My 7 year old son broke a lamp the other day and when I got home from work my wife told me what happened and that he had already been punished...but I wanted to hear an explanation,

“Dad what happened was A.M. was being mean to me, like really mean and I told her to stop and school is so dumb my teacher she says no recess ALL WEEK because Tate can’t stop talking and we tell him not to but he doesn’t listen and the Switch wouldn’t work because someone forgot to charge the controller, homework is soooo stupid so I threw the nerf ball at A.M. and the lamp fell off the table but it wasn’t my fault!”

That is what Cal sounds like.

- To be fair, Cal’s like me in a fight with my furious wife when everything I say just makes her more pissed. BBN being my wife, of course.

- I assume it’s tongue in cheek but who knows with some of you. All you “fire Cal” guys really want a weird relationship with all the great players who were here the last 11 years?

It’s also a slippery slope to becoming Indiana or UCLA. Only takes a bad hire and shit starts compounding.

The F*** do "I" care what people who used to play here think?

We've had plenty that loved us and plenty that don't. And it's never made one damn bit of difference. .

Cal has lost is f***ing mind, or Boston (and entourage) have some dirt on him. Either way,GTFO. And hurt feelings of former players be damned.

I know that some strong bonds can be built in 7 and a half to 9 months, but hey, we've gotta move on.

I care a lot about our former players and their relationship to UK.

I also remember the Tubby years and Gillespie years.

I’d rather bet on Cal figuring it out than on firing him, looking insane, having a weird relationship with one of the best decades of UK basketball ever and counting on Mitch to hire a guy on par or better.

But you know being a cold canceling idiot is all the rage now so whatever.

Late Tubby years and current Cal are in a similar career arc. Cal has to start feeling pressure. He’s losing to teams with far lesser talent... pre Covid.

I like him, but he needs some balls.

No coach and certainly no player is bigger than this program. That’s what sets UK apart. 5 different coaches won the ring. No other program is close.

‘03- Tournament 1-seed blown out in E8
‘04- Tournament 1-seed beat by mid major in 2nd round
‘05- E8 loss in OT
‘06- 2nd round loss
‘07- 2nd round loss

‘20- no tournament, likely a 2-seed
‘19- E8 loss in OT
‘18- S16 loss
‘17- E8 loss at buzzer
‘16- 2nd round loss

It’s a F’ing stretch, especially considering the 5 years beforehand, so I wish you MFers would stop saying it.

I have no clue why an honest, straight conversation can’t be had.

He is AWFUL this year.
The last 5 years- he’s been good, not great. Top 5-7 program probably.
First 5 years- for the ages

Exactly what SK said. I want him to change and win, or I want him to leave amicably. I don’t want to fire him unless it’s a last resort.

Honestly though, Cal needs to revamp so much of how he runs the program, I don’t think he’ll ever do it.

We need to recruit great talent, and keep guys who aren’t guaranteed first rounders for several years

We need assistant coaches that aren’t washed up yes men.

We need a modern offense.

We need him to chill the f*ck out on the sideline and stop micromanaging every possession.

We need a couple Kentucky boys on the roster every year, and we need him to tell his friends their kids aren’t walking on here.

We need him to actually fill out the roster and use the available scholarships.

We need him to actually give a f*ck about BJW and truly understand that this is the Commonwealth’s team, not a G-League babysitter’s club. Stop treating this place like it’s some pit stop shit hole on the way to the NBA. This program provides these guys with unlimited exposure and unlimited resources to help them reach their dreams. Some f*cking gratitude for what you’ve been handed the keys to would be nice. At a bare minimum shove the contempt up your ass.

I guess what I’m saying is LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.

I don't want him fired because he has built a lot of credit for his previous seasons and I think he's been a great ambassador for the program BUT I'm disturbed we are in a place where fans showing their discontent is the only way to make him make a change. This idiotic buyout gives UK no leverage to even say "Hey, we don't want to fire you but you are going to have to make changes."

I personally would feel better if there was an acknowledgement that the message and brand of "Players first" and OAD has gotten twisted and misconstrued, that if you're a projected first-rounder after one season, we'll send you gladly on but if not, then that's what sophomore, junior and senior seasons are for. Stars don't matter and those that produce, play, those that don't, sit. If I heard anything like that then I'll put up with a bad season or two because he has earned it.

