Stoops whole “I KNOW EVERYONE WANTS ME TO QUIT BUT IM NOT GOING TO” bullshit was just a last ditch effort to goad Mitch into firing him. He has zero intention of coaching a single game again at Kentucky. He’s using us as hostage victims to get $44M out of our state university. F him.
I would otherwise agree with with you if we were some deep south school with all kinds of oil, gas, and chicken money…but we ain’t.

I really don’t think people are grasping just how “poor” we are when it comes to competing with the other schools in the SEC. Especially in football. Yes, we have the Crafts, the Gattons, and a few other behind-the-scenes boosters. But overall, we don’t have shit compared to the other schools.

People just need to accept that our program is pretty much done.

(And I don’t say this lightly; UK football is very near and dear to my heart, some of my best memories growing up were going to the games with my dad when we had bleacher endzone season tickets.)

EDIT: We couldn’t pay him if he/we wanted to.

Oh I don’t think Mitch is going to fire him. I just think that’s what Marks goal was with those comments. I think he loses his gamble and has to accept another job elsewhere.

I'm not going to lie. CSC81 going this pessimistic makes me nervous. He's always been (to his credit) steady Eddie. I'm not saying he's wrong, but it DOES concern me and makes me a little sad.

Sorry for the detour from the UK football is terrible again vibe. Between the Cayuts and the Bungles I’m done with football for the foreseeable future. March is looking promising at least!

I know I'm right up against my post numbers limit/tolerance today, so I'm going to end with this: the Clemson game, fair or not, is bigger than it should be, this early in the season, for this fan base. UK fans could really use a win Tuesday. A pain pill, figuratively speaking. Or, maybe it's just ME.

Out.

Post-haste, Mitch needs a third-party audit of the football situation because he’s too close and intertwined to it to assess indiscriminately. Like a surgeon operating on family…

Boosters should rally Rich Brooks, Couch, VanHiles and anyone with a keen football eye and love for UK to report in on the obvious meltdown. Stoops can’t mail in another year. He hasn’t earned that right. He lost every bit of grace by getting fluffed and chucked by the weirdos at aTm.

eff him. Clean house.

Clown, I’ve watched damn near every team play this year, already. I don’t see one, other than Auburn, that could even give us much problem.

Yeah, we could go completely cold from 3, but we have already done that, for this team of shooters. We have a complete team of veterans, that can play at any pace and overcome an off night from 3. Plus we have a coach, that actually watches film and has them ready for the opponent. He also has a team that can play multiple defenses.

I really think we are one of, if not the best, team in the country. Just too many shooters, good defensively, can play any pace and style and a damn good coach. I like my team and coach!!

Hey Willy, are Buckeye fans happy with their defense? Maybe Stoops could be their DC. The AD is the same guy who tried to hire him at A&M. They went that route last year with Chip Kelly.

Regardless, the time to act is now. Sumrall is about to go to UNC. Neal Brown is available. We could get both if we act boldly and swiftly. Sadly, that's not how Mitch rolls.

Here’s the thing…

Mark Stoops (and Zac Taylor) aren’t going anywhere. Because they’re not going to be acceptable hires for any lateral or upward jobs. So our destiny is pain.

The ridiculous Sumrall bandwagon needs to hit the brakes. Kentucky hasn't exactly been the greatest of landing spots for the "latest and greatest" to be named HC.

~John Ray....vaunted DC for the Irish and got slaughtered here.
~Fran Curci....outside of having the best team in any of our lifetimes, he was pretty much a failure once the pay to play stuff was found out.
~Bill Curry....rolled in from Bama w/ all sorts of expectations and was steamrolled.
~Hal Mumme....no words.

Claiborne and Brooks brought stability, but not much else.

UKO,

Sumrall coming here or NOT coming here, isn't really the issue. It is just a sidebar to the bigger/genuine problem. How you came to that conclusion is inexplicable.

You have obliquely explained the REAL issue here, and that is: The University of Kentucky consistently CHOOSES to conduct itself as a passive bystander, who's fate is determined completely by external circumstances that they can't control. No matter what segment of life you're talking about, that behavior/model for living is, as a practical matter, a guarantee that you're f***ing it up. It's like lying down on a random stretch of railroad track, and "hoping" that you chose a segment that is no longer in use.

I can tell you with near certainty that Sumrall will come to UK when the call is made. He could be coaching the Cowboys and he would come rescue our ass.

The fact is it will be YEARS before that buyout gets low enough for UK to entertain a change. My guess is we have three years of Stoops left.

bradyjames, you almost certainly know more about the situation than I do, but nobody has actually addressed this: Why can't we fire him for cause, given that we had to forfeit games, and are currently on probation? And if Stoops f**ks around for three more years, how much money are we really saving in the long run, given the revenue we'll lose as a result of that?

If NCAA violations under his watch fit within a definition of "cause" under his employment contract, he can be fired for that. But it has to be the reason he was fired. If he got fired now, it would be obvious it was for the shitty season he just had, and not something that came to light many months ago.
