It is incredible how one sided many contracts are these days. Do a crappy job? Doesn’t matter, still get paid a golden parachute on your way out. Especially with sports, I will never understand why owners, GM’s, AD’s, etc allowed agents to fleece them by not adding clearly defined benchmarks that must be met or no additional money is owed to the coach when they are fired. UK is getting robbed by several of its coaches right now. Stoops and Cal are making around $20M annually between them. That is very hard to comprehend. Mitch is supposed to be this HOF like AD but the way he gives out bad contracts I cannot imagine how bad other AD’s really are.

He is not an idiot. He knows basketball. If he doesn’t honestly want to do this then take the option that locks you in to 40M instead of 30M and let someone who cares handle the coaching.

I don’t mean to be a know it all, but when you saw USC slow both of these teams down and made them execute and neither could do it you have to consider playing them in a slower paced game. You have to.

When they are destroying you at the rim when Ugo is out then you have to play him more than 18 minutes.

If Theiro is hurt and he is, then see if Burks can help on Knecht who honestly didn’t play good and Edwards did good against. Which would allow another player the size we need to cover James who was having the best night of his career.

Switch up to a zone to change the pace, and yes I know he won’t, but he should! He should have cut to a 3/4 court press that drops back to a 2-3 if for nothing else to slow them down and switch it up.

That flat man defense is so easily manipulated to get any matchup you want and they are veteran and coached well so that’s exactly what they did.

Both OOB Knecht dunks were back picks that the switcher didn’t recognize leaving him open under the basket due to weak man to man.


It just doesn’t make sense how a damn basketball coach at this level doesn’t adjust. Literally everyone else does. Does that make them better coaches? No, but yes!

If what you team is doing doesn’t work then why are you so against something else you think won’t work? Seriously!

And it’s in that thought where I think Cal is doing exactly what he wants as he is being second guessed by smart fan and is just that damn petty that he is showing us what we want isn’t going to work!

That’s what has me furious! Well that and the idea that we can’t fire him and I know we won’t.

I just glanced through the contract so this is absolutely not legal analysis. The Special Assistant to the AD / University Representative option that allows Calipari to "earn" one million per year (it is actually $950,000 but whatever) contains specific job duties. I didn't see anything that specifically states Calipari can't take other jobs (and I didn't look that hard) but UK would probably pretty easily win a legal battle on that because it is strongly implied that Calipari couldn't do the duties as the University Representative while also working for another university in any competitive type role.

Here's the deal. I've settled down some and I know my thoughts and opinions don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. I'm just on here venting so I don't drive my family crazy. If I'm on here, I'm not breaking things or yelling things or scaring the dog. I absolutely have in-game redass and I've been embarrassed by it before. But today, as I scroll back through my (sober) anger last night, I feel more of a sense of catharsis than regret or embarrassment.

I will say, I still have some sense of optimism (although that is waning) - this team has some dudes out there that can fill it up and they have pretty good basketball IQ. They can play. And they are dangerous if they are hot.

Cal just needs to get out of their way. Motivate them. Keep them close, together. Push them to play as hard as they can. That works for the benefit of everyone. Let the players and Ulis take care of the basketball product on the floor. John can motivate and push and network and all of that other bullshit. Play up everyone's strengths, including our coach's.

Here is what pisses me off, though: Tennessee is a better program and has been since 2020. Alabama is a more successful (NOW) program. You could argue that Auburn is as well. Arkansas has had a couple of exciting postseasons capped off by their little jockey dancing shirtless on top of a scorer's table. Yippee.

Marcus throw in South Caroline as well. They manhandled us last week and have had recent success against us. Oh, they have made a Final Four more recently as well.

I mean, what is going on? Our program is being held hostage by something. There's no strategy. There is no identity (other than it's Cal's NBA dream factory or something). They don't seem to scout. They don't seem to prep for games or style - just work on that individual skill-set for the draft, brother. It's sad and disappointing.

Meanwhile, these other teams are taking OUR fish. OUR soul. It's defeating and makes me strongly consider apathy which is a healthier choice. The state of the program is in disarray and it's about to lose the majority of the fan base because there has never been a bigger divide between team/staff and its fans. It needs major repair and rehabilitation.

It started several years ago, and I guess the old guard aren't crazy about it, but it would seem, if you can master it, it's quite the advantage. From what I've seen, the only difference is that you're using your off hand, rather than your thumb, to support the ball. Who knows.
