"The collective" isn't the problem to me. To me, it's that many schools are using the money to recruit rather than recruiting THEN waiting until a kid signs to see him negotiate and get endorsements. The schools that did it backwards are hoping they get forgiveness, and likely will except with fines. They aren't going to care.
Kentucky knows it would be the scapegoat program that got taken to the woodshed if they did this, and fans of the program should know that, too. UCLA paid players, bragged about it, and the Ncaa did nothing. UK was suspected of it and got hammered. UT and others were in a bidding war for a DL, barely slapped on the wrist while UK got hammered over $200 in money orders and gloves.
Mitch isn't stupid and people here need to stop playing dumb.
