GYERO

I didn't say redneck or hillbilly. That doesn't bother me anyway. Hell, I'm a UK fan and a contractor. I love rednecks, blue collar, hillbillies. What bothers me, and I knew it existed because I see the posts on facebook suggestions, is the mercenaries showing up for a weekend tourney to play with a team they've never met for 8-10u. Especially for podunk meaningless destination tournaments. That's just really weird. Doing that every single weekend in the FALL!! If I had to repeat that experience again this weekend in Branson... f*ck off.
Yeah, that part was mostly directed at uko’s comment about travel ball culture. He was implying it’s full of the blue collar nice guys. Which there are plenty of those, but it’s not the main stereotype I see.

And I agree, the 10u weekend mercenaries are odd. But I’ve done some of that w my oldest this fall bc he can’t get enough. But there’s a difference in doing with a 10yr old and a high schooler imo

I will never, ever, ever understand the disgusting leadership vacuum that occurs after these national emergencies. There's 100 people dead, with hundreds more missing in the flooding across Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, etc. And, without the slightest bit of irony, our country just sent $17 billion this weekend to Israel and Ukraine in order to kill more people in war. Not to Americans in America, but for war.

If you were, say, running for President, wouldn't you be insanely popular if you just got on a camera and said "I think we messed up. Vote for me and I'm taking every single penny that would go overseas, and I'm sending all those tens of billions of dollars to Americans. In America. To rebuild America. And I'm bringing our troops home to help, so that instead of guarding sand 5,000 miles away, they're coming home to help YOU."

PTI (pti) for President.

Of GYERO regulars, UKO is the only person I'd want running things less than PTI.

🤮

I'm taking a Hundo Cat / wcc split ticket if it is up to me.

Also a half billion to Taiwan.

IDK why Israel needs any money from us. They seem to do just fine on their own. And of who does get US taxpayer monies, at least they are providing service to the rest of the world and at quite a bargain.

Of course things are different when they're the age to specialize and are a legit talent. But at 8-10... it's very weird.

Our kids were waaaay more interested in go karts and the pool. As they should be.

The dad wearing the two snap Starter shorts as he rakes the infield and paints the chalk batters box/foul line is always a stable, happy-go-lucky chap.

The precision is “for the kids”.

He was here in Nashville signing autographs yesterday.

He signed a MLB Hall of Fame baseball for me about six months ago. Saying “cross your fingers they let me in”.

I have a hunch they'll let him in now, but that kinda sucks for the family. If the HOF concedes now, it's kinda admitting keeping him out for spite all these years. Would almost rather they just stuck to their guns at this point.

Any HOF without Bonds, Clemens and Rose but has the likes of Harold Baines seems stupid to me.

How many damn 80s Harold Baines cards do I have in the basement. Seemed like every freaking wax pack his ass was first one on top.

Watching the max special of Pete a few weeks ago brought back some childhood memories and now this.

RIP Pete

I grew up a Pirates fan, but the player I always emulated on the diamond was Pete Rose.

As for the HOF, not sure why he’d now be let in considering that they’ve never capitulated and allowed Shoeless Joe Jackson in long after his death.

-I mean Pete was as synonymous with sports as Cawood, Sky Walker and Kenny Anderson for me. Can’t ever remember not knowing who he was. Our dads liked him because he was a blue collar tough sonofabitch who played hard all the time and most of all, made the most of all God had given him.

- How many professional athletes were hometown bred stars for their teams? Especially old Cincinnati. That was a baseball town. And Pete was Westside. Ornery. Hardnosed Westside. He’d chat you up. BS with you. Was a guy like my two grandpas were.

- I’ll take wet, gray 68 degree September over just about any type of weather.

- Hope you enjoyed Homecoming, Ole Miss. 😂 God I hate the SEC.

- Really thought Stoops lost his edge. Didn’t give him his due respect. Despite his shortcomings, he’s always been a competitor. I feel guilty.

- Few things make me happier than seeing BBN collectively ecstatic- toasting bourbon, getting out the “good” stuff, texts, phone calls. I just can’t imagine going through life not being a sports fan. What a pity. All the redass, headshaking, but then you get days like Saturday and I’m up in the clouds. Can’t explain it to the nonbelievers either. They just don’t get it.

- Our DBs are some nasty dudes.

- Ryan Williams and Jerimiah Smith are giving me strong Julio Jones/AJ Green vibes.

- Tremendous season of Industry. Best show on TV. Better than Succesion was, imo.

PTI is forgetting that Israel is our first and most important state.

I get this, but man F that. I can understand being spiteful as he played with the integrity of the game and lied for years until he was cornered.

Letting him in as a player and giving his family that moment even with him passed is good enough, but you have to let that guy in and he wouldn’t be the first to get in and been passed away Im sure.

I agree. I never thought he'd get in while alive, but his family should get the laurels and honors that he deserved if he hadn't been his own worst enemy. I'm 54, I don't remember the WS titles but I do remember the tail end of the Big Red Machine and was there at Riverfront ibefore he and Sparky left and it all ended. My first glove I ever owned was a Pete Rose signature glove. He was always the epitome of busting your ass and squeezing the most out of everything you possibly had to be your best if you weren't necessarily the athlete with all of God's gifts. I became a baseball fan as a kid because of him and learned about the history of the game as he climbed past names like Honus Wagner, Tris Speaker, and eventually Ty Cobb on the hits list. I learned about the significance of the hitting streak when he got within shouting distance of DiMaggio. You could learn a lot of life lessons, good and bad, from Pete Rose. This is a sad day.
