I’ve read this a few places, but if you know the flight routes Into/out of Reagan (they are VERY limited) and where the Helo was flying (on the other side of the river on the southern half of the runway), it’s really hard to believe that the pilot was trying to get behind a plane in front of him/her. The planes the pilot would see in front of them would be coming in from the south to land and would not be veering into their line of flight (they would be over the west edge of the river, not the east). The only plane the Helo would theoretically have to worry about would be one that is landing on runway #33 (not as widely used and for smaller jets/planes) that comes from the southeast and crosses the river at the southern end of the airport to land heading northwest. Thats the path the plane was on that the Helo hit.A plane they collided with and a plane in the foreground. They were instructed to get behind the plane. They probably were looking at the wrong plane
Not saying the pilot wasn’t looking at something coming in from the south, but anyone flying that Helo SHOULD (and I would think would) know the potential flight paths of any planes coming in.
