Here's how Jaxson Hayes went from 125 pounds & more into football to a legit 6-10 with a Kentucky basketball offer.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Carl Kremer had a good idea about what would happen after he met Jaxson Hayes.

Kremer, the basketball coach and interim principal at Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati), predicted Hayes would grow and grow and grow.

That was three years ago, when Hayes, the son of Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes and former Drake All-American basketball player Kristi Hayes, was 6 feet tall and weighed 125 pounds. Now, a senior, he's 6-foot-10, nearly 200 pounds and still developing physically and as a basketball player.

Hard to envision this kid is even ready for UK next year. Doesn't seem like he has really taken off yet and who knows if he will?

Would love to land a kid with that kind of talent/upside who knows he's not immediately ready. Come in, grow, lift, learn, adjust, improve, and then show what you can do.

It's not like it's taking a flier on a kid who might not be good or a total shot in the dark. It really seems like more a matter of when than if with him.

And at the rate he's going, it's not like he'd have to redshirt as a freshman. Give us 5-6 minutes off the bench on a loaded team, play against monsters in practice every day, let Kenny Payne get his hands on him--he could contribute right away in a small role on his current trajectory, especially by this time next season.

The quote that stuck out to me was when Kremer (Hayes' HS head coach) said "to be honest and Jaxson knows this, his game is not developed right now at this moment to be a Kentucky player. The intriguing thing about him is his upside." It was encouraging to see that Hayes knows he still has a long way to go and just getting the Kentucky offer isn't enough.

I just imagine a player this raw getting enough playing time at Kentucky to develop into a contributing player.

Top recruits, more developed, are recruited every year.

Yeah, I should tell Cal how to recruit, but I am scratching my head on this one a little.

From the article:
"Potential is a form of currency in sports"

So true...... but unlike currency, you have no idea of what the denomination you are getting.

1. If all we lose next year is Knox, Diallo and Vanderbilt...I'll even throw in Wenyen....
2. And we for sure need spots for Quickley, Barrett, Zion and probably another big that is ready next year immediately.
3. We also have two open spots right now

We have a ride to slot for Jaxson and let him develop w/o needing him next year IMO. I'm all for this signing and having him around for years to come.

Absolutely agree. Must have a few multi-year players to go along with star one and dones

Guys like Derek Willis and Hawkins were very solid parts of last 2 years...especially last year. We need to supplement every other class of studs with some guys that are OK with college for 3-4 years.

That is the recipe. And if you don't do that, well then you had better get the top 1-2 players in the class every year to have a chance.

No problem with a guy like Hayes if we get williamson and Bol and keep a guy or 2 like SKJ, Gabriel or maybe Washington.

His videos show a very long fluid and athletic big man ala davis. Hes not davis, not even close. Similar measurables but its the mobility he has that i like. Grew so much so fast but somehow skipped the awkwardness and moves on the court better than most 6'10 17 year olds ive seen. As someone else said, come here. Give us 5 fouls and a couple minutes year one and grow from there. With your physical gifts and an open mind to learn while also having patience while your peers may be more ready from day 1 will send you far when youre under Cal's wing.
