Hagans declares for the NBA draft

Anyone with a brain knew he and Maxey were the 2 who had zero chance of coming back. Hagans will be drafted between 25-40 . I think IQ will be in the same range too. It is Richards and EJ that interest me as while Richards MIGHT get drafted it isn't a sure thing. EJ obviously won't .

Haven't read this thread as I know there won't be much logic in it and people saying he won't make the NBA blah blah blah but they are letting their hate cloud their minds ( and Hagans last month here ) and haven't looked at mocks as he is pretty much consistently a top 35ish pick by everyone .

Also it makes sense for him to leave due to what we have coming in. He was 3rd fiddle here this season and he would be no better then that next season with Boston and Clarke . And Askew is a very different player but just as good a passer and ball handler as Hagans is now .

It makes sense from all angles.

Boston
Clarke
Askew
Quickley

Would you stay at UK if you were Hagans?
Thats four 5 star studs including two PGs.

If Hagans doesn't improve his jump shot and finishing at the rim he will never make it in the NBA.

He will play for Greece.
What makes you think IQ will return?

Good luck to Ashton. He’s a good player. I think he will succeed in the right system but I just wasn’t a big fan of his game.

Good riddance, clown. He cost us a Final 4 last year with his epic sh!t the bed performance against Auburn in the Elite 8. I guarantee you he would've been the main one responsible for us getting bounced this year as well. A headcase clown of a player.

The nba is so offensively oriented that Hagans has little chance to succeed. Dude shoots 25% from three and the majority of those were wide open, feet set, top of the key. He misses more layups than any college player I’ve seen. Whoever drafts him is going to be sick in a few years

It's like a breakup that you knew was inevitable but kept telling yourself that it would all work out for the best if you just kept deflecting to other subjects.

I wish him the best. The first step of that means it's time for him to go.

Would have loved to have him back because I don’t think Askew is ready.

But, I won’t miss watching him miss layups and hearing about his overrated defense.

He’s not making a NBA roster anytime soon. I don’t see anything he does well enough that translates to the NBA.

I still think all 5 are leaving. It’s hard not to dream of a scenario where Nick, Quick and EJ all return, but we pretty much already know it’s not going to happen. Nick had a great year, showed off his mid range touch and showed that he can actually play the game. I really think he’s a late first rounder, and he worked his ass off I’m just really happy for him.

Quickley really could come back and improve his stock by running point for a Championship team. He’s a late lotto pick if that happens. But if he struggles then his draft stock pretty much tanks and his chances to be drafted are basically done. It’s easy to say “come back and improve your stock” but that almost never happens. PJ is an exception, but he made it happen for himself. If we’re all be honest, Quickley is more than likely at his peak for draft stock and that’s probably why he will leave.

As for EJ his Dad’s comments made it really clear that he’s not coming back. He basically called college a waste of time. I don’t think the guy could be more wrong. I thought EJ actually played really well this year and sacrificed a lot for the team by doing the little things right and playing solid defense, but nothing about his game has shown NBA talent to this point. He is out the door no matter what and it’s honestly a terrible decision if his plan is to play in the NBA. If that’s not his plan and he just wants to get out of school and make money, then whatever that’s his choice and I’m not going to knock it.

He’s the one player that I could care less if he came back. I would love to have every other player from last year at least one more year! That’s not happening!

I will be shocked if he is drafted but then again I live in Phoenix and who knows what the Suns will do- IMO be lucky to play in the G-league

Hagans shot 40% from the floor and 25% from 3. If you cant shoot the NBA doesnt want you.

He will play pro but it WILL NOT be in the NBA.

He was an athletic Isaiah Briscoe who couldn’t consistently finish at the rim like Briscoe did. I was a big a Briscoe defender here, and I still think he had a solid career at UK and so did Hagans. But neither are long-term NBA backups. Hagans will have his cup of coffee just like Briscoe did. They both worked really hard here, but they just aren’t NBA talents. Askew, Clarke, and Boston are all future lotto picks. Ashton wasn’t gonna come back and come off the bench and Cal would’ve been forced to start him over a player who had better draft potential. It was time for him to go, that’s just how it goes here.

I'm gonna miss his energy and defense. I'm not gonna miss his bricks, turnovers and end of year drama. I've definitely got mixed feelings about his departure. That said, overall I would rather see him coming back than leaving....but this is why college basketball is a shadow of what it used to be.

It depends on what your definition of “made it” is Sure he will get drafted but most on this board probably just feel like he won’t last in the NBA that long .

You guys are harsh. But I get it. Hard to recover from the quote admitting he wasn’t ready to play in the Elite Eight last year (file that under “things you should never say aloud). And the end of this year. Probably the biggest stage in the sport, just can’t have stuff like that in your record and expect to have folks say “it’s OK!” It’s hard to be 18-22 in this environment. You don’t get many mulligans. I hope he has a long and successful career at the pro level.

You already know, we're gonna run it back (next year)” LMAO. Beyond getting upset or excited anymore for who stays or goes. It is what it is. Just a pit stop along the way to the pros for their brand.

I think you kinda hit it. Most don’t get excited or upset.

I know folks on here don’t believe this, but folks are kinda done. If the nba doesn’t change the rule, I’d say within five years, you’re going to see a serious drop of interest in Kentucky basketball. They’ll still be diehards, but the casual fan will be gone.

First domino falls. Hopefully we have a solid idea of where we're at after this week.

I hoped he would be the constant defensive stud, and while it was there at times--he never realized his full potential.

Hopefully we can get back to having an elite offensive PG.

Why can’t each and every one of us just thank him and wish him luck, without any snide comments? We have to be better than that.

It's a message board. I don't believe Ashton reads it.

Also he's a pro at this point. The NBA isn't going to go easy on him because he's a kid.

I hope every kid that comes here is a start and is able to live out their NBA dreams. But too often it's a 1 sided thing. They don't do anything in the tournament. They don't become the best player they can. They leave for a 2nd round or a fringe 1st round grade.

Congrats on being out of the league in 3 years.

I mean.. he DID play here for two years. I think were asking a bit much to return a top15 player for his 3rd year..
This is a crazy statement, but I get it. It places the emphasis on high school ranking rather than NBA readiness. Hagans is 2nd round draft pick. What we have now is a system where being a 2nd round draftee is preferred rather than being good enough for a guaranteed 1st rounder. Hagans is an ultimate 3-4 year player in reality, regardless of high school ranking.

I always looked at it as a “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours”. Although it seems, as kentucky fans, we don’t “get our backs scratched” by a lot of the players.
