Those stats are stunning. Our defense obviously sucks, but there also seems to be a remarkable "luck" quotient the Cats end up on the wrong side of, particularly in SEC play. And the officiating clogging the flow of the game doesn't help. As much as I hate getting exposed the way we have with all the injuries, I feel pretty zen. I suppose that's what a coach who is smart enough to look at a problem and dig into why it's a problem in order to fix it does for you.

Missing Butler (and Kerr) are obviously a key part of our current issues. However, they still have figured out a tactic that produces points in their absence.

The horrid manner in which they are defending is more than just due to Butler’s absence. I think Pope is implying that their defensive strategy is also failing miserably. The hope is that Pope and his staff are willing and able and able to adapt and not remain stubborn to something that clearly isn’t working.

Honestly, there is no risk in doing so. It’s almost impossible to do worse.

How convenient after the blockbuster trade, mavericks play at 7:30 on national tv, followed by lakers at 10:30. That somehow worked out great for ratings if Luka and Davis are miraculously cleared of their injuries and play tonight. But yeah, I’ll tune in 😀.
Edit: I now see they are both still “injured” so not playing tonight. Time to find something else to watch.

I keep harping on this, but our last two opponents shot completely out of their ass. Keeping them out of the paint and forcing jumpers is probably the best we could do, but if they hit everything they throw up from the perimeter, what can you do?

If Kerr is able to redshirt, I would prefer that he take that route. I would love for him to have the full Kentucky experience.

We just need Butler back. Perry can be his backup. I actually think Perry has been pretty good, all things considered. His defense may be lacking at this point, but he is an active and willing defender, something I wish I could say about some of his older teammates.

ATTN MODS:

I’ve been posting under the name PTI (pti) for 25 years, but it’s time for a change. How do I update my handle to “Big Balls?”

Perry has more TOs than Assists on the year… is that good for a PG? Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen.

-Perry has progressively gotten better. Been a huge ask for him this season. Ideally, you don't want to count on your 3rd string freshman PG but here we are.

-Having KK back next year would be very welcomed.

-Brea, Al, Carr, Perry are all... poor defensively. Robinson and Garrison aren't great either although have some nice moments. Chandler is so bad on O, it doesn't make it worth it. I think you have to play Brea as much as possible. Regardless if he's hitting because of the attention he draws from the defenses. He opens everything up.

-I get the conservative approach on D, play the numbers, but we need more possessions. Our O is so efficient we have to do something to get stops.

-Unless it severely compromises his future, Butler needs to play, ASAP. Even if it's sparingly. We're expending so much energy just getting the ball to half court, no wonder these dudes are exhausted.

Yep. Same with Garrison. That’s not the argument.

The dropoff unfortunately with losses of Kerr, Butler and Carr to the current bench role players is vast.

Certainly not ‘good’ or ‘good enough’ to win games. All things considered.
