Did anyone else think the offense looked a lot better with a different qb that made faster decisions?

I wonder if Hamdan knows of an offensive line coach someplace?

Honestly, to me, it looked like a DIFFERENT offense. Ball comes out quicker, shorter route trees, etc. Boley seems to grasp what to look for pre-snap and where to throw post snap much quicker than Brock (and Levis and Leary, too, for that matter). He's not perfect but sure looks a lot more polished than Brock.

Hamdan said something earlier in the year about wanting to do something different but not being able to. He never expounded upon why. Now I wonder if it was because Hamdan wanted Boley to run his offense but Stoops made promises to Vanderpuff and therefore wouldn't sit him, so he had to alter his plans.

It's pretty obvious that Vanderpuff doesn't have the skills to run whatever offense has been designed for him. He has zero ability to go through his progressions or read a defense. He is even worse than Leary and I didn't think that was possible in a major D1 QB.

Looked much better but he still has two major flaws that are extremely concerning: 1) doesn't have key play designs, which is why we're so bad on 3rd and 4th and short.

2) shows zero ability to adjust to his personnel. We all knew wood would struggle. He has since the first snap vs sc. Yet we do little/nothing to help.

I'll add another: doesn't appear to have plays designed with options to combat heavy rush. Either Brock has failed completely to understand the concept of a hot receiver and checkdowns or they don't exist in Hamdan's offense. How many times this year has it been obvious that the rush is coming before the snap and we still run slow developing plays and take a sack or throw under heavy pressure?

I was disappointed with the layout of the play where Boley took the early high yardage sack.
They left the right end completely unblocked and were hoping he would bite on the fake handoff going to the left.
Made no sense.

Im reserving judgement on this because it could be on the qb. Boley didn't seem to have nearly the trouble vs the exact same opponent.

I lose it every time he calls these ultra deep drop play action reverse rollout plays. Theyre excruciatingly slow to develop and require protection to hold up forever. Even if they work, its going to require a 60+ yard throw in the air.

Its the exact kind of stuff you expect to see from someone that is used to a noticable talent advantage. Thats something we definitely don't have. Yet he calls one or two per game.

There should be nothing else other than:

fire Bush Hamdan. He sucks balls at calling plays.
We have tried changing the OC multiple times. Why do you think it will work this time?

If you were the kind of OC we would like to hire, would you come to UK given the strong possibility you will be out of a job after next season?

Agree re: wood. But it seemed we had an RB on his side more often than not to chip the DL. Maybe I only noticed it a few times and it seemed like more to me.

Maybe i couldn't see that from the stands. Thinking about it, i was mire focused on the qb play.

I guess better late than never but no idea why it took him this long to get there.

As bad the OL and QB position is it’s hard to evaluate Hamden. Also, We have an overrated WR core. Sure he is average at best but Stoops just hires bad OC’s. We might as well keep Hamdan and just hope he improves.

We've had several 4th and 2 or less this year where we lined up in the pistol for a straight drive and failed. If you're going to consistently line up in that formation on 4th down, you have to do something different on occasion or you're doomed to consistently fail.

Couple that with the baffling Wimsatt usage most of this season, the unwillingness to move on from BVG (this may be Stoops) and the general lack of offensive identity and I think it's time for Bush, BVG and Stoops to go.

The offense is missing a RB that’s a pile mover that can get tough yards. Right now we had all scat back runners.

All the more reason to not run that play consistently? We have two steamroller QB's who can't get 1 yard on a sneak? Line play is the main cause of this issue but (just like with Cal) we make offensive more difficult than it should be, for no good reason.

Easy to blame the OC for all of the Offensive problems but these OC’s all have had success at other places. It’s not like he is hiring guys off the street and it’s their first rodeo.

Actually thought Wilcox made a couple nice pick ups. Demi's a little better blocker(older, more experienced) but Wilcox's learning.

Fix the OL and it'll be amazing how much better the overall O will look.

His formations and presnap movement are too predictable. That DE knew what was coming in that play and it was obvious. Damned near every single time we are in a short yardage situation, a good defense knows what we’re doing. They read the formation and the motion and call it out. One time yesterday we were in a trip set hadn’t been in all game, inside receiver motioned tight to cover up what initially was an eligible tackle, their LB waved the safety into a gap and stuffed the run play. I believe it was 3rd down, but could’ve been 4th. I just immediately got pissed because it was obvious they knew the formation. Hamdan is either lazy or he sucks. I tend to believe he’s just not very damned good.

The offense has been reactionary. No true clear plan. It’s like watching a 12 year old lose at madden.

Vaught said it on the radio today, I'm fairly certain I and others have said it on this board.

Hamdan has got to be given a blank check to clean offensive house, bring in his own staff and players. It's pretty much that simple.

UK can significantly increase whatever the Boise St assistants are making if that's who Hamdan wants/needs to bring in. A lot of their roster would probably be an improvement at least in terms of consistency, production, success within Bush's system.

Guys, it's not rocket science. We're not 2-3, hell even 5 years in. WE'RE 12 YEARS IN. We know who and what the issues are. They've persisted over the course of all 12 years which means it's not any OC or QB...

The issue has always been offensive recruiting, development/coaching, production and the philosophy of what those look like in this modern era.

That may mean some hard discussion with some folks that have been with CMS the longest. His boys, his crew. Marrow may need to be given another role, or at least removed from recruiting offense. Outside of running backs, the players he is recruiting aren't producing consistently enough at a high level. See above state about issue persisting basically from the get-go. There's really only a couple of common denominators. We've had a dozen OCs, a lot of different offensive positional coaches...TWO GUYS RECRUITING THE TALENT FOR ALL OF THEM!

Gran, next on the list. He hasn't been here from day one, but he's been here a while now and I think it's obvious he still has some influence. There's a couple of other fellas in the crew as well.

Long story short, Stoops needs to find some different roles for his boys if doesn't want to flat out boot them. He needs to find a different role for himself as well. Meaning, get out of the offensive side. He needs to wipe his hands clean strictly be defensive, name Hamdan or somebody else AHC/Offense. Let them see what they can do for a season or two.
