Tubby never missed a tournament...

If he hadn't shit the bed against UAB, his story may have been drastically different...

Tubby would have lost to Kansas in the sweet 16 that year. Guy couldn't even make 1 final four with his own players.

Meanwhile Calipari couldn't get past Vandy or USC Jr at home last year and lost to Peacocks with his midget point guard the year before that...prior to that year he wins 9 games with a roster loaded with 5 stars.

But keep on polishing that HOF turd... [laughing]

Cal is a one trick pony. Everyone has figured out his strategy and can now counter it. Along with his strategy he also needs top tier talent but he is no longer getting that either. To compound it all, he is loyal to his friends, which I give him credit for, but they have become an anchor pulling him under because most of them are dead weight to his cause and recruiting such as Tony etc. Lastly, his quest to end generational poverty has placed his priorities as the head coach of the University of Kentucky as last priority.

The thing about Cal I’m not sure about is if he is unwilling to change or if he is incapable of changing. Either way his performance warrants being escorted out of the building at this point if we go into the season with gaping holes and 7 players.

Seems to be be a common take in this thread, but I honestly don’t think Cal is the kind of person who can mail it in. I think he’s just insanely stubborn and inflexible. He can’t adjust to the game leaving him behind.

I don’t think he’s necessarily mailing it in in the sense that he’s not putting in any work or effort, but he’s struggling due to a combination of misplaced priorities and stubbornness.

The misplaced priorities are pretty obvious. He’s not even pretending at this point that he’d rather win championships for Kentucky than get players drafted if he had a choice between the two. There was a time at the beginning of his stint here when he could somewhat reasonably pursue both of those goals simultaneously because he was getting almost all the talent that was on a fast track to the NBA and could overwhelm most opponents with our pure collection of talent. The landscape has changed significantly though. The one and done players aren’t exclusively playing for Cal anymore, and the transfer portal and COVID year currently have the sport skewing older at the high levels. Now we’ve been mostly stuck just running a draft showcase for players who aren’t ready to dominate against the more experienced, more physically mature teams they often come up against.

Then there’s the matter of stubbornness. The way the game is played has changed significantly since Cal first took over, but he’s still coaching like it’s the 90s. Playing 2-3 bigs at a time to try overwhelm opponents with size, primarily looking to feed the post when we need key baskets, only really having one play to free up 3 point shooters, etc. The combination of all those things has really added up against us lately.

He's been mailing it in since about 2018.

The last 3 years, he hasn't even been putting enough postage on for the mail to deliver it.
