How does the “Clap for Cal” fan base feel?

Cal did what he was paid to do tonight. He won a basketball game. I don’t hold that against him. Had he done that more at UK lately he would still be at UK. But the boo’ing just fed some pretty good players ammo to play harder than they normally do. I’m not saying applause would have changed anything tonight but booing did us no favors either.

I’m shocked that people think booing all of a sudden made these guys jumpshots better .
Then what did improve their jump shots? The magnitude of the moment juiced up the former players and booing was part of that.
We actually made it all about Cal and the former players and it seem like it freezed out the current players. They did not seem in the moment at all minus the first minutes if the game.

You think DJ Wagner wasn’t motivated enough to play good all year ? You think beating UK was more motivation than improving his NBA stock?

Not to mention they would have been fired up for this game without the boos. Blaming the fans for this is crazy.

I think booing DJ, Ado, Z. contributed to them playing out of their minds. And hats off to them to rising to the occasion with a chip on their shoulder. I've been critical of Amari, but he showed up as the only dog on our team last nite who wanted to make a statement. Everybody on Ark wanted to make a statement.
Ado already said he was thinking about this game before he even made it to Arkansas. They’ve prepped for this all yr. I don’t think booing made those shots fall, but it made it sweeter for them.

I’m among those who has never bought into the “one season a Cat always a Cat” delirium, and never liked the Calipari hire from the word go. Attempting to shame the portion of the UK fan base that was happy to finally see Calipari leave Lexington is weak sauce IMO. If some within RR want to act like they were your prodigal sons last night, by all means live in that make believe world.

I'm not blaming the fans for Arkansas playing well but I still think too much emphasis was put on Arkansas.
Nothing about last night was good. Kentucky petered out hard at home...when does that ever happen? Arkansas played like the home team...something was off and I think it was all the negativity

How does the “boo our past players “ fan base feel? Way to motivate them even more
I’m sure booing them really motivated them to shoot better!! Give me a break and think about what you post before posting it. Maybe if we boo our own players it will motivate them to shoot and play better defense. Is that what you are saying we should do going forward?

I always played better when I was mad because I focused better. Instead of the fear of failure, I stayed angry and there was less clutter in my head. People even commented on it. “Dont get him mad or he will beat you!”

A great example is Djokivic. He eggs the booing on and feeds off of it.

As much as you might not like Cal, Cal was still one of the best hires in the history of this program. He brought UK basketball out of the sewer and made it the coolest brand in college basketball. If that hire was not made, we could easily been an IU brand. People forget all the final fours, forget how he kept UK the winningest program in college basketball, and forget how he kept Louisville in check during a time when Louisville had one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game. This does not mention what he did for the people of the state.
Love him or hate him he will go down as one of the best!
1. Rupp
2. Rick (only because of where the program was when he was hired)
3. Cal (argument could be made he is #2)

Thiero, Wagner and Z left here for Arkansas with the coach they knew rather than stay at UK with the coach they didn't. Booing them was to declare that their decision was stupid and not deserving of respect. That would have motivated me and it obviously motivated them big time. The booing was classless and disrespect is never a good strategy in sports, business or life.

The commonwealth of Kentucky does not unlimited resources. In an era where recruiting and Nil money matters, where influence media matters,, keeping Cal and his boys from nba close to the program is more important than cooling off and booing them,

Pitino had convinced me we should cheer him to show the strength of our classiness. That game was too rich for my blood anyway, but before Rick chimed in, if I had been in the stands I would have just stayed silent, not booed but not cheered. Rick’s take convinced me.

So when I heard us boo I was kind of disappointed we were booing.

Then when we got throttled I was disappointed AF we had booed.

We are BBN. We should always be high class and high achievement. Not the other way around. That **** is for IU.

Hell, even in a lot of the wins our opponents shot well. We just managed to outscore them.
A lot of our wins could have easily been losses.
Anytime our opponent can match us from 3, we are in danger of losing because the 3 point shot is the only thing we do at high level.

