GYERO

- Wow. I don’t even know what to say that hasn’t already been said. That was a special event yesterday. And I was very lucky to be there.

On Saturday night I was telling the guys that were at our house to watch the fight that I thought it was gonna be crowded. One of them thought it wouldn’t be that crowded since the Masters was on and everyone was playing make-up baseball games. I was like, I don’t know. I don’t think you should doubt the BBN.

- To Brax’s point with kids, I agree. After the 3rd year of comforting a wailing child after a first weekend loss, I was worried about G’s fandom after he was screaming Kentucky sucks! We never win! I told him it’s not always like this and it’s not supposed to be this way. Hopefully things are turned around. It sure feels like it.

- Larry Redmon 😍 That was fantastic. He sounded the same and played the same play list of days gone by. (Minus Sweet Home Alabama and the rebel flag, thankfully.) That was a great throw back night for sure. I’m a Diiiiinnnooosaauurrrr!

- Happy for the new GYERO, but can we make sure the other one doesn’t actually disappear? There are some real gems in there and lots of memories.

New shirts from The Kentucky Shop.

- Just gonna assume Winston Bennett had gotten stuck in the bathroom on the bus and that's why he walked out with the '96 bunch.

- It's a little thing, I know, but I really wish there could have been a way for those former players to be identified, even if it was just a group pic beforehand with names. There were several of them who stepped off who resembled guys from the 70's and 80's, but I just couldn't quite place the name.

- Former players I personally got the biggest kick out of seeing get off that bus...Henry Thomas (the only player ever directly recruited to UK by C.M. Newton during a coaching transition), Jim Master, and Andre Riddick.

- Still holding out hope that the Noah kid will decide to opt out of his NLI at South Carolina and end up a CAT.

- Just an extra pep in my step this morning, gang. Woke up before the sun and knocked out a 5k (walk). Gonna be a fun ride.

It’ll take some time and him not shooting him self in his foot, but I think Cal will be welcomed back at some point.
Historically a strength for Cal.

Pitino coached our biggest instate rival, came down his leg (or impregnated a woman in wedlock on a table at Porcinis), was extorted, hired whores that squirted to the ceiling, and flipped the bird to UK fans in Rupp. And yet, he still has somehow endeared himself to UK fans again this week.

I think Cal will be just fine. But for now, he'd be well advised to keep UK's name out his mf'ing mouth.

I actually just took a journey back to March 2022, post-Peacocks. It's pretty interesting and entertaining.

It was also therapeutic to read everything we were complaining about then, but no longer have to deal with.

As Coach Pope said, gratitude leads to joy, entitlement leads to sadness and depression.

Some of those old posts made me even more grateful for the events of the past week, if that was possible. 😀

What page of GYERO does it start?

Idgaf where our transfers go as long as it’s not Arkansas. Not bc I’m worried about having to play them, I just think it’d be funny af if they ended up not getting any of them and looking at Cal like, ??. The buyers remorse could kick in early down there.

I'm pulling for Aaron Bradshaw. Wasn't fair to him that most assumed his injury was bogus. He ends up not playing as much, or as well, as he hoped, but seemed to be a great teammate who was legitimately excited for Ugo, Z, etc.

Happy for him that he's ending up at a Power Five where he can get a fresh start under a different staff.

^Told ya. Perry was very annoyed by the legos being dropped under his seat. We almost didn't make the event. Slid in minute before the bus due to high major little league baseball practice.

-GYERO is rolling right now. Hard to keep up with. Cal had really sucked the wind out of it as the old guard was so full of negativity most wanted nothing to do with regurgitating all the shit we built up from years of mental abuse by that con artist.

-Those Kentucky Shop shirts. Woof.

-Duke Sports Report has an article that nails the whole search craziness of yesterday. Good read from an outside perspective. Had no clue Pope was looked at for the Jazz job. The respect for his coaching is much deeper than I ever realized. The called Cal, Harold Hill, fantastic.

-Randolph is good buddies with a few members of the crew. We've known him for years. Incredibly nice guy. He was PUMPED.

-Why would you expect all of them to go to Ark? Hell we didn't expect any back did we? We were hoping for Z, Reed, Adou and Burks. But at least 3 of those seemed like long shots. I don't think we're far off from where we would've been if he'd stayed, other than we don't have 6 incoming freshmen.

Cal leaving did us a huge favor with roster makeup. We were locked in a viscous circle where we had to bring in 6 or 7 new guys per year, with Cal primarily filling the spots with freshman. That left precious few spots for the new most important player in the game: the impact transfer.

Now, Pope has only one guy that's a lock for the roster -- Travis Perry.

If Cal left in 2019, we would have had a much harder time rebuilding.

Nothing more really to add to the magic that was yesterday aside from my own personal experience. I was staying at Hyatt all weekend, and when we ran out to Winchell's at 11am and the line was already down the sidewalk wrapped it was clear it was going to be something very special.

