I’m giving Louisville credit. They played great

ACC or not, they accomplished a ton in Brohm’s first year and took it to our guys. I’m glad we bested them (don’t get me wrong), but they got my respect.
Brohm accomplished a lot this season but can he duplicate this type of season
year in and year out? Being in the ACC it will be easier than when he was in the
Big 10 so we'll have to see. The game was at their place and they were favored
so I tend to think we took it to them.

Wonder how many guys on their roster VM & MS recruited? Perfect example that COACHING MATTERS and it dosen't take 15+ years to get there.

But UK played better and like we thought they would going into this season. Really proud of the effort and teamwork the Cats showed.
I mean we really didn’t. The only thing we did better this game was zero penalties which is obviously a big task and helped in our win. But as far as on field play, defense gave up over 400 yards of offense, Leary was 12-22 passing (54%), we didn’t even manage to break over 300 yards total offense, and gave up numerous 3rd and longs (UofL 9/17 overall on 3rd). Special teams made a play, timely offense, and we were +2 in the turnover department (+1 until last play of game) which was the difference in the game but I don’t feel we played any better against them than we did TN. Florida was our most complete game of the year by a wide margin.

It still comes down to a 6-5 SEC team vs a 10-1 ACC team. Comparable talent, strengths, and abilities which equates to a much closer game than many thought. Only the outcome came down to who was ahead when time ran out.

They were a top 10 team in win-loss totals only.

I think we were pretty evenly matched. They just hadn't had to play anyone other than Notre Dame. They lucked out this season without having to play FSU, Clemson or UNC. Granted the ACC was vastly down overall this season.

Year 2 of The Brohm Era will be a bit more challenging for them and they won't get the same schedule next season.

UK plain just kicked their ass in the 3rd & 4th Quarter.

Think about this stat: Kentucky had one turnover and 0 penalties...that's good, disciplined football.

Louisville wanted this game to get chippy and the Cats kept their composure.

Scrappy bunch, and a pretty good little wide receiver.

I was most impressed with their physical RB from Wisconsin. Wish we had him or someone like him.

I think I heard they had 8 home games, 2 neutral site games, and 2 road games. Not even sure how that’s possible.

Their schedule and how it played out nearly defies any rational explanation. They had an incredibly favorable schedule where they missed every good team in the acc and the decent ones they played were riddled with extremely key injuries at the time. Look at Florida state for yet another example. It's mind-blowing.

Kind of a tough break for them vs UK. On paper, without the nuance, they look like the way better team. But in reality we were the better team and just physically wore them down in the second half. If we played 10 times, we win 7. We played only ok and still won. Even playing only ok, their tds were extremely strained and ours were pretty easy when we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot.

Think we had two penalties that were declined, definitely one.

UK had 2 fumble recoveries in UL territory and returned a kickoff for a TD. UL had an INT for a short field TD. You would not expect the total offense numbers to be comparable in a close game with that kind of field position for UK. UK punted the ball 3 times in the first half, none in the second half. UK scored on every possession in the second half, but one (the INT).

Agreed with all this....you could make the case if not for TO's....UL was clearly the better team.

You do realize UK avg. 6.1 yards per play on offense, right? That’s very good vs a Power 5 opponent… especially on the road.

The failing to gain 300 yards of offense is a little misleading when you only have to run 47 plays to win. Kickoff return for TD. Fumble at midfield. Fumble into opponents red zone. UK had short fields twice that kept the Cats from more yardage.

I don’t think UK played great either, but I was actually pretty happy with the offense in limited snaps. UK also scored on 5/8 offensive series, which is really good considering the rest of the season.

3-9 Pitt road 21-38
3-9 Virginia home 31-24
7-5 Miami "road" 38-31
7-5 Kentucky home 31-38

5 of the 10 wins by 7 pts or less. Lots and lots of good bounces went their way, credit for them taking advantage. The ACC is 5th out of 5 power 5 conferences in 2023. Thanks to the death of the Pac 12 they can move up to 4 next yr.

