No. The guys who said we had him are already apologizing and changing their tune. It's BYU.
I'm not sure he's a fit.
I also think Cal knows more about who will be moving around than we do. Mintz came out of nowhere and was done before we knew he was an option. This is going to be a crazy summer of transfers.

I don't frankly care about any of this business of predicting who comes or not. But, you involved yourself, and broadcast to the world "100% Kentucky" that can only mean one thing, that he's coming to Kentucky. Now, you say that you "still believe he is coming here." Do you see any problem with that? I certainly do. Again, I care less about someone coming here or not, but care a lot more about someone on here delivering the equivalent of fake news. If you do not know, it's best for all of us if you don't make brash statements.
Cal will pull a rabbit out of the hat. Banchero or Kuminga would be better than Haarms.
We all need to be calm on this one, man. It isn't like we're losing recruiting battles to schools like BYU, Washington, Florida, and Oregon.

You know, the initial negativity of this actually makes it pretty clear that it's probably not as big of a deal as it seems.
I don't think any of those guys drastically changes UK's fortunes. McDaniels would have been nice, but I'm not sure we're better with him than what EJ was giving us, especially if it had pushed Brooks to transfer instead of return.

Sure we do. He had an offer to play for a coaching staff that just turned Nick Richards from a project into a first rounder, and that had produced guys like Davis and Towns and Noel and Randle and Cousins and WCS and on and on.
Or he could play for a mid Major that gets on national TV twice in November and hasn’t produced an NBA big since Shawn Bradley.
So you take on the challenge and go for it or you take the easy road, then go play in Belgium.
The thought process is the same as the above average guitar player who gets a shot with a top national act, but decides to stay in Milwaukee. Or the promising scholar who gets invited for a semester try out at Harvard, but decides to stay at Cleveland State.
Some people don’t believe in themselves so they rationalize staying small time.
And part of it is the posters who start threads that quote tweets from random people who are just guessing. Someone in the thread will lend the tweet some form of street cred and off we go, with the board igniting and BBN penciling in a kid we "really need"; then only to not land him and watch the same folks write, "we didn't really need him."
I hate the late-spring/early summer period. It's usually bad news regarding departures followed by a whole lot of "meh."

Where are you getting that Nick Richards is supposedly "a first rounder"? Not according to the mock drafts that I've seen.
And I might point out that Nick started out as a Five Star McD All American, which ain't exactly the place where "projects" typically begin. He was a disappointment his first two years, it took him three years to finally become the player folks thought he'd be when he started.
So did Marcus Camby "not believe in himself" when he chose flyweight Calipari and UMass back in the 90s over the established UConn Huskies? I'm certain he liked Cal's pitch better. There is this remarkable thing called "paradigm shifts" in a program, and they usually come when there's a competent coach in charge of a program. Mark Pope is that type of coach.
Thus, BYU has a newer coach who makes all of their former program ineptitude largely irrelevant. Haarms seems to have preferred their system more. None of the guys you mentioned at UK under Cal had a green light to do anything from the perimeter. Maybe that's what Haarms is looking for. Does that essentially mean he's an emotional cuck? No. Is it possible you're right? Maybe. We simply don't know.
But it is good to know that every year we're only losing kids because they're A. emotionally inept in that they don't believe in themselves B. taking cash or prizes from other schools or C. don't care about winning.
Every recruiting loss spawns the same narratives from one of these options.
Every.
Single.
Time.
Has Calipari ever lost a kid in a recruiting battle when the playing field was completely even?

The kid didn’t even play basketball until 7 years ago. Rankings are based on two things, politics and potential and he had plenty as an athletic, 7’ player. Absolute project player unless you think 4 years of basketball in high school is all you need to hone your skills and dominate.
