How on earth did Mich St get this far?

Both these games were pretty bad. Looks like a cakewalk for Duke IMO. Houston will slow them down but still can’t score enough. Auburn and Florida won’t be able to defend Duke well enough. The only way Duke loses IMO is if they go as ice cold as Bama did.

Iz.zo.s teams get the benefit of the doubt more often than not. Always dangerous in March because of his coaching and his reputation.

The thread title is a question one could just as easily ask from watching our performance Friday night, or Tennessee’s today, or Alabama’s last night, etc.

Nearly everyone’s season ends on a bad note.

Maybe if they stopped CONSTANTLY kicking it back out.......absorb the contact, feast off the charity stripe.

I think Auburn can take em. I was kinda shocked Alabama got thrashed so bad.

They drive to basket. Rebound. Play great defense

Michigan State basketball reminds of the old Penn State football teams. Played good-great defense, could make you turn the ball over, solid line play, then would make you pay if you didn't capitalize on your own offensive opportunities. Similar to the style of gameplan that Stoops prefers but hasn't had since Coach Schlarman passed away.

Not to mention they ended up losing by only six in a game that was pretty close to a road game against a team that has a very good argument for being the best in the country. Threads like this are stupid. They ended the regular season on a 7 game winning streak, and five of those games were against ranked teams. The two that weren't were road games at Illinois and Iowa.

Michigan St. was a very good team this year.

I both love and hate that style. It's great if you catch a team on an off night, but if a team is very good like say Duke or Bama or Auburn- and they don't make too many mistakes? They'll just beat the hell out of you.

Hasn't won a title in a quarter of a century. Consistent alright.

He's done pretty good at Michigan state. It isn't UK or Duke. He has 8 final fours but hasn't had one since 2019. I think he needs to retire soon. Michigan state isn't some national title powerhouse though so I'm not surprised he only has the 1 there.

Hell, cal only won 1 here n 15 seasons. At UK.

Yep. Consistently good enough to run a good team out of the tourney if they aren't playing their best. Like I said, similar to those PSU football teams that weren't sniffing titles, but did well in bowl season for a good long while.

Izzo just hasn't been landing the 2-3 great players he needs to finish the post-season with a title.

I too thought he'd be retiring after the season, with the way the Spartans were playing early on. They didn't look very good then, and everyone could see it. I don't watch much bigten basketball after conf play starts, so the early impression was it.

It's just he gets talked about like he's K, or Rupp or even Williams. He's no where close.

I think it's just because of his longevity and the fact that he's been at once school for so long. If you took a snapshot of the top 10 current coaches at the end of the '90s, '00s, '10s, and most like '20s he'd always be listed. Any other coach who you can that for are the K, Rupp, Williams type coaches so he gets lumped in with them.

They play hard and when Akins/Richardson make shots they were tough. Fidler too.

The issue I've had with the Big Ten is they beat 2 teams that were under a 10 seed the entire 2025 Tournament. Michigan beat A&M thanks to the jackass that is Buzz Williams, and Michigan St beat Ole Miss the other night in a game the Rebels had them up against it until last 2 minutes.

So the entire Conference won against low seeded (10 and higher) teams and 2-8 when they had to play teams who were seeded higher. Remember this performance when the media talks of them getting their Entire League in the NCAA's next year.

Also Izzo has been very outspoken and arrogant this year about what his program and he are about. Fine-you just went home. Now he'll have more time to tell all the other Big Ten teams how to operate their programs and how to not ever make any firings......and don't worry we'll all see him next August/September at a Michigan St home FB game where he bogarts the coverage for the FB Coach and talks his usual nonsense. Just a tired ACT from a diminutive little troll. Studio crew mentioned the other night how poorly Michigan St played in opening rounds but benefitted from easy draw--they were fortunate against Ole Miss and fortunate again today that Auburn didn't beat them by 20. Good riddance to him and a great day for me is when the Big Ten is out of the NCAA Tournament. Can't stand that Conference.
