How is MB handcuffing UK with NIL?

This is sort of the problem, but not quite. There was a draft set of NIL rules developed by the NCAA last year that prohibited boosters from forming collectives whose sole purpose was to induce players to sign with their favorite school. Some Athletic Directors (like Barnhart) have decided to play by those rules, even though the rules were never published.

It’s just one of those things where, if the NCAA eventually decides to issue and enforce those rules, UK won’t be in trouble. But Barnhart wants proof that the NCAA is not planning to enforce those rules before giving permission for UK boosters to form a collective and start buying players.
And if the incompetent NCAA takes two or three years to act LIKE THEY NORNALLY DO, where does that leave UK? Will they give mitch a cookie for being a good boy?.

That is the big legal question to me. If the ncaa doesn't put a foot down on it then college sports are done and we'll end up with naia type college sports and a minor league type pro team deal. What these kids don't seem to understand is that they'll lose millions of eyeballs by not being linked to a college. That will cost everyone after them tons of money. 100,000 people show up to watch Michigan football but you probably won't get 15000 to watch the detroit bombers play the pittsburgh steamers.... and nobody is watching that crap on tv.
Excellent post.

This is it. Mitch is trying to keep the wild wild west chaos from happening by sticking to the intent of the NIL to begin with, and now you see the NCAA and eveybody else coming around to his side as well as they can already see the out of control nature of things starting to happen sooner than they thought.
So, what has the NCAA done so far? Have they punished Duke, Kansas, City college, etc etc yet?

"The collective" isn't the problem to me. To me, it's that many schools are using the money to recruit rather than recruiting THEN waiting until a kid signs to see him negotiate and get endorsements. The schools that did it backwards are hoping they get forgiveness, and likely will except with fines. They aren't going to care.

Kentucky knows it would be the scapegoat program that got taken to the woodshed if they did this, and fans of the program should know that, too. UCLA paid players, bragged about it, and the Ncaa did nothing. UK was suspected of it and got hammered. UT and others were in a bidding war for a DL, barely slapped on the wrist while UK got hammered over $200 in money orders and gloves.

Mitch isn't stupid and people here need to stop playing dumb.
If he isn't stupid then why did he put most of the money that FOOTBALL earned into his minor sports until football went kaput from lack of support in 2012 and 2013? When if he had given part of the money football earned back to football we wouldn't have lost 20,000 season ticket holders AND bowl games for FIVE straight years, AND we would have had MORE money for the minor sports. How did you enjoy the TWO two win seasons?

Paying high school students as a recruiting inducement violates KY state law.

Per SB 6:
A person or entity shall not give or promise compensation for the use of the name, image, or likeness of a current or prospective student athlete to recruit or induce the athlete to enroll at any Kentucky institution.
Alabama and Texas Law says, A person or entity shall give or promise compensation for use of NIL of any player athlete to induce them to go to said institution. Any AD at said institutions who bucks this great system will be fired post haste.

A very, very stupid law that would allow NIL if inducement to enroll at any OOS school!!

Yes. Have you been here for the 10 years since?
Yes. I was here for the unbelievable influx of MONEY from the OTHER SEC football programs with ADs that weren't asleep. The money that saved mitch from total disaster.

How much money do you think losing 20,000 season ticket holders and their contributions cost us, the FIVE seasons without a bowl game, the TWO two win seasons, the long post on here by fans saying they would never contribute anything to football as long as he was in charge of spending the money?

Dp you think our FIVE years without a bowl game contributed to the huge TV contract due to SEC FOOTBALL?

He improved the NONE_REVENUE sports with the money FOOTBALL earned when if he had put a SMALL AMOUNT of the money football earned back into football we wouldn't have had the two disastrous seasons AND would have saved the money the disaster caused us to lose. He would have had MORE money for his non-revenue sports. Can some of you bean counters estimate how many HUNDREDS of millions not supporting the MONEY COW for a DECADE cost us?

You choose your heroes and I will choose mine, and any football fan that chooses mitch is stupid. There was a definite cause for the trauma fans went through and it is pretty clear who the culprit that caused it was. If you have a working brain, name ONE thing above the bare necessities done for football by our AD in his first decade on the job. Meanwhile with minimum support in 2010 football cleared $18M while the best BB program in the land with EVERYTHING cleared about $5M.
