Haarms Announcing Tomorrow

Still need another big IMO.

Can't count on him to play 35 mins/game when he's never averaged more than 22 MPG, and averaged only 20 MPG last year. Some guys (especially extra, extra big guys, think Tacko Fall) just don't have the ability to play heavy minutes like that.

Need a big, serviceable backup.

If was because he is foul prone and did not start every game. So we need to adopt a slogan to keep him on the floor.

No Haarm / No Foul.

No Haarm Don't Foul

Because it will be No Haarm if he fouls at the rate he did at Purdue. He tends to reach over the shoulder a bunch on rebounds. That is his biggest weakness, he has to improve his rebounding. For a guy 7-3, no need to reach. He needs to learn positioning, and he has a habit of losing balls because of lack of strength in his hands. 1-2 rebounds a game. That is the biggest knock I have read on him from the scouting reports. He also is not exactly the most fluid / nimble guy running the floor.

Strong points - He can rim protect with the best of them, has a nice little jump shot and over the shoulder little jump hook. Needs to extend his range and be more consistent with his jumper. Will be a great addition and definitely fills a very important position of need.

I doubt he's going to change very much about his style- a guy who is foul prone will keep being foul prone.

I agree that certainly played a big part, but there were plenty of games where he was not in foul trouble (he only averaged 2 fouls/game), where he still played extremely limited minutes.

I did not watch enough of Purdue to know why, but either way, we NEED another big who can play significant minutes at the 5.

Probably because he only started 15 out of 29 (50%) games last year. So when you only start half the time, you are not going to get 35 minutes per game. And he was also injured for part of the year. So when he first came back, his minutes where limited. His Sophomore year he only started 23 out of 36 games. One other big concern, he only averages a little over 2 free throws attempted per game. A guy of his height and weight should be shooting a lot more than that. But, he shies away from contact. he has to be more physical and command attention, which is why he also has a poor rebounding average for a guy his size.

If we land him which I think we will....

We at times could go:

Ware 6’6
Boston 6’7
Brooks 6’7
Jackson 6’9
Haarms 7’3

That would be the tallest lineup in UK history.
Ware is significantly taller than that and I don’t think that is a lineup anyone would want to see. You basically have one guy who is a 2 or 3 and the rest are a 4 or 5. Talk about a lot of pressure on Boston, who isn’t a PG, to facilitate.

Lol. Would be shocked if he’s even drafted let alone in the first round.

Vintage Pitino says:

"Glenn Robinson is not walkin' through that door [pronounced: Do-Wah], fans. Cuonzo Martin's not walkin' through that door. And if they do walk through that door, they're going to be gray and old and still end up losing to Duke by ten in the Elite Eight."

Jackson will back up Haarms.

Haarms probably plays between 25 to 30 minutes per game. Jackson plays the other 10-15 minutes at the 5.

We are set with Haarms, IMHO.

You're sounding like Tubby with Jared Carter and Shagari Alleyne and Lukasz Orbzut.
We are not hoping this guy is nothing he has proved it at the highest level, shagari and woo I love them both but they couldn't hold this boys jock strap !! He is a rim protector and a good mid range shooter as well as rolling to the basket ,also with the team we got coming this guy if he gets us 6/7 rebs and a few blocks is all we will need!!

I am fine with a Haarms-Jackson platoon.

haha, this thread is pretty funny reading back. All the confidence in the world and no idea why. Bottom line is this guy wouldn't have done well at UK and its best for everyone. Not bashing the kid, hes a very good player, but he wouldn't have done well here.
