Hey Vandy !

Oh, I see now. You're saying that UK is not 30 points better than Vandy. You must be proud.

Damian Jones does have tremendous potential. He's going to be good. However, we've got 9-10 that are already very good. That's a BIG problem for Vandy.

I know y'all do.

I'm not one to talk pre game smack, but this game could very ugly for Vandy. CATS won't be losing their first game to Vandy and you can bank that.

I've yet to look too closely at Vandy, but they appear to have good size and they also shoot the 3 at a high percentage. On paper they appear to have a good team.

Then again, they've lost nearly every away game and it seems doubtful they'll overcome that on the #1 team's home floor.

Just looking at the numbers, it seems Vandy is in a similar position as most other teams in the SEC when it comes to Kentucky. They will play zone from start to finish because they can't possibly match up one on one. They will hope the Cats are ice cold from distance. They will have to hope they're getting open threes and making them at a high clip (better than their average). They'll have to gang rebound to keep UK off the offensive glass. They'll have to also hope that UK is playing flat defensively.

If ALL this falls into place, Vandy will still likely be trailing in the game and will need an amazing performance offensively from 2 or more players to be in the game to the end. And at the end, Vandy will need to outperform the Cats in the clutch with the Cats giving maximum effort to the end.

It's a tall task, eespecially given that Vandy just got beat by the worst team in the league Saturday.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? According to KenPom, there is a 3% chance of it happening.

Bottom line: if UK comes out playing that stifling defense like they have the last 2 games, Vandy could play its absolute best and still lose by 20. Ask Alabama. They shot better than nearly any other team has against UK and they had home court advantage, and they lost by 22.

My guess is that Vandy will have some moments of making good plays but they will be few and far between. In the end, UK scores around between 70 and 80, depending on how well they're shooting threes, and Vandy scores between 50 and 60 to lose by between 20 and 30.

Splitting the middle, I'd guess UK 75-55.

Ouch! I was just looking at KenPom's stats on Vandy and saw 2 things that will likely kill them against UK.

#1 They are rated #250 in the nation at preventing offensive rebounds. Bear in mind, UK is #1 at offensive rebounding, grabbing almost 45% of their missed shots. Kentucky could shoot 30% on first shots and still win by 25.

#2 Vandy turns the ball over 14 times per game on average and are rated #275 in the nation at protecting the ball, turning the ball over on over 21% of its possessions. Meanwhile, UK is #14 in the nation in forcing turnovers, causing a to on 24.1% of opponents' possessions.

These are deadly combinations for Vandy.

With all that how does Vandy have three percent chance of beating UK?

Yeah, so....

That's not good.

We're also one of the unluckiest teams in the country according to KenPom (hence the 11-6 record instead of 15-2).

As an aside, Stallings is rebuilding the program (5 freshmen, 2 sophs) and we have a good class coming in to compliment these guys. I fully expect to be back in the NCAA Tournament next year and contending for the SEC the following year.

Y'all will enjoy watching Riley LaChance.

On March 5, 2003, Vanderbilt came into Rupp Arena thinking they could play with UK. They left with a 106-44 beating. If Cal and the team wanted, they could possibly top that Tuesday night.

Vandy nerds are excited, they're breaking out the slide rules, calculating their chances.

A couple of years later, we repaid that debt in Memorial Gym with an epic beatdown of the Cats.

I'm sure you remember that game.

Ha ha, can't believe that turned out so bad in Lexington. He did such a great job at aTm that even I was convinced he was the real deal.

Did his drinking play a role in his demise at UK? Just couldn't take "life in the fish bowl?"

Regardless, I miss him!

Kentucky by at least 20 over Vandy would go a long way to creating a sense of comfort in the universe, allowing things to be set in their natural order.

Vandy may be on an epic slide in SEC play. They play @UK, LSU, @UGA and @A&M. They have already lost 3 in a row, UK will be 4...probably somehow beat LSU as LSU seems to like to lose to inferior teams, and then a loss at UGA for sure and maybe have a shot at A&M.

Then they get a 3 game homestand (3 SEC games at home in a row seems strange) against FL, SC and UT..so they could win all 3 of those.

Vandy fan(s) tomorrow night you may very well feel as we did on February 12th, 2008. Vanderbilt definitely ran up the score on us, here's hoping tomorrow night is payback for the 41 point beating you put on us.

Kentucky = Frieda's Boss

Vanderbilt = Frieda, our secretary

Well now, you know that I and I know that, but somebody's bucking for a promotion. Probably that pederast Stallings. All I know is, if we don't blame somebody besides the obvious superiority of Kentucky, the SEC is going to be all over this. Looks like the refs are the scapegoat of the week.

Wait, wat??????

We were paying y'all back for March 5, 2003.

If you pay us back tomorrow, expect to be paid back again.

Yeah, not going to happen. Coach Cal is not Coach G.

How long is Cal going to stay?

The score is 15-0 before tipoff. That place is a trap. If you've ever been there you know what I'm talking about. FCC.
The game is at Rupp.
He knows that, as does everybody else.

It won't matter though, our freshmen have hit the wall. Two dreadful games in a row. My God, we were awful today. Mississippi State is the worst SEC team I've seen in 20 years and we just managed to lose to them.....

Not good.

That said, we have some players and hopefully they hit the reset button and get a fairly officiated game in Rupp this Tuesday. If so, we'll be in the game.

If the refs swallow their whistles and allow a football game, we'll lose by 50.
We were definitely in the game to most of the posters in this thread's surprise. Credit to AH's two monster 3's to close out the game for UK though.

Vandy was "in the game", but at no point had a realistic chance of winning - despite the inflection of Dave Neal's voice.
