The two games we’ve seen, so far in 2023, were both dominant Kentucky performances in comparison to our near loss to Chattanooga in 2021, our most recent 10 win season.

Offensively, the little things have slowed us, and smaller schools typically pitch their best when they get a chance.

There is a thread (or more than one) blaming slow starts on Stoops’ influencing the offense. The problem with that opinion is that we’ve actually seen us stress passing. And Stoops might well be influencing that!

I look for more cohesion at Vandy and smooth sailing when we hit the heart of the conference.

We always play down to the level of our competition. Some things from the defense have been positive, our mid range passing has been better than last year. I don't think Leary will take as many sacks as Levis did last year.

I believe we will take control this Saturday and keep it, maybe get the #2 QB some snaps. My biggest short term concern is that we win the next 2 and get too full of ourselves going into the UF game(something we have been prone to do after a few wins)

I think the jury hasn't even gotten to the jury room on this team as of yet. Let's figure out who Davis' back-up is going to be, get a rotation set with the O-line. I believe our receivers are good enough to do the job we need them to do.

Granted we have started more slowly than most expected but a 4-0 start is still likely and the 5th game is put up or shut up at home

I still expect to start out 5 and 0. I still expect losses to UGA, Alabama and TN. I still feel SC and MSU games will determine if it's a season like last year that's disappointing or a potential successful 9 and 3 season with a shot at 10 wins after a bowl win.

Long story short, the lackluster performance against EKU is meaningless.

I've been disappointed in how we've played, but given our athletes and staff, I still maintain that our ceiling is high. I said 12 wins were possible before our first game, but given the issues with the secondary and lackluster performance from WRs, I think 10 is our ceiling. If we continue playing undisciplined, selfish football, the ceiling goes way down.

If WRs quit dropping the rock and giving up on routes, and the DBs can come up to speed then I think we're in a lot better shape. I think 12 wins are way more unlikely now, but still possible. Call me crazy, but I believe in both Coen and White. The dream season just might not be in the cards this year.

We are undefeated. LSU is not. Bama is not. Florida is not. 8 other SEC teams are still undefeated. This is football, so it is a survival test. It is a fair point to say we have not played anyone yet. But there is a new OC and 9 new transfers in our 2 deep. Reality is that OOC games are prep for the SEC. Our players know what is at stake. I expect improvement this week. We should beat Vanderbilt and Florida. If we do, then we will be on schedule.

Solid post. I concur.

Duh, you do know that EKU gave up 66 points to Cincinnati and led UK until the middle of the 3rd quarter?? I think you need to look up the definition of dominant performance.

Yes we have a tendency to play down to the level of the cupcakes we face early in the season. We did it last season with Miami, OH and NIU as well. 2017 we played EKU almost as equally as badly as we did last week, down to the final score. We generally right the ship against one of the cupcakes too though, and I think Akron under the lights will be that chance.

What we really need is to come away from this game feeling better about the direction this team can go. Get rid of the stupid mistakes, play a clean game, come away with a decisive, never in doubt victory and move on to Vandy with confidence and revenge in mind.

Encourage by the talk about building more tempo in the offense (From Stoops!) which will help for sure. Less substituting every play (which I never understood in the first place). I think in todays game there is too much tendency to over think and over scheme a lot of times and not enough lets just line up and play fast and say to the defense we dont have to fool you, we'll beat you with execution, toughness and speed.

Throwing the ball sideline to sideline is not stressing scoring in the passing game. Neither game has even remotely resembled a dominant performance or I'm watching a different game.

It's Week 3. Whatever the reasons for our offensive performances the past two weeks, it's time to light up the scoreboard tomorrow or we've got problems.

He was saying “dominant” in comparison to last years squeaker against UT Chattanooga. Not implying they were dominant in general.
Do you sometimes suspect some did poorly on reading comprehension??

And that squeaker against UT Chattanooga was in 2021, one of our treasured 10 win seasons.

That’s how we get beat by the likes of Vandy.

One of the reasons we always seem to struggle in these games is because the staff treats them like a scrimmage and use them to work on/test stuff. That's fine and all, but I prefer them doing it after we have the game in hand. They prefer doing it before.

Doing it before, as we often see, ends up backfiring and giving the lower team life; creating a struggle. Creating a struggle removed the flexibility to work on things and, in the new 4 game rs rule, removes the opportunity for depth/young guys to get needed reps.

We should run the offense and jump on teams early; not allowing them any hope. Then start having fun by working on stuff and rotating in other guys.
