I think there’s more talk about the outrage re: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce than there is actual outrage, but that’s the world we live in.

I’m in a facebook group that a friend of mine invited me to. It’s a super lib group that has been 100% consumed the last 3 weeks with obsessing over Taylor Swift and shoving it in all these stupid Maga loving faces or whatever. It’s all day, every day memes and nonsense and anointing TayTay as their self appointed progressive Biden loving Democratic hero.

Just proof that the online world is REALLY bizarre. In real life, virtually *nobody* cares about this s***.

I don’t see a lot of draft stock on this team:

DJ: not a great outside shooter and can’t make a layup with his right
Shep: can’t play D
Dillingham: too small
Bradshaw: not athletic enough
Edwards: Not D1 talent
Big Z: plays 3 min a game
Mitchell: not big enough
Ugo: maybe

* We are extremely bad at on the ball defense. It’s not happenstance we give up so many open 3’s. We can’t contain dribble penetration and are constantly forced to help.
What infuriates me about Cal is his stubborn inflexibility to adapt to the pieces he has.

We don't have to be defensive juggernauts. All this icing ball-screens bullshit should be stuck on a shelf. Pack the lane, keep our heels on the 3pt line, and make teams hit contested jumpers. We can live with teams hitting 3s in the 35-45% range. We can't live with giving up 3s and straight-line drives leading to lay-ups because we're getting too f*cking fancy on defense.

- I always thought Taylor Swift was a pretty vanilla character. I mean I understand overexposure and not liking her music but was surprised to find out she was controversial.

- Got into it with one of my best friends last night on an in-game text threads. Things got personal. Sorry again @B.B.d.K.

- This SHOULD be one of those nice “March preview” weather days that gives me an extry hop in my step and start thinking about my March hype playlist and reliving Madness glory. Instead I’m pissed off and mad at my favorite player Shep. Thanks, Cal.

- Shep’s D brings him back for another year. He’s savvy and opportunistic like a fox but NBA teams would feast on him.

- Dilly won’t be a star but he could be a really good player.

- Wagner should be a really good 3-4 year guard who keeps getting better and is eventually a solid Brunson-lite pro. Won’t happen.

- I can’t see any of our bigs in the pros next year.

- I don’t know how but I think we win Saturday and that will create more of demand to have won last night. Beating UT would likely send us into a 4 game win streak headed into that game with Auburn.

- Apparently Wagner/Edwards are both possibly going to miss Saturday too? What is wrong with them? Honest answers only.

- I understand the fun exercise of thinking about Cal’s replacement, but business wise it isn’t happening, period. Anyone that thinks it should or we’d be better off and not realizing what that means in context is fooling themselves. Nothing he doesn’t do is worth a 40M buyout just to sign someone else in the same price range or slight discount.

- Prices to Stretch Zone are too high for me to pay regularly, but today’s demo stretch was really good and helped a lot. However even those dudes suggested physical therapy.

I still think we're fine. I rather struggle now than in late February, early March. We have a lot to iron out and improve upon, but I've seen enough to give me hope that will happen. All losses suck, but they can make a team better if they're willing to learn from it. This is a good group of kids who are very coachable despite the recent struggles. Stick with 'em!

When I bought my house in 16 the central heat/air unit was already old and starting to show signs that it was time for a new one. I limped it along for 6 more years, doing repairs here and there, paying crazy utility bills, etc. because it was still “doing the job”Last spring I finally broke down and put in a new unit. I really didn’t like cutting that initial check but in the last 12 months it has already paid dividends and in just a year or two more it will have paid for itself.

Take from that what you will but sometimes you just have to stop the bleeding and write a check.

-Is Wayne back???? YAYYYYYYY

- Once again, Curb your enthusiasm.

- Forget the lineups, forget the "injuries", forget the lack of defensive adjustments. Forget that for a second.

How about calling one of your 2 timeouts with 15 seconds to go in regulation and running a play to make sure one of your great free throw shooters get the ball? Since everybody in Rupp, and their pet dog at home knew Florida would immediately foul. You got two of them, you really couldn't run a play to make sure Shep or Reeves get the inbounds?

Hall of fame recruiter, indeed. Hall of fame coach? My ass.

What standard are some of you holding the program to?

Wake up.

Title contending teams at Kentucky do not lose to UNCW at home or have 2 really bad conference losses (one at home) to unranked teams before the calendar slips to February.

We haven’t been to the SEC Championship game since 2018. We are going to be 9 years without being a 1 seed or playing in a Final Four after this season.