But you know he won't. It looks like he's digging in and now we've got a Knight or Crum.

FFS.

It's simple:

Well, good because he’s our ambassador FOR LIFE.

Let’s just fire him from coaching, and let Bruiser play Dontaie 36mpg so we can make the NIT final four.

If Cal would just agree to not say one more GD word to BJW Nation, I’ll accept his clown show performance on the court. Own it, coach your team, and stfu. You better do better next year.

Nets ain’t going anywhere, Kyrie will find a way to implode the show.

You think Kyrie will be back with them? I’m starting to question it honestly.

Harden and KD are perfect combo, and their role players as is are perfect. Could use 1 more body to cover Lebron 10-15 a game, but other than that I think they breeze thru the East.

Nets traded Allen who was the rim protector/specialist. Carys LaVert will be a star. I think the Nets will make a couple more moves to shore up the middle. They will be a tough out in the East, but I think Philly will improve too.

Kyrie wants to be the guy, without all that comes with it. A complete bb savant, but lunatic. Eff that dude. No interviews, quitting on team last year, personal opt out this year. Players run that league, but it’s out of control. He will find a way to subvert this team.

Tonight’s game v Milwaukee was awesome.

Cal is 62 in a few weeks. I always thought he would be out regardless around 65 so I guess a lot could change in 3 years candidates wise if that holds. There is no heir apparent out there.

Tier 1 make an offer get rejected: (Vogel, Stevens, Donovan)
Tier 2 likely (Holtman, Beard, Hoiberg, Wright)
Tier 3 flyer (McDermott, Oats)
Aint happening - Pearl, Wade, Drew

who else is out there? Tony Bennett? K.

I think you have to consider Shaka Smart. His name might not be so hot anymore, but what he has done at Texas will land him a top job when they come open.

Nate F’n Oates can’t hold Cal’s coaching jock strap. We get it. He took a jab at K. He beat UK in our worst year in the past 100. He has a losing record (2-3) in the Tournament. And overall win percentage of .665. If Sudsy taught us anything it’s we need a larger sample size for this job. F Oates, Buffalo and the state of Alabama.

Cal needs things like this to motivate his lard a$$. He’ll make the climb.

Hyperbole and redass aside, I'm not sure there is a single smart UK fan who wants anything more than for Cal to get his fastball back and to stop saying condescending, stupid shit to the BBN.

Also, please tell me that now that you are back on the prowl that you will be handing out baseball cards of yourself to potential new lasses.

- I’ve seen some crazy shit in collegiate athletics, but Tennessee investigating and indicting itself for recruiting violations JUST to save buyout money is something else.

- Chase, I agree with most of your post but guess I don’t think we’re as far away as most. I mean we were 25-6 last year and one bounce away from the F4 two years ago. Cal’s team-building style is high stakes and it bit us this year with losing guys who should have returned and our two elite recruits busting during the weirdest college basketball season we’ll ever see. I’d be happy with:

1) Roster continuity- it’s never going to be like the ‘90s but returning the guys who should return next year would be a good start to go along with a recruiting class that appears to have multiple multi-year kids. I understand the skepticism.

2) Modernize your system a bit- more emphasis on threes, fewer jumbo lineups.

Adjust those issues a bit and we’re back in business.

As far as appeasing BJW- whatever. Cal is known to be as down to earth as it gets in person. He’s done some great things for this state, our former players, fan, etc. Overall, I agree with his players philosophy, but I think it’s drifted too far the other way. Needs to be recalibrated. I haven’t been offended by anything he’s said and don’t feel he’s talking down to me. Of course, I’m rarely offended.

Not really. Just talk some sense into guys like Juzang, Baker, Hagans, Whitney, Montgomery, Wiltjer, Matthews, Johnson, Teague, Lamb., etc Don't push them out in order to pander to a a 1b recruit. Why is that so difficult? He brings back 50% of those guys and we have at least 1 more F4 if not another title. TS. It's ok if we're 2 or 3rd in recruiting rankings.
