Bama 29-34 FT in Rupp. Lol

Not gonna win many like that, but we were there throughout. Could have gotten run numerous times, but didn’t. And those two ‘stops’ turned loose ball 3s late were just icing.

It makes for a miserable winter work week as a fan, but this break is so desperately needed.

Perfect timing. 🙏

If you believe our defensive issues are fixable. I *think* they are, but I’m getting worried the longer they persist.

For me, our positioning is a problem. We’re just not athletic enough to recover space like other SEC teams.

Edit: perfect example was midway through the 2H. I think we had cut it to 2-3pts. We gave up a drive to Sears and Robinson over-helped. He just isn’t quick enough to recover and gave up a 3 to Youngblood.
Robinson and Williams were particularly bad with over-helping today. Garrison finally made some adjustments late on that front and we got a late stop or two late as a result.

Sears just feasts on over-helping.

Sucks we stunk just as much as in zone as in man today and it exacerbated our rebounding issues. Could have helped keep Sears out of the lane and taken them out of their normal offense. We forced them into
a few uncomfortable possessions but then would give up an offensive rebound.

Plenty of room to grow still and plenty of time to do it.

- Others have hit on it, but Alabama, a likely 1 seed, shot 40% from 3 and nearly 90% from FTs on 30+ attempts on both. And won by 5. Nothing to be ashamed of.

You play in this many games like this, you’re eventually going to lose one of them. Now 5-1 on the season.

- Felt like every time we didn’t score it was a death sentence - and we still managed to keep ourselves in it.

- Gotta clean up defensive rebounding.

- ^that said, one reason we give up so many is our opponents are taking so many 3s against us. Those two loose balls in a row down the stretch just bounced right to them and they got two 3s out of it, which basically ended the game.

- Losing sucks. This team isn’t perfect. But IMO it’s important to remember that we came into the season hoping to have a good team that could win a tournament game or two, and now we’re hoping they can win it all.

I still like my team despite the loss.

HAVE to tighten up the defense. Thought Williams was supposed to be a rim protector? Garrison is better at that. Brea is doing better but Jaxson is a liability, Perry is just being singled out. Straight drives to the basket have to stop as well as drifting in leaving open looks from 3.

Lazy passes and soft hands on rebounds. Grab the effing ball like you stole it.

Free throws, percentages say we should be better. We’ve left a lot of points on the floor this year.

Screens have to be solid in this league. Can’t continue to drift into a pick, instant offensive foul. Solid picks up top get better looks and dives.

We can beat any team and we’ve still got about 15 games to get better. Been a long time since I could have this much optimism.

Pope has to be in the conversation for coach of the year. Completely new roster from a first year coach ranked in the top 10.

When I see Pope so dejected after the OSU game in the Garden or the Bama game yesterday it’s worrisome and also refreshing.

The guy lives and dies with these wins/losses. The great thing is there is no doubt he will hang some sort of banner(s) or die trying. He’s gotta pace himself though. He will have a nervous breakdown if he keeps going at this pace.

The guy shows so much passion for what he is doing. Folks like that the universe tends to bend to their will. Just love the guy.

God help our opponents if top button finds a way to bring Sumrall home too.

On their conference schedule, Arkansas only plays every currently ranked SEC team 1 time……..and they are going to finish last in conference.
😎

I think it's fair to ask, how much did THE KENTUCKY EFFECT keep JVC from sucking even worse / being exposed even more, while he was here?

I mean, he took his players and staff and put them in different jerseys and a different gym. We see the result.

Talent over experience, John? With coaching, I agree.

Whenever I think about the last few wasted years, I think maybe they were a necessary bridge to Pope being ready for the job.

The big difference is he had some goodwill with UK fans, especially the younger ones. Hence the long leash he had. He doesn’t have that in Fayetteville and they are already tired of his schtick. His comments about having to “teach them to win” and “drag them across the finish line” and the infamous “tweak” are falling upon deaf ears. They are already rueing his contract and the fact they cannot afford to let him go.

My only real satisfaction with any of the Cal situation is that the rest of the sports world now can see why we wanted him gone and that we aren’t in fact lunatics, the BBN does in fact know a thing or two.