I guess some of y’all are ok with mediocrity but this program historically has never accepted anything close to mediocrity and the fans have demanded excellence and that’s the main reason there’s 8 banners hanging by 5 different coaches.

I’m just a Bennie but seems like it would have maybe been worth a shot to stick Thiero on the Clayton kid down the stretch some. With his height advantage and just have him hound the hell out of the dude and deny the ball/disrupt his shots.

Last night was actually one hell of a basketball game. We just frickin blew it. We are one free throw or well-timed foul away from all being hyped up and ready for March. We were going to overreact to that game no matter who won.

We've basically been a bubble to top 25 team for the better part of a decade. For a few around here that's acceptable. For me it's f*cking ridiculous. I like this group of kids. I love the offensive style of play. Game management last night was same old BS Cal. We've fired(retired) coaches for much less than this.

-Get up 10 on a nice little run. Immediately go to a dumbass lineup, give up 5 unanswered to close the half, rather than stick with the heater and push it out to 15.
-No thought of fouling up 3 even though we only had 6 fouls. So at worse they're shooting 1 and 1.
-Why was Shep inbounding the ball when we knew they'd foul? Set up a play to get him to the line.
-Why not run them off the line rather than continue to let them bomb away?
-Maybe switch Shep to a different guy?

Little plays, throughout the entire game, make a difference. You can't give up dumb shit early in the game and expect to get away with it. We had them on the ropes and in less than 2 minutes they had a lead.

It's honestly exhausting.

Yes. But dude was struggling to walk by OT.

At least he sacked-up and tried to play through the pain. Not a bitch like other players who shall not be named.

Final Four or GTFO. This crap is exhausting and so beneath this program that it hurts. For the love of God Cal, please agree to a reasonable buyout and spare us anymore misery.

- I can live with giving up 3s. For most teams, 3 point defense is mostly explainable by variance/luck. We are not an excellent defensive team so sometimes teams are going to shoot well against us and at other times they aren’t.

What isn’t tenable are the amount of easy lay ups we give up off straight line drives after one or two passes. It is so simple for any decent college basketball player to get to their spot, if not get all the way to the rim. It’s the combination of these things that make us really poor defensively.

- For this^ reason, I was going to be upset last night even if we won that game. Trading baskets down the stretch with Florida at home is asking to get beat.

- Similarly, I’m okay with Sheppard’s defense on the whole. He’s a gambler. He gets burned sometimes, but the marginal advantage you get from turning a defensive possession into a run out on the other end is probably worth giving up a few open looks. A good defensive system would optimize his chances for live ball turnovers while minimizing the risk - like maybe the weak side guard should cover his cutting man while he tries to steal an entry pass.

What bothers me more with him are his turnovers. He’s caught between not doing enough and doing too much sometimes.

- Sheppard nor I guess anybody else on the roster can stay in front of a driving perimeter player. Why is this? Are they not athletic or savvy enough? I don’t think so. It must be something else. Why have we sucked on defense the last 3 years?

- Florida was much better coached than we were. If they had a matchup advantage, they spammed it. Bradshaw and Z were abused in PnR in limited time. They were just driving it right at Dillingham and Sheppard.

- Ugo is and has been a better option at the 5 than Bradshaw and Z, neither of whom can really play at this level IMO. But we can’t defend even with him. I don’t know why we don’t get 5-10 minutes of small ball with Mitchell at the 5 every game.

- I’m wasting my time thinking about this, of course. We have probably our best roster in 6-7 seasons and we lost at home to Florida with 3 of our guards and Ugo going absolutely off. What you see is what we’re getting.

Anyone have a video or gif or whatever from last night at the end of OT? They were showing Cal “coaching” and the fans were leaving behind him. Some of the looks the faithful were shooting him as they walked out made me uncomfortable… and those are the lower level elite navel gazer fans!

The issue with thinking the best we can do is Cal is also thinking that the best we can do, as Anth said, is be a bubble team with limited to no success in tournament play. The only point I could see is that we shouldn't trust Mitch to make the hire, but I'd rather cross that bridge than get dick kicked every year.

It's Kentucky and Cal isn't exactly Saban.

The issue for moving on from Cal, is that there is no glaring obvious replacement.

Oh bullshit. There’s not a Calipari but there are some damn good coaches out there- some on the come up and some with a championship in their pocket.

Arizona the university is broke with no conference. Think we couldn’t get Tommy Lloyd? Oats is a MFer- think he wouldn’t want this challenge? Those are two up-and-comers right there.