Satterfield's first team in 2019 had lots of similar close wins and good fortune. The football gods have a way of balancing stuff out, and soon.

I think he meant NC not NC State.

Face it, if the Cards were in the SEC they are an average to below average team this year. And if the Cats had your paltry schedule, they’d be looking at an Orange Bowl bid right now. It is what it is.

Louisville had 3 true road games, 2 Neutral site games and 7 Home Games. Not sure why everyone is stuck on us not playing UNC since UNC finished 7th in the conference one spot below Clemson.

I see what you are doing here, but I think you are focusing on the wrong coach….

This is more of an indictment on Scott Saterfield than anything.

Shows that with just competent coaching it is very easy to win at Louisville and if you are a good coach, which I think all can agree Brohm is, then it is easy to win big at Louisville with a schedule like they had.

It is hard to say COACHING matters while not acknowledging that the Kentucky coaches out coached and beat the team where you are praising for their coaching though.

Face it? I have never argued that point. This year the UofL/UK game was decided in the last 2 minutes of regulation. Quite an improvement over the last four games.

Maybe because they had the best QB in the league who is a projected top 3 pick? Sure they underachieved, but so did Kentucky. The point is UNC was yet another team capable of beating you that you dodged.

UofL beat NCSt 13-10 at their place.

NCSt beat UNC 39-20
NCSt beat Clem 24-17

Of course UofL could have lost to either or both, but just as likely would have won.

1. USF 2. UofL. 3. NCSt 4. GT 5. VT 6. Clem 7. UNC

UofL beat 3, 4 and 5. Dodged 6 and 7. Beat 8, 9 and 10. Will play 1 on Sat.

Clem and UNC were preseason top 3 that didn't meet expectations.
UofL was preseason 8th that finished 2nd. Exceeding expectations.

Didn’t FSU just lose their QB? So basically dodged them too lol. Not that there’s anything y’all can do about that… stuff happens. But it is funny.

Yes, they lost Travis. The backup QB Rodemaker did lead USF to a 23-14 win over UF on Saturday. He also played a full game against UNA the week before. He is not coming in cold and is in his 4th year with game experience every year.

...and there is this headline from last year.

Rodemaker rallies Florida State to 35-31 win at Louisville

But UK played better and like we thought they would going into this season. Really proud of the effort and teamwork the Cats showed.

UL controlled time of possession, had more rushing yards, had more passing yds, 1st downs, 3rd down conversions, etc. I wouldn’t say UK played better.

Uk was very fortunate that UL had fumblitis and credit UK for cashing in on those mistakes.

Big kudos to Brohm and what he did this year.

I think he is going to be a great coach for UL and hope he does well. It's great for the state and rivalry for both programs to be competitive. That may have been one of the most exciting games on TV Saturday. It's always been an underrated rivalry on a national scene. I hope one day it's 2 top ranked 10 win teams and a CFB prime time event.

Explain 1st paragraph please...evenly match? MS in his 11th season vs JB taking over a beleaguered program without a player UK recruited and we win in a nailbiter. Head scratcher for me. Why are we evenly matched?

Amazing to me how many Kentucky fans are smitten with Louisville and falling all over themselves fawning over Brohm. This five game streak no doubt been hard on some of y'all.

Maybe go knit yourselves a red sweater and enjoy a hot cocoa for the ACC championship game, blouses.

I certainly don't wish him luck. DONOT hope he does well.
That said, he's going to be a pain in the a$$ to Stoops. He's an offense First guy and understands cfb the way it's played today not 25 yea rs ago.

We will see in the future. I thought for this game we adjusted well in the second half concerning their offense and played defensively better. From Plummer running on us in the first half to us containing him more in the second half which led to his fumble.

Look at it this way...beating a 10 win, top ranked p5 program makes us look better.

This team, staff, program have a little mojo now going into bowl/offseason.

Iron sharpens iron. CMS and crew can't count on a UL win anymore, they're going to have to get better. CMS is going to have to evolve.
