  • I went to the Ga. State game compliments of bench press champion and leader of men, @anthonys735. Rupp hits different this year. Feels more professional - almost like NBA but with college excitement. An aura of we know we have the best place to play in the nation and now we have the right style of ball to go with it.
  • Speaking of professionals, our dudes are like 25-year old Triple-A players going against a college baseball team. They're bigger, wiser, older and can just wear you down. How Cal couldn't figure this out is beyond me.
  • Is there value in getting top freshman recruits anymore? Unless they're Cooper Flagg you're not going to win with them being the top contributor (and Duke isn't really doing that) and you're not going to keep them there long enough to make a difference. I think the only ones you want are guys like Hansbrough, who had big enough flaws where he just wasn't going to be drafted, but was awesome in the college game.
  • So is the strategy just to get seniors and grad transfers? Or do you want to find guys who will develop over time and be contributors by the time they are 21 years old?

I think it’s still a hinterland environment out there re: elite freshmen vs experience with a couple of years to let the “evidence” settle.

My gut tells me if Pope can land Wilson, this class makes a lot of sense in that it’s talented as hell but I know he will also augment the portal pieces to complement/enhance the freshmen in a way that UK isn’t totally relying on them. Plus return some guys who figure to play key roles.

Just already trust the roster construction way more.

This isn't anything new. The last team in the past dozen years or so with predominantly freshman leadership was Duke in 2015. In this era, a sophomore is considered a veteran. Even Cal in 2012 had 2 sophs and a senior who were 2nd/3rd/6th in scoring.

With Covid years and transfers and graduate years and redshirts and medical redshirts and guys testing the waters then coming back and . . .

There's now a backlog of good to really good talent in college basketball. We're seeing this in high school right now. Lots of great high school players aren't even getting a sniff from NCAA programs now because there is nowhere for them to go (unless they are 4-5 star dudes). They'll go to an NAIA program and then transfer after a couple of great years. It's like a farm system. If guys can play until they're 24-25, where does an 18 year old fit in?

(*)(*) BVG probably needed the fent pen to be able to function after all of those unnecessary hits he took.

I mean, damn. My wife can decide where she wants to go out to eat faster than he could decide when to throw or run or who to throw it to. It's safe to say his decision making skills were somewhat lacking.

(*)(*) I had no idea a fent pen was even a thing. I need to do more drugs.

(*)(*) Early portal interest is exciting and encouraging if we were playing in the Sun Belt.

(*)(*) I think we go in and take care of business tonight. Good first test in those beautiful road blues.

(*)(*) Thank God for Mark Pope and this year's Kentucky Wildcat Basketball Team.

(*)(*) Finally went to my boss and told him I can't do all of these crazy hours anymore. Within 24 hours he had a meeting with me discussing hiring a new person or 2. I wish I had told him that several years ago. Shake Chad's Head.

(*)(*) I've turned my beer only neighbor into a bourbon drinking fool. Probably my biggest accomplishment this year, tbh.

(*)(*) "If guys can play until they're 24-25, where does an 18 year old fit in?" Arkansas, Strokin. The answer is Arkansas.

(*)(*) Loved Moana 2, but it wasn't as good as the first. But on that note... Hey hey, you're welcome!

Have a good one, GYEROmaniacs. I know I do.

Getting away from the negativity of our football program until more things shake out……..

UL a favorite over a Chris Beard coached team? Um False! The chicken bucket isn’t much of a home court anymore either.

I can’t see this team losing to Clemson no matter how tough they are. Which makes me nervous for tonight’s game and that Vegas spread. If we were to lose one early this is the one I’d least be concerned with.

Seeing Cal/Mizzou in the ACC/SEC challenge is confusing AF. Some things will never be right.

I guess it’s that time of year with the first real cold wave but I’m flat out exhausted. 9pm game and I no doubt will need a nap just to make it.
