Huge Yatzee!! (COACH!!)

Keep in mind this is not a "hands on" coaching position but anytime you can get an experienced, long time coach added to the mix it's bound to help. A good sounding board for Stoops.
I hope he takes up the same position during the games as he did the last time he was on staff.

Standing right next to CMS. At the very least in the booth with a headset to communicate directly with the HC.

He is a difference maker in situational decision making.

Looks like Tim Owens left this position (Courtney Love in it before that) after taking a job with the Phoenix Suns according to his LinkedIn

TOS mentioned one of Hood's responsibilities will be working with Eddie Gran on NIL. This position was previously held by Freddie Maggard and Courtney Love.

OK, OK. Just for you.
Is that better or no??
Thanks 😬 That helps eliminate some of the pain of realizing we didn’t score that 5 star defensive end. Wouldn’t want others to feel the same let down from your overly cheerful title ;) Cheers.

I like Dean alot....but he was a good special teams coach and we had our best safety play when he was the safeties coach.

I assume Boulware is doing fine at special teams
But Buffano is pretty much doodie cheeks......If Hood ain't the safety coach...then it's hard to see how he makes a major difference.

Again, this is NOT an "on the field, hands on" position. Pretty much admin all the way.

If you watched any games during those years he was on the sidelines, during crunch time of some of the biggest wins we pulled out Coach Hood and CMS were having a lot of one on one conversations.

I believe CMS trusts Coach Hood's experience as a HC enough to listen to his advice. Gives him another perspective than just falling back on his own comfort zone when the game is on the line.

I think this get will be more beneficial than a 5 star DE.

We’ll have to disagree on that. If he was going to be an actual coach maybe I’d agree with you. Hard to say what type of impact this will have. I could certainly be wrong. I do really like the guy.

This staff, non-coaching, position has been held previously by:

Freddie Maggard - no football staff experience

Courtney Love - left to take grad assistant job

Tim Owen - left for a job at Phoenix Suns

…this position has lots of crossover with other Director positions on the staff. It’s ideal for old farts who will stick around because it’s not good enough for younger guys building their career to stay long.

For those curious here is all the staff positions just scroll down to coaching section.

So then it's nothing burger to me.....
Just because it is an admin position that is not supposed to be an "on the field, hands on" coach, doesn't mean he can't coach the coaches.

And God knows we have some young inexperienced coaches who need a lot of mentoring in several areas, starting from game prep to game management and even how to administer discipline to players who are not mentally mature enough to act like an adult during games.

And a few old coaches still have some learning to do also.

Invaluable addition to our team to hopefully help fix some of our obvious coaching issues that keep costing us games we should win.

Any chance we go back to aussie punters with Dean back max Duffy was here because of Dean

Correct. Director of player development is a non-coaching position on college football staffs. The job description fluctuates depending on the program, but it typically includes mentorship, perhaps with administrative roles mixed in. They are not allowed to instruct players or recruit off-campus or call prospective student-athletes, according to the NCAA. But staff can contact a recruit via mail or email or its equivalent on social media, such as a Twitter direct message.
