to go to Rutgers or Seton Hall?

Some of these adults need to get over themselves, and let the kids live.

Even worse is Hillary the Traitor Clinton is from there, the Crimes the Clinton's committed in Arkansas and they revere them like they are human

Yeah I know what you mean, she was head of her class at Yale, that's such a big crime in Arkansas i'm surprised they didn't electrocute her in a faulty sparky electric chair. It's all about keeping the brain cell count low in the Bubba states. Bubba.

It wasn't Peyton's older brother. It was old Archie...his father.
Peytons older brother, Cooper, most definitely played at Ole Miss. Was a very talented wide receiver but has some spine condition or something so he had to quit after his freshman year

[laughing] Oh of course, that one is different.

Once again, all fanbases have their idiots. I actually like most of the Hog fans I've come across.

I was born in Memphis but my family is from Earl Ark. I still have family in West Memphis Ark. I'm sure all you guys have heard about the West Memphis 3. I lived in WM for 3 years went to Maddox elementary and lived in the Apts behind the truck stop were those boys were found.

I still go back and when I say it is the arm pit of America I'm not exaggerating. it's weird they all still listen to heavy metal and dress and act like its 1982. the drugs are just common place. entire families use and live together in this hell hole.

it's right across the bridge from Memphis but it's like another world. I was living in Baltimore MD when the first HBO special came out about the WM3. I was in shock since it had been 4 years since I had been back, but they still lived like 20 years behind. when I say most are mentally challenged that's not an exaggeration either. a lot of inbreeding goes on and abuse. what you get is the type of slow uneducated people you seen in that film.

watch that film again it is a true representation of what the people are like. even the educated once scared the hell out of you. the judge in that case was an embarrassment as was the prosecutor. In all honesty their was not much difference in the so called educated leaders of Ark and the inbreed slow common folk.

I hate going Back their. it really is is a depressing place. almost like the end of the line for most their.

And you think Memphis is a big step up?

Social media is a cesspool. Even some of these young gets kids need the phones yanked and then they need to be taken out back. It's creating a generation of pussies that talk mad ish behind a screen, but can't handle simple task in the real world. I've gotten rid of my Facebook and Twitter and I've felt great without them. I don't want to be a part of it or read what all these young idiots(or older ones) have to say. Judging by the looks of these younger generations, this is going to get worse.

Arkansas has always been a cesspool way worse than UK. They rival schools like NC State, Mizzouri, Memphis etc. they are awful.

Granted we did have some embarrassing fans give Harris hell on social media. But, Monk has been on campus and to Hawg games probably since his middle school AAU days. But, he still did the respectful thing by committing in the Fall signing period and not leave them hanging. Football has only one signing period; thus, it's not like Harris "strung" us along extensively (or purposefully) with a decision.

I'm not one who is close to anyone with Harris. But, I truly believe he did go back and forth with his decision just like Monk did. Like Monk, Harris did what he thought was best for him.

It's true every fanbase has its collection of jerks that harass high school recruits on social media. But, I wonder... Do Arky fans act this way over highly touted football recruits that they lose out on? Do they demand every in-state athlete to "do the right thing"?

The radio guy inadvertently has a brilliant idea. All early-signing, NBA-bound UK commits should just move to Lexington before the season and play for various schools around the city, creating an absolutely amazing high school basketball scene.

Fun idea.

And that Irwin guy would went nuts on the radio is a COMPLETE EFFIN IDIOT and should be fired for some of the comments he made. He is such a hypocrit. To actually say it would have been OK if he had committed to KU or Duke is just hilarious. Does he not realize that they both recruit the exact same player and Duke won the title last year with "1&D". So, it's OK to be "1&D" at Arkansas, Duke, or KU but not UK because we have too many? What? We win those recruiting battles and you dont, so we become the bad guy? Geez, I could go on and on about this idiot. I'd love to call in his radio show to have a nice discussion with him. I just might do that next time he is on. I know I wouldn't get anywhere with him but it would be great entertainment. Lol
Trust me, Mike Irwin is just the tip of the iceberg. Believe it or not, he speaks for thousands of delusional, myopic Hog fans. What he said is known in Kentucky just because that segment was posted to Sound Cloud, but there have been many, many other equally insane rants said on radio around here the last couple of days. Having said that, and having been around Mike Irwin in press boxes down here -- yes, he is an idiot.

Like several have stated, every fan base has it's idiots. Hell, Kirk Herbstreit had to move out of Columbus a few years back because some of the OSU fans didn't like some of the things he said about OSU on TV. Didn't want his family in that environment. And he was a great OSU quarterback. Talk about eating your own.

I wore a Bill Clinton face mask and UK sweat shirt to the SEC tournament a few years ago and was interviewed by the Lexington Tv station. But the rest of the story was how the Arkansas fans were so rude even mean to me. I actually was a little concerned for my safety at some of the comments made by Arkansas fans. They are very serious about their basketball and I love them for it.

Read a lot about the case and watched several documentaries . Who do you and the people from that area think killed the boys ?

I love UK and sports in general. But it's a hobby for me. It doesn't define me or influence my self esteem.

Some people take this sh*t wayyyyyy too seriously.
