With Beck I think they crush the Irish, but that option is gone. Does this give the Irish a huge leg up? Is this why the selection committee or whatever seeded this playoff so poorly?

It sure gives ND the most help they could've otherwise gotten, and should make the viewership perhaps the highest of this year's playoff.

What are your thoughts, @Grumpyolddawg ?

Georgia has trailed in 9 games this season so not like they have been a juggernaut with Beck.

I'd imagine they want the new guy to take care of the ball and let the D hold down ND and win a lower scoring affair.

Beck has been so inconsistent this year i wouldn't know which one was going to show up. If the good Beck showed up the offense was productive, if the bad one showed we would be lucky to score. I guess that is a cop out of an answer. If the good Beck was there I think we win. With Stockton, who the team likes, we will be limited offensively hoping to limit mistakes, we scored winning TD in SEC running the I, we may go old school and run 80%.

I would think Stockton is better honestly but no idea if he will be consistently good yet. Georgia underperformed all year with Beck.

Is the defense going to be healthy for this game? If so, I don't think it will be all that close, UGA by 10 or more.

ND looks legit. Georgia qb who has been their bane at the same time saving grace is out. Kirby is the best coach in the game imo... it's going to be a coin flip game.

I’ve always been of the opinion that dual threat QBs, as long as they can respectably throw the ball, create tension for the defense that a QB like Beck cannot. I think it’s still too early to say how Gunner will do in obvious passing situations. The kid has talent, but these games are awfully tough to be cutting your teeth on.

Pretty interesting to see both uga and bama struggle slip to a degree solely because of qb. As i mentioned in another thread, the b10 especially (and some others) are going to insane nil lengths to buy skill position guys.

Will that force sec teams back into pursuit of a dominant ground game? I certainly think that's the best bet for all but the top spending sec schools.

Notre Dame is stout against the pass (ranked 2nd), I think running the football is the key. Young QB in a HUGE game makes me a little nervous. But the kid can / should use his legs, he brought them back against Texas and played the whole 2nd half. He was 12/16 for 76 yards, but did make the one huge mistake throwing the pick 6. Call fairly conservative passing plays, use screens to the backs, counter the ND pass rush / aggressive blitzes, and use several QB designed runs along with a healthy diet of running from Etienne and the other backs.

Notre Dame struggles throwing the ball also. This will be a quick game time wise, lots of running plays, low scoring. The team that makes the less mistakes wins.

I believe UGA will go conservative and rely on their defense. If UGA can get a couple of turnovers, I look for them to win a low scoring game.

How their defense plays will determine the outcome, I think. The offense has to just not turn it over, score about 24 pts, and sustain some drives to give the defense rest. I expect the Dawgs to give up a score early, make some adjustments and then ride out a tough battle.

UGA 24 - ND 13 is my guess

ND hasn’t faced a team as good as Georgia since Northern Illinois
You're right but as others pointed out they are physical and sound (like we used to be!) and they will be a hard out because of that I think. Penn St is looking the same way, they just play hard, fast and physical right now. Neither is really as talented but are playing an aggressive style of football which always works in football.

If this Notre Dame team had a vertical passing attack they would be dangerous and I'd call them a contender. That NIU loss was when the OC at Notre Dame tried to turn Leonard into a pocker passer only with disastrous results. This Freeman team is not like those Brian Kelly squads. But the team isn't perfect and if they get behind, I'm not sure then can come back tonight.

Stockton isn’t necessarily chopped liver just because he’s the backup. He’s a former 4-star recruit who looked plenty capable physically in the 2nd half and OT against Texas. If he plays like he did in that game, and especially if they can run the ball well to support him, I think Georgia can do enough to win, because Notre Dame isn’t an offensive juggernaut either. He’s green though, so if makes a couple of big mistakes, that could certainly tip the scales the other direction. I expect a fairly close game.

I said winning the turnover battle will decide this one, Georgia turning over at the ND 10 was very costly. Can't lose the turnover battle and expect to win.

Better than I would have predicted, but not playoff worthy. Had UGA lost the SEC championship, I think the playoff committee would have been justified cutting Georgia out of the playoffs.
