I love Owen’s game and obvious strength, but in the NBA he is an undersized wing. I have no fear of him going pro as a 2nd round pick/G leaguer vs staying here and getting a couple hundred thousand while playing for F4’s.
The part of Pope I love was a fast break where Oweh tried to behind the back to Garrison that was turned over and the camera shot to Pope who was just watching with a look like huh that’s one way to run, but he didn’t pull anyone immediately.

The guys making mistakes and not getting immediately yanked, coach going soastic was very noticeable tonight among other things.
What's promising is that our guys are making mistakes in the midst of hustling or trying to execute the gameplan. These guys aren't top 20 freshmen trying to get drafted in 6 months, they're trying to win a damn ball game.

That was just…. Fun. It no longer felt like a chore. The players were pumped. No maniac yelling GOOOOOOOOOOOO. No stupid mid range jumpers and shot clock running down to 5 as a freshman has the ball 22 feet out.
And the crowd was actually into it, for a Rupp November crowd on a week night.

my 13yo opened the basketball season at the same time as the cats tonight so I had to check in at halftime. I guess I had battered fan syndrome bc I was shocked to see us with a 20 point lead and 46 points. Would’ve been 34-27 Wright State in an alternate universe.

Man, Butler was definitely the most important addition that Pope went out and got for this team, what a gamer. My biggest worry this yr is him having to sit early for foul trouble against some of the better backcourts we’ll play.

- I know, who cares about womens basketballsucka, but still....Kenny Brooks got a raw deal, with his first game at the newly-renovated Memorial taking place on a Monday afternoon at 5, on the same night the men open down at Rupp. I know TV dictates everything, but Mitch should have put his foot down on that one. Ridiculous.
- I have no idea what to make of Gonzaga/Baylor. By the time I turned it on, it was well out of hand. Not sure which team that result speaks more to....but wow.
- Studied The Athletic's top 25, which does a nice job breaking down each team, and man...it just seems like, on paper, it's Bama, then Gonzaga and Houston, and then everybody else. I think we're just as good as 4 through 25. Every single one of those teams has major warts, imo.
- Bought my TCP basketball yearbook last night. Used to buy 3-4 different preview mags, just down to one, now. Even as jaded as I got during the Cal years, grabbing one of those off the shelves was still a great feeling.
- 24 years ago, I was nervous about the presidential election results, so my wife and I went to go see a movie ("Legend of Bagger Vance", which sucked) and then came home and went to bed so that we could wake up the next morning and find out who the new president would be. No anxiety over dumbass lineup changes and floppy/horns. Just relentless attacking. They press out and we back door them to death.
-I love Big AL (Ansley Almonor). What a player. Big body like that will come in handy during the meat of SEC.
-Williams, he's showing way more than I expected. Dude isn't stiff at all. Maybe even a little too confident in his ability to drive. He keyed the break several times.

On tv, the crowd seemed WAY more hype than normal, particularly for an opener against a mid-major opponent. Just really shows you how starved the BBN has been for a legitimately fun team (and coach!!!) that's easy to root for.
I think I read that we had 30 assists for the first or second time in the past 15 years. That’s telling.
Loved seeing him mix it up in the paint last night. More versatile than I thought.
That guy was basically an afterthought in the transfer portal and, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why.
Finished a deadline early yesterday and made the last minute decision to head up from BG. Picked up 4 decent uppers (row c, sideline) for face.
Walked in next to Malachi Moreno. 7' is taaaaallllll (breaking news, I know).
My 7 y/o has been before, but this was the first time he was actually into the game. Awesome to see. He was exhausted and alternating between leaning over to tell me he's tired, putting his head on my shoulder, and jumping up and down screaming LETS GOOOOO, chanting C-A-T-S, etc.
Speaking of GOOOOO, we got rid of the coach that screams it and now the team does it. It was just so damn refreshing to see a team that you know is going to play hard on every offensive and defensive possession. And they know the coach trusts them and will let them play through mistakes as long as they're giving effort. They're experienced, smart, skilled, enabled and encouraged. Love every bit of it.
Butler is really, really good. Missed two bunnies and was still amazing around the rim for a PG.
Best play of the game was Krissa passing up a layup to deliver a no look to Brea, who let go of the shot and turned to the crowd to celebrate well before it went in. The Leach highlights didn't really catch it all, not sure if the TV broadcast did. EDIT: Just checked social media, and it did. lol
Oweh is a straight up stud. Does he have a flaw? Quick, athletic, excellent defender, shoots well, amazing in transition, can slash and finish, but also lets the game come to him. Nothing is forced. I don't think any of us knew that's what we were getting. If he stays another year, that back court is gonna be TUFF.
Three games in and I don't think we've been called for a walk, double dribble, stepping on the sideline, or a charge.
Negatives: Robinson's handles are a bit shaky. I'm nervous when he decides to drive. Chandler needs a lil time. He's a traffic cone on defense. Rupp soft serve is mid.

Of course, I'm loving the offense but it's also nice to see team defense of the P&R that doesn't include mass panic and confusion.
Used to live by that thing. Only way to see the top recruits. Kentucky High School info. Kentucky Small college info. Stuff on all of our opponents. Wore it out