Cried more than i care to admit, and before it even started tbh. As soon as I sat down, before any videos/etc even started -- just looking around at a nearly full Rupp that was clearly going to be 100% full within minutes, it all just kinda hit me....and really didn't let up from there, including the walk back to 80's house trying to process it all. Had a raging headache afterwards from straining to keep it respectable. This should come as no surprise to anyone that knows me, but it was comforting to know I was far from the only one for once. Was just an overwhelmingly beautiful/powerful scene & energy.

Truly was one of the more unique/special things I've ever been a part of, still can't fully process it. Can't recall ever being more proud of our fanbase -- reading the collective awe & kudos of the national media yesterday evening marcus welby porn.

Was a great day to be a Wildcat. The black cloud has lifted. Go Big Blue! 🥰

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tearing up at the Pope coronation yesterday too.

People wanting Antigua on Pope's staff have small dicks.

Heading to the lake Wednesday, fishing reports indicate lots of fun ahead.

My 8 year old son got to experience the true thrill of BBN and Rupp yesterday for the first time in his life. The passion is back!

Lexington has a buzz still. Yesterday was like a top ranked team coming back from raping the SEC in the tournament, while being the #1 overall seed in the NCAA.

Was told by a very connected individual that is friends with Cal that TCFEBUK jr has already expressed remorse to them.

I think Reed returns. His dad redshirted so he could come back a year after the Air Pair and won a NC. I think Reed could make more money at UK than in the NBA next season too.

What a great damned weekend! College buddies in from all over the US for a reunion, Larry Redmon private show, several great meals, Keeneland, and capped it off with the fanbase getting their seat at the table back with UK basketball!

- Gotta admit- seeing the Delt crew pics/video on the internet over the weekend made me pretty sad I never got a bid.

- Crew’s lassies looked neither stressed nor angry, too. 🔥

- Cal’s well known for being thinskinned. Have to think this is hitting him hard.

- Everything has been so weird in our program the previous few years that I have no clue who follows Cal to Arkansas. You even heard stuff about DJ not being happy. I would bet on Knox and JQ.

- Very curious to see how Pope builds his roster - the mix of high school/transfers, type of player, etc. BYU limits you more than any big school in the country.

Randominiums:

- For my first set of randoms in the New Era, I'm going to keep it mid. I don't want to peak too early. Gonna set a low bar!

- Cal came to this program at the perfect time, and then left at the perfect time. He injected arrogance and swagger when we most needed it; then left at the perfect time so we could come together as one to put back together what he burned to the ground.

- To quote the Iron Sheik, Pitino just needed a good, old country-style humbling. He has learned some humility and realizes his fingerprints are indirectly back on this program.

- Is there a bigger paradox in dining out than Mexican food right to your table in the restaurant vs. taking it out and eating it at your house? I mean, they put it in those tinfoil pans with the cardboard top, it gets all damp and steamy, the bag of chips becomes a greasy mess, and the cheese dip begins to harden on the styrofoam bowl. It's disgusting. But if you eat that shit right in the restaurant, you'll gnaw someone's arm off if they try to take anything off your plate.

- The eagle in the Anheiser-Busch logo, Yeunglein logo, and Apollo High School all look the same to me.

- You know me. I've never been one to complain about the weather but I have faced a constant 15-25 mph wind for every minute I've been outside since March 3rd.

- The one thing I'm learning about the Masters and Augusta is that you're not truly white until you've stepped foot on there in some capacity. It's like the Cracker's Rite of Passage.

- Time to put Dave Matthews Band, ma$e, Bush's 16 Stone, Outkast, Rusted Root, and Pearl Jam into the Playlist. The 90s are back bay-bay!

  • One of my biggest "what if's" is what if Shep redshirted in 95 or 96 instead of 97. Three in a row?
  • Wouldn't Reed's best move be to declare, go to draft camps, and then make a decision from that? I know he loves UK and all, but it would also give him the most leverage possible from an NIL perspective. "Gee whiz Joe Craft and @bradyjames, I sure do love UK but hearing they're gonna pay me $7M a year next year? What can you do to make it worth my while to stay?"
  • The NCAA has to fix the portal. Basically players are realizing they are unrestricted free agents every year. It would be stupid to not enter the portal. But it would be better for player and school alike to figure out how to do multiyear contracts.
  • I will never be good with Cal until he apologizes for putting intentionally putting the school's best interests last. It's an almost unforgivable sin in my opinion.

Alright i’m going to ask a stupid question and make a dirty confession.

I tuned out UK basketball for a couple of years between COVID and not being able to draw any connection to players who couldn’t win, didn’t want to stay, and didn’t like playing together.

What happened with Shaedon Sharpe? I should know because he is from my hometown but the narrative up here was ineligible.

Yeah. It’s gonna become standard procedure for everyone to “enter the portal” in its current form, and it’s already getting close.

You have starters, breakout stars on Final 4 teams, and everyone in between doing it. It’s literally just a market check, and even if they fully intend on staying put it immediately bolsters their value for retention assuming they’re wanted.

Given the rules, it’s hard to blame them. Coaches do it all the time to get more $. But man I really hate it - needs a solution pronto.

Sitting out a year prevented the ridiculousness, but I don't ever see it coming back.

I sort of like Wayne's idea of multi-year contracts between athletes and schools, but I don't think that can happen unless schools are considered their employers.