How did they act? Don’t have twitter btw so just curious
Tyty basically burned his bridge with BBN for life with crap he said last night. Toppin, Mintz, Reed and Hagans all sided with Cal.

Basically it was all the losers over the last 5 years that were the reason his ass is gone to begin with that were running their mouth. Bunch of g leaguers and never has beens.

I mean I didn't really care. Cheer if you wanted, boo if you wanted but I'm unclear why would the result of the game have anything to do with this lol.

The people that were in the cheer camp were cheering out of respect for what he did the past 15 years. Not because they didn't want to win the game.

Booing Cal and the Hogs was going to happen. From a personal perspective, I wouldn't have done that. I felt as though it were karmic in nature. We booed them, they took it as the negative motivation that totally offset an entire season of negative, non-productive action on the court. Cal used it to his advantage. The Hogs played so far above their heads, it was easy to see. Nothing even shocking about it.

We would have been much better served to have taken that away, keep it classy, and at the worst - silence - would have been preferable to booing lustily - especially treating the players that way - it absolutely did play a motivating factor for them to play much much better. How one cannot see that is beyond me.

We did not have Butler, that alone would have completely changed the game. We're banged up, sure they are missing Fland, but we need to get healthy. We need all hands to be the best version of the team we ARE. Pope didn't make adjustments that might have changed the course of the game. Was he going to use a zone when they are red hot from outside, when they haven't been in every other game? I think not. So I'm not ripping him because he didn't find a way to offset everything against us going in and during the game.

I'm not making excuses, just pointing out some things for perspective.

It stings, but as far as I'm concerned, the SEC this year is an incredible league to play in, and this journey for our program has been FAR AND AWAY better off with Coach Pope than it was in the past 5, 6 years, with Can't Coach CAL. Do those of you who love CCC think he magically did something yesterday (and yesterday alone) that resulted in his team shooting THAT much better ? Sure, our defense leaves much to be desired, but that wasn't why they made the shots.

They wanted to because of the narrative against CCC and the booing helped to motivate the HELL out of those kids.

It's pretty simple. I wouldn't want to go back to Cal and his BS no matter what. I moved on.

Kentucky fans should as well, we will get Cal and his Hogs teams, maybe this helps to restore a bit of the rivalry aspect for us to give US a little more motivation the next time we play them.

There's no way that Arkansas team remotely reproduces that kind of performance. They won't make the NCAA tournament. So for those of you who can't let CCC go, put on red and go be Hog fan. See where you end up at seasons end! LOL !

Would those of you CCC nut huggers want to miss ANOTHER NCAA tournament with him at the helm ? Or another futile gesture in bowing out to a massively embarrassing upset?

THAT is embarrassment, when you have all those NBA players and a high seed and a HOF coach that underachieves time and again - FOR YEARS !!! So for last night, losing was not an embarrassment, but the booing helped to make it look so. It really wasn't. It stings. That's ALL. There is your narrative.

Move on, buck up, head held high. Keep the faith.

Go Big Blue !

It's the opposite. If opposing fans booed our players it may motivate them

How does Matt Jones feel posting videos all over X declaring the victory of our fanbase over John Calipari then getting blown out by John Calipari? How do all the fans who have arrogantly been strutting around about Calipari’s decline feel? Let’s think about all the bulletin board fodder our fanbase gave these people.

But, yeah, clapping is what did it.

This loss ****ing sucks in every way.

I don’t think one thing has anything to do with the other. A few people golf clapping didn’t make our defense look terrible. It has been that way.

My bad that wasn’t aimed at you I meant in general I have seen some people blame the booing . I mean for the most part our defense wasn’t good and yes I know Arkansas was a poor shooting team coming in even off open shots .

But I do think bulletin board material motivation is overrated at times in sports

We were beaten because the other team was totally prepared for anything we tried to do. We had the effort, the fight, but we were not prepared to play that game against Arkansas. Williams is the only one that played physical basketball last night. Pope gave us a stinker.
