He probably won't be Kenny Payne bad, but

This whole post stinks of not knowing a damn thing about Pope as a coach. If he was going to be Kenny Payne bad, he would have already shown to be that sometime during the last 9 years he's been in the role of Head Coach.

If Payne had big time recruiting chops, how come he didn't prove that at UofL? What was Paynes offensive system? Did he even have one? Did his teams look like they actually ran a set offensive scheme? did his teams defend? Pope beat Kansas, NC State, Gonzaga, Baylor and Iowa St. last year. all teams that would have or did beat us despite our roster being superior.

Comparing Pope to Payne is about as ridiculous as it gets.
Whatever helps you sleep.

How long has he coached? So he can’t figure it out before coming to UK? He can only Figure it out here ?
I didn’t say “ figure it out”.. I’m saying that it may take a couple years to get the players here who fit his system. Hope to see you at Rupp Arena on Sunday afternoon to welcome him.

i could definitely see him being Mike Woodson bad.

Struggling to make the tourney most years.

Middle of the pack conference finishes.

Lackluster recruiting classes.

Basically, a continuation of what his career has been so far.

And UK becomes an afterthought on the national stage.
Totally disagree always enjoy your posts but literally could not disagree with you more

I am in Vegas at the new sphere but I appreciate the invite.

BCG was a DRUNK, big difference, add to that he never understood the weight of the history of the program, nor did he embrace it. I believe Mark is 1) not a drunk 2) speaks for itself as far as MP is concerned
But Clyde couldn’t recruit and the Kentucky brand didn’t help him with that. That’s the parallel with Clyde and pope. Both good coaches. Questionable recruiters.

Hope the NIL changes that

We just don't know yet. I'm ok with a three year leash. We whiffed on some good coaches, and I doubt Pope will be much worse than a few more years of Cal. At least it'll be more interesting than more Cal. I'm ok with a three year experiment. Next one won't be on Mitch.
I look at it as this... He was at a limited school and finished better than we did with one of our best offensive teams in history. Why couldn't he be better here? I think the guy will be a home run hire and we will look back at this and be glad Mitch made the hire

You don't know if he can recruit at a higher level. Recruiting at BYU is way harder than at Vandy. Let's give him a year or two and see how the recruiting goes before criticizing him for it.

Well he did beat Kansas, Baylor, NC State, Texas and Iowa State with his BYU team this past season.

Certainly will have a large pool upwards of $4 million in NIL to work from the last I read.

I don’t see that in the least.
